Jay Carney: “The White House doesn’t create jobs”

posted at 4:48 pm on August 4, 2011 by Allahpundit

Alternate headline: “Jay Carney helpfully provides GOP with new campaign slogan.”

Carney listed legislative priorities the president believes will create jobs, including an infrastructure bank, the passage of free trade agreements, and tax cuts. But he would not say what was being done to further those goals while Congress takes a month-long vacation.

“The White House doesn’t create jobs,” Carney said, adding “the government, together — White House, Congress — creates policies that allow for greater job creation.”

Asked whether the White House could do more, Carney said “there is no silver bullet” to creating jobs — but he didn’t answer the question.

I don’t remember Gibbs being quite so eager to share credit with Congress when unemployment was ticking ever so slowly downward, which the White House naturally attributed to jobs “created or saved” by the stimulus. I do remember Obama telling Matt Lauer shortly after the stimulus passed that if he hadn’t turned the economy around in three years, he’d be a one-term president. How come he didn’t tell us at the time that “the White House doesn’t create jobs”? Ah well. Now that it’s all but certain the economy won’t rebound in time to hand O an easy win next year, consider this a sneak preview of their new two-pronged campaign message. Prong one: Republicans are, if not terrorists, close enough to terrorists that they can’t be trusted to govern. And prong two: Responsibility for our ruined economy is much more complicated than you think, average voter!

Here’s Tapper grilling Carney about what Obama’s doing right now, today, to get some sort of new economic package going in Congress to address the urgent threat of a double dip. You want to know what he’s doing today, Jake? He’s having a cookout. Seriously. Click the image to watch.

But when Pelosi had the hammer they didn’t want to take accountability at all.

Media suffocate for letting them turn the items as they need them, and get away with it, because you dwell in Obama’as azz, you caca-consumers. Suffocate from it and implode professinally.

I’d go a step further and say the White House destroys jobs.

ObamaCare has already obstructed job creation and will eventually kill entire businesses, if not whole industries.

The stimulus passed in February 2009. He’s got 6 months left to turn the economy around. Ask the traders on Wall Street if they think he can.

“The White House doesn’t create jobs,” Carney said, adding “the government, together — White House, Congress — creates policies that allow for greater job creation.”

Hmmm, isn’t that what conservatives have been saying for, I don’t know, FOREVER?! You create the best environment possible for the private sector to flourish. You don’t spend trillions of dollars in a vain attempt to boost economic activity. You don’t pass burdensome regulation that’s coming at us so rapidly that business owners can’t even keep up with it. You don’t shove down our throats a 3000 page Obamacare law that threatens to destroy the entire health care system.

Jay Carney’s right, even if he didn’t realize it at the time. The problem is everything this administration has done has led us to the point we’re at now.

Really Right on August 4, 2011 at 4:50 PM

If President Obama really wanted to create jobs, he would lead the fight to REDUCE the U.S. Corporate Income Tax rate.

Right now the high U.S. Corporate Tax rate is giving companies a big incentive to move their capital and the jobs that go with it to other countries with lower tax rates.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-10-21/google-2-4-rate-shows-how-60-billion-u-s-revenue-lost-to-tax-loopholes.html

We need to recognize that we live in a competitive world and U.S. Corporate tax rates are no longer competitive.

We will continue to chase our jobs and tax revenue away until we LOWER our Corporate Tax rates.

He would have to immediately issue drilling permits in the gulf, repeal all the new EPA regulations, repeal Obamacare, repeal Frank-Dodd, neuter the NLRB, and admit his policies have taken the USA to the brink of total collapse. Did I leave anything out?

How about a tax holiday on the “engine of our economy” – small businesses. You know – the sector that every politician gives lip service to right before granting a multi-billion dollar tax loophole for Fortune 500 corporations. You want job growth? You want investment and construction? STOP CRUSHING SMALL BUSINESSES! Rollback all new regulatory rules imposed since 1/22/09. Suspend Obamacare. Prohibit new regulatory fiats through 1/21/13. Suspend capital gains taxes. Require banks that received bailout funds to start lending again.

in_awe on August 4, 2011 at 5:27 PM

From earlier this year:

O’bama Created More Jobs in 2010 than Bush Did in 8 Years

Jobs are growing in the U.S. They’ve grown for 12 straight months under Obama’s economic stimulus policies and, in 2010 alone, more jobs were added than in Bush’s 8 years as president.

Oh, the lies. How many times have you heard Republicans or even the media say that climate change, clean energy, and environmental policies are job killers? How many times have you heard the claims that Obama’s efforts to improve the economy aren’t working? How many times have you been told that peanut butter doesn’t taste good with jam? (Okay, scratch that last one, that’s a matter of opinion.)

If you haven’t heard yet, new data out by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that in 2010 the economy saw an increase of 1.1 million jobs. But what is a number like that without a reference point, right? Turns out that if you look back at the same stats over the past decade, you can see that is more than the total number of jobs created in Bush’s 8 years as president.

http://ecopolitology.org/2011/01/12/obama-created-more-jobs-in-2010-than-bush-did-in-8-years/

Schadenfreude: Did you check out this part of the piece that you linked to?

Make no mistake: Obama brings some advantages to the race, not least of which is the continued strong support of black and Hispanic voters and young people. Voters generally seem to find him likable and hard-working and uniformly give him higher marks than Republicans in Congress.

Obama will do his best to paint his opponent as extreme — if not personally, then as the head of a party beholden to the tea party. The GOP candidate will be implicitly asking these independent voters to, in effect, reverse the history they made just four years earlier and vote out the first African-American president in U.S. history.

That strategy is mighty thin gruel for O to run a campaign with.

And throw away that silly “infrastructure bank,” nimrods. It is nothing more than a union slush fund to pay off protected classes. It is no more secure than the SS lockbox.

How much of that “stimulus money” swirled down the tubes, never to be accounted for?

Jay Carney: “The White House doesn’t create jobs”

It has certainly destroyed a number of them in the Gulf Coast. How did the ME turmoil not lead to our freeing up our own resources?

The White House just cannot believe that what they say and claim is not happening. With so much belief in their agenda their word should make things happen. The pathetic part of all this is others believe this too.
