No clue if that’s sarcastic or a jab or why you felt the need to make such a cryptic response to a comment that you’ve already commented on an hour ago. Just trying to cause more trouble?

miConsevative on July 31, 2011 at 11:37 PM

Picked Perry/Ryan.
If Perry doesn’t run and Palin does she’s my VERY distant second choice.
For me:Perry V Palin=Perry
Palin V Bachmann= Palin
Like Sanutorum but his candidacy is going NOWHERE.

Doesn’t bother me. However, I really am suspect of his motive for running. He had no thoughts of running until he thought he could get the nomination. I know it is not the same as other candidates.

Among the declared candidates, who would be your vote for President? * By popular demand.

Thanks for adding it. In my case, it really does measure something :D

Cindy Munford on July 31, 2011 at 11:37 PM

Right. I’m fine with politicians, in general, leaving for a higher office. But Perry being questioned about it several times in the last campaign makes me assume it was a genuine concern of Texas voters. If I were a voter with that concern and then based my vote on his promise, not sure how happy I’d be.

I was hoping a clip of the exchange would show up here. It was quite sickening, and beyond just McCain, I think was quite illustrative of the pat-on-the-back, good-ole-boy, inside the beltway crowd where both sides of the aisle work together for their own political futures and realize half of what they say on the floor is just a show for us stupid rubes to think they are looking out for us. I was waiting for a ‘wink, wink, nudge nudge’ from McCain the whole time he was talking.

I want to pay tribute to Patrick Ishmael, who unlike some pollsters, has not followed through with his threat to omit Sarah Palin from any poll of GOP presidential contenders.

And Ishmael has done his level best to dissuade folks from voting for Palin. That is his right.

But Patrick, let me say this as a Palinista, we respect the truth and we respect contrary opinions to ours but we have no respect for the Fascist tactics used by some of your colleagues who have arbitrarily taken Sarah Palin out of the mix.

That is utterly reprehensible.

I stand with Sarah Palin. Millions of us do. In the words of Winston Churchill, “We will never, never surrender our support for Sarah Palin.”

(Providing of course she runs for President in 2012.)

So they are pouting over not getting their $400 million pet project.

What I find sad, is you, a conservative, not only seem to be seeking out ways to mock a fellow conservative, but are taking pleasure in it. It’s one thing not to support someone who holds the same views as you, but seeking to help destroy them says more about you than it does her.

I think it’s referring to more the ‘results’ posts. Palin is regularly downplayed in them even though she consistently wins them. The last 3 or 4 have even had the picture of the ‘runner up’ for the thread rather than Palin. I don’t lose sleep over it, and I love Patrick’s surveys for the data results either way.

miConsevative on August 1, 2011 at 12:06 AM

gh on August 1, 2011 at 12:01 AM

You have to follow all monthly polls to get the gist of what am saying. Ishmael has employed various tactics to dampen Palin’s support or to portray her in a less than favorable light. Again I am NOT criticizing him for doing so. It is his poll. Like PPP, he has every right to try to create a narrative that is anti-Palin or pro-someone else.

But imho, he has no right to exclude Sarah Palin from a HA straw poll which he has never done.

But again it doesn’t mean he hasn’t gone to great lengths to convince respondents not to vote for her.

Just calling a spade a spade.

Wouldn’t say I obsess and perhaps wouldn’t have said anything – though I do think his initial comment was insulting and uncalled for – but have seen him treat other commenters the same way recently and held my tongue then. And maybe even more because there have been so many threads on the various minutia of the debt debate that I was ready to comment on something else…ANYTHING else.

MeatHeadinCA on August 1, 2011 at 12:13 AM

Why should I whine when Palin has won every HA straw poll?

But facts are facts. Despite Ishmael’s many attempts to undermine Sarah Palin in his polls (not just one poll but over several polls) she has prevailed.

In other words if anyone is new this poll and thinks Patrick Ishmael is a Palin cheerleader and that is why she keeps on winning you’ve got that all wrong.

And that’s pretty much par for the course.

Should Sarah be amongst the top picks I will not be at all surprised as she generated a LOT of positive influence in 2008 which brought folks to our GOP Victory Center in droves.

MeatHeadinCA on August 1, 2011 at 12:04 AM

Knucklehead on August 1, 2011 at 12:11 AM

Palin is going to have to roll the dice and declare in September (or October … ;-). Then we’ll see. She’ll do well in the debates and she’ll do well in polls of the GOP. The primaries are the key. I still think there’s a very small chance she might endorse Perry (or someone else).

Polls of the US in the fall will be interesting. Drawing massive crowds at rallies should help her. And then the primaries will tell. The media will pull out all the stops to defame her. Interesting times.

I must be getting tired, I meant that he doesn’t talk her up. Sorry.

Cindy Munford on August 1, 2011 at 12:24 AM

This is what I am talking about. Today on his radio program Scott Rasmussen announced his latest results after polling the GOP contenders:

ROMNEY: 22% (33%)

PERRY 18% (-)

BACHMANN 16% (19)

Brackets June’s poll

As in June, Sarah Palin was NOT a part of the mix.

In July Rick Perry was and he, like Palin, has not declared his intentions yet. Why was Perry included in the poll?

This is totally unacceptable and outrageous.

At least PPP and Ishmael may attempt to cast an anti-Palin narrative but they don’t get so heavy-handed to exclude her as one of the choices.

Having said that Romney is in deep, deep trouble–losing 11 points in one month and only polling at 22% without Palin in the mix.

In sporting parlance Romney is coming back to the pack and as a consequence Palin has narrowed her trailing margin on Romney even though she is not being polled by Rasmussen currently.

And she hasn’t spent a red nickel in doing so.

Now does it now make sense now why the GOP establishment and the media are now pushing the Rick Perry narrative?

technopeasant on August 1, 2011 at 12:25 AM

Palin coming in first won’t be proof of anti-Perry bias on Patrick’s part-all it’ll mean is that Palin has lot of supporters here.
No biggie.

annoyinglittletwerp on August 1, 2011 at 12:26 AM

Knucklehead on August 1, 2011 at 12:23 AM

I would think that it stands to reason that Rep. Bachmann would gain on Gov. Palin since she has actually announced. I think most of that would be reversed if and/or when Gov. Palin enters the race.

Cindy, you have got to be kidding. Ace has consistently bashed Sarah Palin since her resignation on July 3, 2009. The only exception was when she endorsed the Ryan road map.

Ace and Ishmael could be twins. Both have bashed her or at least made less than favorable comments about her political potential. And both at one time have threatened to exclude her from their poll, but to their credit they have never followed through with their threats.

By the way since you brought up Ace of Spades here are the poll results from this past week on his online poll:

PALIN 46.6% (4607 VOTES)

PERRY 38.5% (3807)

BACHMANN 5.2% (515)

ROMNEY 2.95 (293)

CAIN 2.61% (258)

Everybody else under 2%

9886 total votes cast

Believe me that is NOT the result Ace wanted. Read some of the anti-Palin comments at his site. In June Ace had Perry beating Palin by 28 votes. Ace took great delight in that result.

technopeasant on August 1, 2011 at 12:35 AM

I don’t whine that every poll and post that isn’t 100 % favorable to Rick Perry is some how proof of the poster’s/Blog’s anti-Perry bias.

Ditto w/ Knuck and Cain etc.
Certain Palin supporters on the other hand…

annoyinglittletwerp on August 1, 2011 at 12:32 AM

But you do whine about the few Palin supporters that do the whining an awful lot.

I stick by my initial comment that there are typically many more people complain about a few Palinistas’ complaints (real or imagined) than actual complaints from Palinistas. Scroll through this thread and try to prove me wrong – and with several ABPers, they complain about Palinistas’ complains before any Palinistas have said anything.

Funny how all the ‘experts’ are behind the curve and wait for someone to become popular …
miConsevative on August 1, 2011 at 12:31 AM

It’s worse than that. Last time NRO picked Romney. Ramesh Ponnuru is doubling down, IIRC. She hasn’t declared yet and she’s polling worse than everyone else head-to-head against Obama.

She has to declare and then prove herself, this fall. If she does that then you’ll see NRO firmly behind her. There’s no-one there who has any illusions about Obama.

I just don’t know what to think about these outside polls showing such striking leads by Gov. Romney. He is less involved than either Palin or Perry, says nothing about the current situation but is still ahead. I don’t understand.

Cindy Munford on August 1, 2011 at 12:32 AM

I don’t understand how we got from compromising on raising the debt ceiling to raising the debt ceiling and making very poor cuts as a Republican “win.” Anyway, I do know that Romney is the wrong person for America and I don’t see how he can beat Obama – for the very reasons you basically pointed out. I will do what I can to get a conservative elected in the primaries.

I think there are many many people out there not paying attention so Romney looks like what a president looks like, they recognize the name, they’ve heard something about him being some business guy or something and they haven’t heard much bad about him since he hasn’t been bashed in the press like others, so they pick him.

miConsevative on August 1, 2011 at 12:40 AM

I wouldn’t think it was very smart to bad mouth Gov. Palin on a conservative blog. Even those that don’t want her to run for president like her vies. Why insult your audience?

Cindy Munford on August 1, 2011 at 12:35 AM

It’s not very smart, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Ed himself all but signed Sarah Palin’s political death warrant on account of her resignation. And I have yet to read anything remotely resembling an admission from him that he was wrong.

Naww… he still is touchy about TPaw. He even got into the TPaw cat fight with Bachmann basically say, “Hey, they’re both great now why are people lying about TPaw!?!” hehehe. Whatever. I kinda get it and I just like ribbing him. Now, I am concerned that JetBoy is now a Palinista – kiss o’ death indeed!

Here are three reasons why Romney does way better with traditional pollsters and polls than online polls:

1)Those who predominantly vote in online polls are conservative or very conservative. Most of Romney’s support comes from moderates.

2)Most of Romney’s support comes from folks 50 and older and especially among seniors. If you don’t believe me go back to the PPP national and state polls beginning in March 2010. That is undeniable.

Surveys have also shown that folks over 65 as a demographic group are the most likely to be computer illiterate, not own a computer or be too incapacitated to use one. Remember seniors also includes folks 80 and above.

And they are the most likely demographic group to still get their news from network TV (the Big 3) or newspapers.

And we all know who controls those outlets, don’t we?

3)Polls conducted without Palin in the mix inflate Romney’s totals as well. Notice Romney RCP average in respect to being a GOP presidential contender. The average is inflated because it includes polls in which Palin was not included in the mix.

I think plenty of them are trying to figure out how to balance that with their desire to be invited to cocktail parties. Some of the sites I visit have already embraced the “Hobbit” label. The “smart” conservatives would never do such a thing.

It’s funny, someone commented on here about the theme of the original r3v0lution being “Yankee Doodle”, which was originally written by the British to mock the low-brow Americans. Yet it was these low-brow colonists who formed the country that would become THE world power in less than 200 years. I’m seeing the same now – and the establishment are the British. The American spirit embraces being ‘the little guy’. And afterall, it WAS the tiny hobbits who saved middle Earth. So now, when I try to figure out the good guys and the bad guys, if I can see them as a snooty Brit looking down on the riff raff, they are a bad guy – if I can picture them embracing the hobbit label, I’ll take em on my team.
