Shock Poll: Obama Approval Rating 45%, Disapproval 49%—in New York
posted at 1:25 pm on August 12, 2011 by Howard Portnoy
There are several states on the national electoral map that are, with rare exception, “gimmes” for Democratic candidates. Among them are California and New York.
Which makes the findings of the latest Quinnipiac University poll a “rare exception.” For the first time since President Obama took the oath of office, his disapproval rating among Empire State residents is higher than his approval rating. Of 1,640 registered voters queried in the survey, 45% said they approve of the job the president is doing, while 49% said they disapprove.
The findings represent a sharp turnaround from June, when Obama’s approval rating among New Yorkers was in very positive territory, 57% against 38%.
In the 2008 presidential election, Obama carried New York with 63% of the vote.
Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, is quoted by the New York Post as stating:
The debt-ceiling hullabaloo devastated Obama’s numbers even in true-blue New York. He just misses that magic 50 percent mark against a no-name Republican challenger.
Speaking of which, the poll contains some encouraging news for the president. He still outpaces a generic challenger in New York by 49% to 34%. By the same token, though the question of whether he deserves a second term, the split among voters is closer, with 48% answering affirmatively, 46% negatively.
A recent USA Today/Gallup poll revealed that more than half of Americans nationwide believe the president is not deserving of a second term, while 47% claim that he is.

That’s why we should absolutely not become complacent or take anything for granted.
And that’s even though another appeals court has just ruled that Obamacare’s individual mandate is unconstitutional.

I seriously am beginning to believe that it is entirely possible, however remote, that Obama may in fact be impeached. And the push for impeachment may very well come from his own party.
Obama is doing nothing at all for the good of America. Even Jimmy Carter did some things. Bill Clinton did several things for the good of our nation. Obama has done nothing. And as the days pass, he just keeps slashing and burning. From these new cafe standards to attacking family farms to embracing our enemies to trafficking guns into Mexico to ignoring court orders to revealing our allies secrets to Russia to destroying our economy all while vacationing and partying in front of us.
I guess you could say he did get OBL. But what else is there?
When I say impeachment, I know how foolish that sounds right now. But he’s got well over a year left to go and God only knows how much more he plans on destroying.
He just keeps pressing and pressing and pressing.

Boy, I wish. As an upstate NY’er, I think this poll reflects a feeling of betrayal by those on the left. Cuomo is taking on the unions, Obama appears only in NY to get money for his reelection. At some point the disgust with Democrat pols starts to show in the base.

I would be shocked to see these same numbers reflected by the electorate in Vermont.
pilamaye on August 12, 2011 at 1:42 PM
Reagan got 49, only losing Minnesota and DC. Perry would have to run the table, and I don’t see how IL, CA, or MA can afford to be seen opposing a democrat – they can’t remain states without bailout money.
Vashta.Nerada on August 12, 2011 at 1:42 PM
BIG
The 11th Circuit has ruled that the individual mandate in Obamacare is unconstitutional.
Schadenfreude on August 12, 2011 at 1:42 PM
And at the same time Gallup has a ‘poll’ showing the generic Dem is favorable to the Repub. I find the ‘Q’ poll credible because the lefties are as mad at Obama as the right wing is. Even Peggy Noonan admits, “NO ONE LOVES OBAMA”. Cutting to the chase: therefore, Gallup is obviously not a credible or creditable polling company and should never be linked or referred to again at HA.

CA will not vote for Perry, I can assure you of that non-result. There are too many ppl here who outwardly view TX as some awkward, redneck-laden, Republican land of oilmen and cattle ranchers. There are, however, some of us keeping this blue state purple who might vote for him. I’m not sure it would matter given the current push by CA legislature to abolish the Electoral College and cast all our votes for whomever wins the popular vote (I’m against that personally). All y’all might as well hope for ‘the big one’ so that CA drops into the Pacific and we can get back to some normalcy on the coast of NV/AZ ;)

0bama has other issues festering behind the scenes.
Operation Fast and Furious, which will certainly outdo Watergate, is still being investigated. This has an excellent chance of bringing down most, if not all, of the 0bama regime. It’s unfortunate Hot Air has dropped the ball on the coverage of this critical story – evidently there isn’t enough space after the all-important pushing gay marriage topics.
In the more “conspiracy” themed scandals, still no explanation of why he’s using a dead Connecticut man’s social security number.
There are many more, feel free to add your own. The blatant criminality of the 0bama regime will, in the end, cause it to destruct.

At this rate, Carter won’t be inviting Obama to any campaigns, rather than the other way around…
right2bright on August 12, 2011 at 2:37 PM
Little Bammie won’t be impeached by his own party, all they have to do is run someone against him in the primary. The slot is wide open and at this point there are many democratics that could run away with the nomination.
slickwillie2001 on August 12, 2011 at 2:39 PM
You got a guy here with phony BC after phony BC who is now Chief Exec.
Seriously, what do you think will come from Issa? I’m betting not much.
Lanceman on August 12, 2011 at 2:47 PM
The birth certificate issue is dead. But there is no credible explanation possible about why he has a dead Connecticut man’s social security number.
Note well how the MSM mocked “bithers”, but they dare not breath a word about 0bama’s SS#, not even to give it a cute nickname.
Rebar on August 12, 2011 at 2:53 PM
I just googled Operation FAst and Furious and there is nothing new to report. Congress is in recess or whatever recess is these days to prevent Obama from making recess appointments. Did Issa stay in DC to pursue the investigation?
piglet on August 12, 2011 at 2:56 PM
There’s this:
The 0bama regime is in full CYA mode, to the point of dishonoring the agent who was killed in the line of duty.
That’s a story worth covering, IMO.
Rebar on August 12, 2011 at 3:01 PM
Look. Nothing will come of Issa’s investigations. Just like the BC issue, the blacks would riot like crazy in every major city. Hell, we’re already getting there with the flash mobs. obama was the perfect storm at this point in history, and I for one am extremely doubtful we will ever recover.

From the story…
Kinda disgusting.

Being from NY, and having had dinner last night with a friend who lives in NY, and grew up in Queens, and who is black, I was blown away when she told me she was opening up to the Republican platform. Could really be something to this.
SuperBunny on August 12, 2011 at 3:30 PM
I had not heard or read a word about this, but your post caused me to look around and I couldn’t find a whole lot, but…
Supposedly private investigators queried the SS Admin and they were told that it’s really not unusual for someone, not from Connecticut, to have a Connecticut SSN. Curious. From what I’ve read so far, they didn’t say anything about recycling a SSN from someone who was born in 1890. Do they recycle SSN’s? What’s the likelihood you could end up with your own dead ancestor’s SSN? Creepy.
Extrafishy on August 12, 2011 at 3:43 PM
Well, I’m a New Yorker and I disapprove of Obama.
ernesto on August 12, 2011 at 3:44 PM
No. You number follows you into the grave.
For a Hawaiian resident to somehow be assigned a Connecticut number is beyond credibility. To be assigned a number that’s already been issued – impossible.

Interestingly, no one has published a poll since April (that I can find) on Obama’s approval rating in California.
Democratic Underground had a reference to a poll, cited by another website on 5 August (and apparently done last week), showing Obama’s approval down to 49% in California (!). But there’s no point in posting the link, because the link embedded in the DU form post didn’t work. The forum post suggested the poll was done by the Public Policy Institute (PPI) of California, but the PPIC website has no reference to it.
If there was such a poll, the outcome is certainly interesting, as is the apparent sequence of events in which it was made available for online reference, and then the PoliticalWire report on it removed.
J.E. Dyer on August 12, 2011 at 5:09 PM
yeah, ‘we don’t like his policies, evidently they don’t work, but hey, we will vote for him…’ typical NY idiocy and self-defeatism…not that California is any better when it comes to that, the only difference is that people here don’t even bother to actually admit his (or any Dem) policies have failed, so he’s winning by default…
jimver on August 12, 2011 at 7:10 PM
That’s probably a Survey USA poll done in 6/23. Obama at 48 approve to 47 disapprove. Interestingly, no one has published a poll since April (that I can find) on Obama’s approval rating in California.
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=fe0d0fc7-1aee-4216-8b36-542ae85615f1
PPIC’s latest numbers were done last month, July 2011. Obama was 52-42 approval. However, down to 48-47 approve among LIKELY voters.

Obama’s at 54% in the latest Field Poll in June and 52% with the latest USC/LAT poll done in July.

The Democrats in NY will vote the “D” ticket because it’s the Democrats that love those entitlement programs that keeps NY a blue State. I remember when Hillary was running for Senator and she promised 100,000 jobs for upstate NY. The voters bought it.
