I love the Hobbit tag but I stand by my 9:31 remarks. I would feel better about Conservative pundits if I thought they were worried about invites but I actually think most of them don’t like her. They barely hid their disdain for W and he went to Yale and Harvard.

Yeah, but W was pinned as the stupid cowboy. It has nothing to do with education or ability and everything to do with appearance – and I would say that’s why they don’t like her and didn’t like W. They are embarrassed at these ‘uncultured boobs’ being leaders in the conservative movement.

I am Petunia Hamwich of Buckelberry Fern.
On my FB page I must’ve been writing in my Chicago accent-because I wrote ‘Hammich’ instead. LoL

Would they prefer Kathleen Parker, Ben Stein, or David Brooks? No? Oh, why????

Your name is much better than mine.

Berilac Boggy-Hillocks

For some reason, it makes me feel like I should be wearing really baggy green corduroy pants.

I agree but the fact is that all of that about W was manufactured, he is from an established family of blue bloods. The chose to generate that image. And I don’t mean blue bloods in a derogatory way, I mean historical lineage on dad and mom’s side.

That’s probably the height of fashion in Hobbit world.

And while Palin doesn’t have blue blood, the caribou barbie image is also manufactured. As high school as it sounds, there are a lot of political ‘experts’ out there who are concerned with image and acceptance. Some are complete sell outs like David Brooks. Other are more of a 50/50 mix like Carl Rove. And some are more reliably conservative but the acceptance thing still comes into play in certain situations, like Ann Coulter seems to be revealing herself to be.

I’m not saying that all objections concerning Palin are just about image, acceptance and popularity with the ‘elites’, but it definitely plays a much MUCH larger role than it should in conservative circles.

I don’t get Ann lately. Do they think people don’t know manufactured issues are just because they want to control who is in their club. Brooks, yuck and I am still annoyed with Rove.

I think the ticket will either be Romney/Kasich or Perry/Kasich, but mark my words, John Kasich will be VP pick.

PatMac on July 31, 2011 at 7:47 PM

why do you think so? I have always loved Kasich.

Elisa on July 31, 2011 at 8:20 PM
Sorry I missed your response earlier. derft nailed it earlier here – swing state with 18 EVs. A republican doesn’t become president without winning Ohio. I agree with your feelings towards Kasich – I’ve always felt he was a real straight shooter with lots of relevant experience. I don’t think he’d be a factor in any presidential race but I think he’d be a terrific VP pick. If Ohio economy rebounds like Wisconsin’s seems to be, I just think Kasich will be a lock.

PatMac on July 31, 2011 at 10:10 PM

Don’t know if you are still reading this thread, but

I find this very interesting and it makes sense why someone would want Kasich as VP. Great record, lots of experience and the Ohio votes.

But do you think Kasich would take the VP spot since he would only be Governor by then for only a year? It might not look good leaving office after so short a time. (and I don’t want to hear anything about Palin here; she was right to quit.)

I hope he does take the VP spot. Just wondering if he would.

It is an interesting thought isn’t it? If people would stop campaigning so early he could get a lot done and a good deal of his term under his belt before making the rounds around the nation.

Cindy Munford on August 1, 2011 at 1:10 PM

True. The VP only has to campaign from August to the election. By swearing in time, Kasich will have served 2 years. Wonder if there is a lietenant Governor in Ohio or if he’d appoint someone. If there is an election, it might not be a good idea for Ohio. They might not like it and hold it against Kasich and that would defeat the purpose of having him on the ticket.

Depends on if Ohio wants to share him. lol
