Obama team to Texas Democrats: It’s time to start attacking Rick Perry

posted at 8:45 pm on August 24, 2011 by Allahpundit

Forget today’s Gallup poll. If you want a solid sign that Perry’s achieved at least parity with Romney, here it is.

“Your feedback will help hold him accountable on the campaign trail, inspire fellow Texans to get involved, and introduce his record — his actual record — to voters across the country,” Hector Nieto, the campaign’s Texas director, told Texas supporters by email blast today. “Your words will remind him that even as he runs, he won’t be able to hide — a lesson he apparently hadn’t learned as recently as last week. That’s when his campaign explained that the positions he took in the book he wrote just nine months ago, like saying that Social Security is unconstitutional and `a crumbling monument to the failure of the New Deal,’ no longer represent his views.

“But what other Americans are just starting to learn about — and, frankly, reject — Texans have dealt with for more than a decade. It’s up to us to make sure he doesn’t get to run away from the truth.”

Nieto’s email says hundreds of Texans have already shared their dim views on Perry, directing critics to an online form where they can suggest their own favorite “failed policies” for which he should be held accountable.

Yes, they really do have an online form just for this on Obama’s campaign site. I’m intrigued by the fact that they’re not content to rely on standard oppo research in this case but want man-on-the-street grumbling from Texas liberals instead. Is that because they’re deeply (and understandably) worried about voters being dazzled by Texas’s record on jobs and think that only “eyewitness testimony” from the locals disputing it will be effective? Or is it because Perry has a huge, obvious populist advantage over President Spock such that only fellow salt-of-the-earth southerners might be able to counter it? The “Rick Perry is the liberal antichrist” message will only go so far; to reach undecided voters, they need to start casting doubt on his heartland authenticity too. Rank-and-file Texas Democrats can help.

Speaking of cultural contrasts, here’s a photo that was tweeted today by David Limbaugh. It’s clever, but (a) there’s already an obvious liberal counterattack and (b) it’s easier to get traction with the “noble serviceman versus slacker dandy” comparison if the slacker dandy in question didn’t give the order to shoot Osama Bin Laden in the face.

Obama team to Texas Democrats: It’s time to start attacking Rick Perry

Too late. Some in his own party already left the starting line.

rukiddingme on August 24, 2011 at 11:58 PM

Back in the summer of 2007 and into 2008 was there this much bickering over the GOP nominee? Who were the big candidates at the time that people argued over. Nikkia2112 on August 24, 2011 at 10:32 PM

It’s about average, I guess. Most of the venom gets sprayed during primary season because people like having a choice and they enjoy beating each other up. After the convention, there isn’t really a choice anymore.

Dear David Alexrod, Beotch you don’t know me, come get some.

Sincerely, Governor James Richard Perry :)

Dr Evil on August 25, 2011 at 12:32 AM

These Obamabots have no scruples whatsoever.

Dear sycophant and his minions are nothing more than a bunch of farkin’ liars.

I hope that Perry does the Toby Keith thingy and puts a boot in their a*s.

ORrighty on August 25, 2011 at 1:07 AM

Oh, yeah, this sounds like a plan that just can’t miss! Because Texas Democrats have been soooo effective at beating Rick Perry!

Obama can at least go out with an unblemished record: every single idea he’s had is stupid.

Adjoran on August 25, 2011 at 1:30 AM

HAHA! OK good luck with that Dims. Perry won 3 elections. So whatever the TX Dims have been doing is reeeaaally effective.

Before you start labeling people “cultists,” you might first consider something a real Messiah said, “do to others as you would have them do to you.”

He is God. He was perfect. He IS perfect
I am not.

annoyinglittletwerp on August 24, 2011 at 10:57 PM

My dear, that was a commandment from Christ, not a request.

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:27-31.

I get the impression you’re not listening to Him.

theotherone on August 25, 2011 at 2:01 AM

Psst, Hector. Just call Governor Perry a racist. That always work.

The teaser about the “obvious liberal counterattack” piqued my interest, so I clicked. It led me to a side-by-side of Rick Perry, in uniform next to a jet and GW Bush in a similar pose. As liberal counterattacks go, how in hell was that anything but an epic fail? I guess if you hate Bush and want to suggest that Perry is more of the same…but most Americans don’t hate Bush. I don’t care to see him or vote for another Bush, ever, but I certainly don’t hate him and this pictures of both of these men as former military is hardly damning. Crap, man, is the liberals disgust at our military so strong that they think everyone has the same warped visceral reaction?

SKYFOX on August 25, 2011 at 6:27 AM

… if the slacker dandy in question didn’t give the order to shoot Osama Bin Laden in the face.

You’re assuming, of course, that the slacker dandy in question was the one who actually gave the order.

SagebrushPuppet on August 25, 2011 at 7:45 AM

Start with the interviews while running with McCain.

Anton on August 24, 2011 at 10:18 PM

Start, and end. When and if Perry ever gets a few interviews under his belt, we can compare. Until then, not really.

I’m sure all the loud mouth leftist parasites in the state will scream and slobber but it won’t work in Texas.

Obama team to Texas Democrats: It’s time to start attacking Rick Perry

Start? First they would have to stop-to start over. It’s not like this isn’t an ongoing occurrence. What does Axelrod want them to do, head him off at the pass LOL!

Hey as long as they are critiquing Perry’s book “Fed Up”. The Republicans in Texas, need to dust off Obama’s memoirs “Dreams of My Atheist Communist Father”. Because Texans just love an American success story/

Obama team to Texas Democrats: It’s time to start attacking Rick Perry

The only thing new about this is calling Perry by name. Obama and the democrats have been at war against Texas all year. Even some Texas dems have noticed this.

The shuttle snub may not be so big, but the EPA attack on Texas industry and power generation will be big, especially when it come time to close those plants.

Naturally. A huge part of the dem’s political strategy is to get as many people as possible into their databases.

I would just like to know how many of my tax dollars are being used by this administration to pay for opposition research on my governor, because I guarantee you, it is happening.

Vashta.Nerada on August 25, 2011 at 10:10 AM

They better be a little careful. Vetting Perry invites vetting Obama since that was never done in ’08. With that AND his record, Obama is all patty and no cow.

Yep.

This is why liberlism is a mental disease. They throw up at the site of a man in uniform. But they want to decriminalize pedophilia.

Vashta.Nerada on August 25, 2011 at 10:24 AM

Bush and Perry in their flight suits doesn’t seem much of a “counter attack” and having given the order to shoot bin Laden will get the president only limited traction. After all, what president wouldn’t have given that kill order and, anyway, a year from now, people will be more interested in knowing what he’s done for, or to, them lately.

Yeah, most live in a place we call “The Peoples Republic of Austin” or sometimes “Austin: Texas without Texans!”

CableDude on August 25, 2011 at 11:21 AM

Are these the same TX Democrats who, 20 years ago, tried to make the state Blue?

The ones that then proceeded to lose members, lose seats, lose power all in chasing identity politics and more spending ad nauseum? Because, if it is, I hope they replicate their ‘success’ Nation-wide!!!

It is supposed to be autographed, “Adios MoFo”.

Something about when he said that made me love Rick Perry, and I am from Texas and not a big fan of his really.

Perry is just a true politician. He is conservative where it counts though. So although he may not be my first choice, I won’t have a problem voting for him next November.

Rick might have gotten a low grade in AI or cow genetics but at least he has grades from a real college to show.
Can not wait for the day that some obot brings up grades and Rick says “does bumma even have a transcript”maybe save that for a debate or a heckler.

Grades will be off limits this go round. Obambi is not stupid enough to make it an issue, Is he?

“After reading literally thousands of comments, it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall in hopes that some will stick and they can influence someone, anyone, to become anti-Perry too.”

Oh my God, he’s been to Hot Air!

I get tickled every time I imagine the libs attempting to approach Perry, or picture them sneaking around without getting noticed.
Texas is a heavily armed state and we don’t take well to folks trespassing, not to mention the fact that Governor Perry himself is armed.
Castle Doctrine rules!

Wouldn’t that be choice, if, in a debate between Perry and Obama, Perry asked Obama why his academic transcripts were withheld from the public? If Obama tried to use the excuse, “because I’m President” or something related to that, pin him down and ask why they were withheld while Obama was NOT President?
