Geithner is not going anywhere

posted at 4:30 pm on August 7, 2011 by Tina Korbe

The National Journal reports that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner doesn’t plan to step down, despite numerous voices urging him to do so:

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has told President Obama that he will stay at his current job, the agency announced on Sunday afternoon, the Associated Press is reporting.

The announcement comes as Asian markets are set to open for the first time since Standard & Poor’s downgraded the United States’ credit rating on Friday, a decision heavily criticised by the White House. Geithner remaining at his post will help maintain the stability of President Obama’s economic team during a stressful time.

“Secretary Geithner has let the president know that he plans to stay on in his position at Treasury,” Jenni LeCompte, assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement. “He looks forward to the important work ahead on the challenges facing our great country.”

Heh. While the markets are anything but stable, it’s a comfort, at least, to know President Obama’s economic team will be. Not. And, of course, that’s not even accurate, anyway. Tim Geithner is the only guy not to go.

The secretary informed President Obama that he plans to say on in his position, ending speculation that the last member of President Obama’s original economic team would depart.  White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says President Obama asked Geithner to stay. …

The Obama administration routinely states that its actions helped prevent the economy from becoming even worse, but unemployment has remained high and growth low during the Obama presidency. Several prominent members of Obama’s economic team have departed such as Larry Summers, Christina Romer, Peter Orszag and Austan Goolsbee.

Given Obama’s track record at selecting economic advisers, it probably makes little difference whether Geithner stays or goes. But it would have been a pleasant surprise if Obama tacitly acknowledged the nation’s frustration by not begging Geithner to remain.

Hunh? Hey…wait a minute, whats that? Whatchutalkinabout Willis? Please do tell!

This could be hugely interesting, why you say? Could be that Giethner Sr is possibly the 4th horseman of a communist cabal. Valerie was mentored by By Vernon Jarret(father-in-law), Axlerod by Don Rose, and Obama by Frank Marshall Davis. The mentorer’s are all old friends and commie comarades(card carrying in fact) in arms in Chicago, is little Timmy Jr the 4th protege in an intergenerational scheme to tear down the bastion of capitalism? The 1st 3 surely are, and there is boo-coo documentation to back that up. Even Ayers Sr. of ComEd is connected to the mentors and even had little Barack at the Ayers’ home when the boy was 11, But this Geithner Sr wrinkle is new indeed.

Issa has a pretty full plate. It’s going to take years to sort out all the dirty laundry this administration has. … and this is real, not the manufactured BS the leftards came up with during the Bush administration.

As far as Geithner, whenever a corporation screws up as royally (in an analogous sense) as this administration has screwed this up, the CEO goes, as does the chairman of the board and other high-ranking company officials. Doesn’t matter if they were complicit or not, they are swept out to at least provide some indication that the company understands how badly it has screwed up and to put forth at least the facade that it is going to clean up its act.

Key West Reader on August 7, 2011 at 6:28 PM

IMO, the Clinton administration was as corrupt as this one (Remember who Sandy Burgler served), however, their corruption was still pretty much the self-aggrandizing type of corruption with only a few ideological flavorings thrown in. At their core, even though they were both marxist educated, Bill and Hillary pretty much have the grifter’s heart. Bill’s subsequent speaking fees and speech circuit kind of reinforce that notion. The current administration differs because most of its corruption is ideologically driven with a marxist agenda and the goal of destroying our country as it is constituted and re-making the country into a marxist-socialist society (with King Barry at the top, of course). That’s a completely different goal and comes with a completely different set of motivations. Bill could triangulate after the 1994 elections because he still wanted to maintain his office and he did not want to see the country driven to bankruptcy because that would ruin his goal of being well off. Barry can’t triangulate after the 2010 elections because that would be antithetical and detrimental to his end goal of destroying the US capitalist economy.

AZfederalist on August 7, 2011 at 6:45 PM

If Mickey Mouse got Donald Duck to replace Geithner, it woud be an improvement.

burt on August 7, 2011 at 6:48 PM

I’m tellin’ ya. The guy is wired. Somehow. He is this administration’s Janet Reno. Whereas the task of the Clinton mob was to assault the American ideal of personal liberty (Waco, Elian), this crew’s task is to undermine the economy. Mission accomplished! And so like Reno, Beavis Geithner will be here the whole 8 years…OMG. The horror. The horror.
