Last choice was easy.

a capella on August 12, 2011 at 10:50 AM

I can’t believe it. Among the declareds, I found myself voting for Newt.

Please, let’s get some people to jump in. We need someone who can effectively go after Obama hammer and tong. Newt is the only one who pulled that off last night. That said, he’s welcome only to keep the frontrunner seat warm for someone who can win.

I dunno…I was taken aback a bit by seeing the list of declared candidates and picking one. I wouldn’t be excited by any of them. What a motley crew that is. I actually went with T-Paw on that.

JetBoy on August 12, 2011 at 10:53 AM

Rick Perry 7. Paul Ryan 6. The rest 4 or lower.

I’m looking forward to seeing a different line up of declared candidates next time.

I was teasing. The last question asks to choose between Palin and Perry, but offers only one circle to check,..that of Perry. I anticipate an onslaught of Palinbots, screaming for justice, in here at any moment.

Paul Ryan? Since when?

ElectricPhase on August 12, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Each declared candidate has significant weaknesses. I had a tough time picking even one, dispite my fervor for ABO. Palin and Perry have demonstrated superior performance as Governor, with notable results. So I look forward to both entering the race.

I had extended discussions on Perry with my colorful Texas relatives during my last visit. Each one was “meh” on him.
This was from every point on the political spectrum, from well-informed, salt-of the earth ranchers or good people, but thoroughly liberal retired teachers.
They used different actions of Perry to be cautious. None supported him for President. The only other point of agreement was that Texas needed rain.
As I was a guest, and my family was there, I did not bring up Palin at all.

No, I’m about equally divided. I could live with either one of them as President. Of course, I know less about Perry at present, but that is offset by the rabid nature of some Palin supporters. I don’t put much stock in any of these polls. It’s cheap entertainment.

The only thing I like about Newt is that unlike all the others, he offers booming criticism of Obama.

To be honest, the riots in Britain serve as a look into our future under a “fundamental transformation” of America by Obama. It’s this simple: Obama + British riots by a class created under Obama-like policies = Willie Horton 2012. Mix in a happy warrior to point that out and to offer a way back to American solutions, and you have a landslide.

NJ Red on August 12, 2011 at 11:13 AM

Worse, I accidentally put down Ron Paul…but at least he is truly the X factor…did I hear the Twilight theme song being played in the background each time he answered a question.
“Notice, you are at another debate, a debate where people don’t answer the questions they are asked, you notice a candidate muttering an answer, each answer talks about the middle east, you notice something strange, as he is yelling his answer, his hair mysteriously gets messy without being touched…you have entered the Twilight debates”
Ron Paul was scary…

It’s quite simple. Everyone knows Palin from 2008 for better or worse. Perry is mostly unknown so far. Until he’s gone through a couple of debates we don’t know enough to make a choice. So far his negatives seem to be unsubstantiated rumours and his positives are fairly good.

Pattosensei on August 12, 2011 at 11:19 AM

I think you meant Stache, and I gave him a 7.

No, I meant Ryan. Bolton is too one-dimensional for me. I really haven’t heard his views on anything domestic. And I think that that type of candidate needs to poo or get off the pot. Cain has many flaws, but I give him props for at least actually running for the job. Bolton seems to want to be drafted.

Frankly, I don’t even see him as a viable VP candidate at this point.

We need a worthwhile candidate. So far: NONE of the above.

Romney is a politician’s politician;
Newt needs to handle his OWN debt first;
Bachmann is on record wanting to get current vets disability AFTER they served their country;
Pawlenty came off as a woman hater;
and Cain was just “there” (sort of like voting present)

katablog.com on August 12, 2011 at 11:31 AM

Had to go with Newt. Pretty sure the declared candidate question will be easier next time.

sleepy-beans on August 12, 2011 at 11:33 AM

There are things I like about each of these people. The problem is that no single one of them has all that I am hoping for in our candidate.

We can’t rely on the challenger beating a worn out champion on points. We need our challenger to score a KO, otherwise the champ will win.

What a shame that at this point, with this obamanation as a prez, we haven’t yet found our challenger.

All the candidates missed a golden opportunity to talk to the American people last night when the question was asked about getting things done with a divided house. They should have told us that if the country does not elect enough republicans to the Senate that the country will continue it’s course to bankruptcy. And that they would work just as hard to get them elected. MB mentioned it, but, missed the mark. Everyone else just blew it.

Well for the declared I went with Santorum because of his debate performance and I can’t get the image of Newt on the couch with Pelosi out of my mind. I can’t stand how Romney stands there with that creepy smile that seems to say the GOP Beltway Elites will get this for me. Cain sounded off his game and quite frankly, he says stupid things. Bachmann anointed herself the TEA Party Queen in the most opportunistic ambitious way and it a big turn off and Pawlenty did madage to point out she has no accomishments. Pawlenty in return got damaged by Bachmann and just doesnt connect. Santorum did pretty well but I think he’s in there as a voice crying out in the wilderness that this country is morally in trouble.
