Interesting

At this point, some of Perry’s positions are as blurry as the screencap for this post. :)

Sorry Fallon-Perry has more XO experience than Mrs. Palin. HE get’s top of ticket.

I can’t wait for the collapse of Perry’s support, there’s going to be a lot of people eating their hats.

Whoa on the Perry/Palin split question – that is a suprise for this site.
Thanks again for doing this every month – it’s one of my favorite posts.

I have a friend in Orlando who was very proudly working for Huntsman. He’s not been so vociferous lately. I think I see why.
AubieJon on August 2, 2011 at 9:31 AM
another Month another Palin can of whoop as*
It does look like the ABP people have found a candidate to rally behind in Perry.
I’m not surprised at the flame out of Bachmann or Cain they were never qualified to be POTUS.
I hope Palin and Perry emerge as the two major candidates in the primary. It woould mean the moderates lost no matter who wins.
unseen on August 2, 2011 at 9:32 AM
Patrick. The question, If you have changed your pick for president, who did you formally support?, seems to be from the beginning of time. Seems to me it would show trends and who was losing support if it was from survey to survey. I can’t believe around 2500 people changed their mind in the last month.
Palin/Rubio

No shiny dime today, ALT. Palin has the charisma and the grassroots backing. It’s time for some crisp Alaskan fresh air to cleanse the DC swamp.

I don’t understand how Palin can consistently lose the most supporters yet keep going up in overall support. I’m beginning to think that undecided people just choose Palin as former support. In any rate, it doesn’t seem to logically follow. Her numbers should fall, not rise.
Pattosensei on August 2, 2011 at 9:45 AM
I am not a fan of Bachmann. the biggest reason is I don’t think she is qualified, no executive experience at all, the comments form her ex CoS etc. Then I have problem with the fact her campaign manger is rOllins, her campaign strategy of trying to be the “smart” Palin, her hypocritcal statements on things like being antibailout but then penning a letter to the Obama admin thanking them for bailing out the pork industry or her taking government money for her farm or her husbands clinic.
I did gain some respect for her on her position on the debt deal.

I’m still standing by my prediction that when all is said and done, the ticket will be Perry/Romney or Romney/Perry.
nickj116 on August 2, 2011 at 9:47 AM
doesn’t that trigger an automatic recount?
unseen on August 2, 2011 at 9:48 AM
It’s because the people that don’t like Palin pick her has their former support. It’s a bad question and can easily be played with.

Sarah Palin polls 46.6% in an online poll with the Ace of Spades last week and now 40% with HA this week but for some reason Sarah Palin is NOT worthy enough to be a part of Rasmussen’s latest poll of GOP contenders while Rick Perry is placed in the spotlight even though he has not declared yet and Palin is given short shrift.
I notice that no one has tried to justify Rasmussen’s decision. By the way he excluded Palin in his June poll as well.
You people are fair-minded people. You may not agree with Sarah Palin on the issues or you may even hate her guts but you have to admit it is NOT fair for any pollster to be heavy-handed and exclude her from any poll of GOP contenders especially when she polls so well in online polls.
And finally have you noticed no one prominent in the right-wing blogosphere has brought up or addressed this issue?
Can we say vast right-wing conspiracy?

Palin was trailing Perry (by a sizable percentage, about 15% iirc) at Ace much of the day until there was an Instalanche, then what had been a random sample of site visitors (with the tallies going up for all of the candidates by the same relative amounts) became a all Palin ‘votes.’ The accompanying comments from new hashes read like fan letters to Parker Stevenson in Teen Beat. Pretty funny, actually.

My prediction was Perry/Kasich or Romney/Kasich and I’m sticking with that. I don’t think Perry or Romney bring anything to the bottom half of the ticket while Kasich ups the odds on winning Ohio, especially if his reforms start to show promise.

Gohawgs on August 2, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I’m not ready to go all Hillary on this, but I participated in a straw poll this past weekend and Palin was not on the ballot. I was told they would not accept write-ins, so I wrote her in anyway knowing my vote wouldn’t count.
It did seem strange considering it was a woman-centric group.
Fallon on August 2, 2011 at 10:12 AM
Um, Obama did less in his pathetic “career” and won. So why can’t Palin? Sorry, but there is no true conservative that is “unelectable”. It is a principle which never loses if practiced and articulated correctly, as Rush always says.
search4truth on August 2, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I do not oppose Michele Bachmann because of her so-called lack of executive experience. The same could be said of Abraham Lincoln who only served one term in the US House before being elected President.
I oppose Bachmann on different grounds. I believe that she is a one-trick pony who is not capable of or does not know how to offer up nuance and variation when interviewed. Her interviews are all one speed and one tone.
That is acceptable if you are a Congressman or Senator but to run for President in the 21st century you need to boast a repertoire of approaches and tones to meet the needs of a specific occasion or circumstance.
Unfortunately for Bachmann, she has never developed that asset or skill.
And Sarah Palin has.

In fact had served two executive terms as mayor of the fifth largest city in Alaska, implemented Reagan-modeled policies and transformed it into fastest-growing economic area in the state. All while winning over its mostly hostile and entrenched bureaucratic bastion.

I have been following Sarah Palin for exactly 3 years and I am also a student of history and understand authoritarianism in all its manifestations.
Simply put Sarah Palin is a superstar and she is very dangerous because she could win the GOP nomination and then go one and beat Obama in 15 months.
Even Lefties like Andrew Sullivan and Joe Klein admitted that on the Chris Matthews program a few months ago.
So what strategy have her enemies used to stop her? One as old as the hills. Deny her existence. Obliterate her from the radar screen.
In Fascist and communist countries that would mean concentration camps or execution.
In the USA it means deliberating ignoring her or dismissing her as inconsequential through massive MSM propaganda. Regardless of the means the intent is the same. To act in a heavy-handed, authoritarian manner to control the environment and to tip the scales into your favor.
Really that is the only choice her enemies have. Sarah Palin is just too good at what she does.

Once Palin calls it that Perry v. Palin 50% will be history.
RDE2010 on August 2, 2011 at 10:40 AM
The Palin/Perry is interesting, but more interesting is the 2nd choice for POTUS if the 1st drops out. While Palin, MB & Perry are the only ones to get double digits, MB shoots to 19%, Palin falls to 11% and Perry falls to 24%. Juxtaposed with the Palin v Perry split at 50/50, indcates that the two are not “similiar”.
IOW, people support Palin for totally different reasons than for Perry; supporting one does not automatically default the other to second choice. More likely many that have Palin as 1st choice, have Perry as second, but those that have Perry 1st, shift to MB as 2nd and vice versa. The ABP effect is strong, even among conservatives.
We’ll see how that dynamic changes when both SP & RP join the race and start debating.
AH_C on August 2, 2011 at 10:42 AM
Perry’s not running. He said so several times. He would completely have to go back on his word to run. I mean, if you can’t trust a politician, who can you trust?

To me what is fascinating about this thread and other online threads as well is how little attention is given to Mitt Romney’s pathetic showing in all online polls.
Do you realize that could pose a major problem for Romney in competing against Obama?
Obama and his team are experts on the use of the Internet and increasing their support in this manner and using it to fundraise as well.
Yes, Romney polls anywhere now from 15%-20% in traditional polls but you do have to question their validity when he can’t reach double digits in any online poll.
