Audio: Al Gore screams about global-warming skeptics

posted at 9:00 pm on August 8, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Fox Nation. Four years ago, when he won the Nobel, 71 percent said they believed that carbon emissions were causing global warming. Four years later, after a crushing recession, Climategate, and an epic failure at Copenhagen, only 44 percent say they believe it. Meanwhile, 69 percent say it’s likely that global-warming scientists have falsified climate research. What you’re hearing here, in other words, is the voice of a man who’s very, very frustrated, not merely because the science is being questioned but because the dream of a global agreement to limit industrial growth isn’t a priority in a world frantic for economic growth of any sort, industrial or otherwise. To that end, if you missed it in June, read Walter Russell Mead’s three-part series (one, two, and three) on Gore’s green travails. Part one deals with the eternal “do as I say, not as I do” problem; part three tries to contextualize him within the tradition of southern liberalism. Part two gets to the heart of it:

The dream that the menace of global warming will cause humanity to overcome its ancient divisions and unite in a grand global coalition is sophomoric. Rising CO2 levels will not cause the world’s governments to accept and enforce international policing of the most intimate details of their economic lives. If the menace of nuclear war can’t create world government, the menace of global warming won’t do it either…

Mr. Gore’s work up to and including his latest Rolling Stone essay has taken a demagogic rather than intellectual approach. His method of arguing is to trumpet the science of climate change and to make ad hominem arguments against its opponents. The science is clear, it is settled, and the opposition against it is funded by people with an economic stake in denial. I am right about the science and my opponents are a bunch of evil opportunists in it only for the money…

The green movement’s core tactic is not to “hide the decline” or otherwise to cook the books of science. Its core tactic to cloak a comically absurd, impossibly complex and obviously impractical political program in the authority of science. Let anyone attack the cretinous and rickety construct of policies, trade-offs, offsets and bribes by which the greens plan to govern the world economy in the twenty first century, and they attack you as an anti-science bigot.

To argue with these people about science is to miss the core point. Even if the science is exactly as Mr. Gore claims, his policies are still useless.

Could be. Or maybe if he rants just loudly and long enough, with lots of personal derision towards those who question this scheme, the skeptics will start to see the light. No? Content warning.

Just for the record, as outstanding as Mead’s article on Gore was, the guy is a total 100% Greenie. The kind of Greenie who’s delighted American jobs are being shipping to China because the average Chinese workman has a smaller carbon footprint.

That kind of Greenie.

The last out and out communist to run for President was also fond of the word bulls**t.

Kind of also sums up Tom Harkin’s entire being.

MNHawk on August 9, 2011 at 7:26 AM

So he actually has the gall to say that his opponents use pseudo scientists?
Mr. Gore, you poor weak minded man, you have been challenged many times by scientists to debate, to a public debate to air your issues and have you explain your “facts”, yet you have never agreed to a debate. You hide behind a microphone and spout off your BS, but you and your brethren won’t debate the issue, won’t publicly be challenged.
You cower behind articles and microphones, and spew false facts…not false? Then bring them to a debate and lets see the what you got, besides your BS.

That kind of Greenie.

I’m not sure what value is to be derived from moving away from the Gore story toward an analysis of Mead’s personal politics, especially with respect to AGW and Greeny-ism. Is this just knee-jerk conservative caution about celebrating the enemy of your enemy?

Whatever the animating rationale is, I think we can still enjoy the evisceration of Gore in Mead’s piece. Let’s face it — had Ed Begley, Jr. written the piece, you’d be laughing out loud and cheering him as the well-meaning and principled – if somewhat insane and misguided – environmentalist, right?

Because that’s all Mead is really saying: Gore is a fraud and a poseur, and has made hundreds of millions of dollars by posing as an environmentalist while devouring endangered fishes, flying alone in private jets, heating and cooling 50,000 square feet of home(s) that no one occupies, and puttering around on his monstrous boat.

For my part, I get the added schadenfreude buzz of watching Gore continue his descent into madness, somehow torturing his idiot son into drug fueled dangerous behavior, divorcing his wife of many years, etc., none of which bothers the Greenie knuckleheads — and which Mead also acknowledges.

I can’t imagine why Tipper dumped him.

katy the mean old lady on August 8, 2011 at 9:12 PM

I know! Let’s try to think this through:

- Stay with fat, sweaty, ugly, angry, disheveled, and increasingly insane husband who travels constantly but still tells you what you can and cannot do when he’s gone, or

- Walk away with $100 million of his ill-gotten money, live in a 10,000 square foot Malibu oceanfront mansion, have Pablo bring you drinks of fruit juice and Rum, grilled shrimp, and $200 bottles of Pinot Noir, play a lot of tennis, take care of the grandkids (with the assistance of assistants), and get massages and whatnot from Guillermo every afternoon by the pool.

I just don’t know.

This isn’t just frustration … it’s RAGE.

It’s the expressed rage of a man who is losing his grip on his own livelihood.

“Climate Change” is Gore’s bread and butter. It was supposed to make him one of the richest men on earth. It was supposed to get him laid now that Tipper has divorced him. It was supposed to bring him all the glory and political power that his mediocre political career failed to bring him.

What you’re REALLY looking at here – is a man in meltdown mode – who risked it all for a big payoff – but was discovered to be a con-man in the flesh.

Pitty the fall of AlGore.

The dream that the menace of global warming will cause humanity to overcome its ancient divisions and unite in a grand global coalition is sophomoric. Rising CO2 levels will not cause the world’s governments to accept and enforce international policing of the most intimate details of their economic lives.

China emits more CO2 than we do, and is building coal-fired power plants (less efficient than ours) at the rate of one per WEEK. China has four times our population, and owns a sizeable fraction of our national debt. Does anyone seriously think we can tell the Chinese what they shouldn’t do, and they will obey us? How well did that work at Tienanmen Square?

Or will the Chinese just let the US and Europe shoot themselves in the foot with useless CO2 emission limits, then steal our jobs with cheaper electricity? Now THAT seems much more likely…

Steve Z on August 9, 2011 at 10:29 AM

There is just something disturbing about his dismissal of all doubt and criticism. I really don’t know what to say about it.

Seems that trying to make the science fit the politics is not working, and somebody is getting testy.

For the record, Solar Cycle 23 may be the start of a Little Ice Age event (It’s got the same look as the first part of the Maunder Minimum).

Nethicus on August 9, 2011 at 10:46 AM

If the envirowacko’s want to really convince us that global warming is real, they need to do the following:

1. Set the example and reduce their carbon footprints.

2. Set the example and live as they would have us live.

3. Spend their millions to replace their SUVs, Corporate Jets, and 5,000+ sq ft homes with energy efficient, green replacements.

4. Tell the truth about the environment. Stop falsifying the research and let the facts speak for themselves. Stop reciting the scare tactic rhetoric and speak the truth.

Since we all know they are incapable/unwilling to do the above, just STFU and GTFO of the United States.

I happened to catch an ABC News story last week about the heat wave which we’re currently suffering through here in Texas, and of course they had some “expert”, a lady, who started off with some BS about “climate change”, and it’s causing more temperature extremes. Gee, I thought it was supposed to cause our temps to moderate (we’d become more tropical). Of course that doesn’t explain the drought and the heat waves we had from 1951 through 1956.

Of course. Little Bammie’s war on coal will also allow China to buy cheaper coal to fuel their economy.

BobOfTexas on August 9, 2011 at 12:46 PM

(It’s got the same look as the first part of the Maunder Minimum).

Um, no. . . it doesn’t. WE GUESS that this might be what the beginning of Maunder looked like, but jumping to the conclusion that we’re heading for another minimum on the scale of Maunder is just as faulty as propping up the hockey stick.

That being said. I do not disagree, that we are moving into a period of low sun activity. Let’s just not start up with the global cooling hysteria just yet. I had enough of that in the 70′s thank you.

The VERY SIMPLE fact is that we know absolutely jack sh*t about what makes the climate turn on the whole. We know very little about how the macro-climates individual elements affect the whole.

If you’re the type who want to take from others without doing any real work, you start up Chicken Little BS like Gore has.

The climate IS changing. If you think the area around Giza was a bone dry desert when they built the Pyramids, you’re delusional.

If you think that Greenland has always been covered with ice and any melting of the Greenland ice cap (which is growing now shrinking) is a global catastrophe, you’re so stupid that there is really no point to listen to you.

That’s how I view Al Gore.

Jason Coleman on August 9, 2011 at 1:05 PM

Al Gore needs to watch the season 1 finale of Penn & Teller’s Bullsh*t! about the farce that is global warming.
