WH press corps hammers Carney: How come Obama hasn’t produced his own debt-ceiling plan?

posted at 4:30 pm on July 26, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler. And so, at long last, we reach the bitterly logical conclusion of O’s debt-ceiling-as-reelection-strategy gambit: Six agonizing minutes of his paid flack playing dumb while reporters ask why, at the eleventh hour and after months of negotiations, the “adult in the room” still hasn’t produced his own formal, score-able proposal. The answer, of course, is that the more he publicly commits to a plan, the easier it is for the GOP to use it against him next year. So he’s doing what any “adult” supervising a group of unruly children would do. He’s sitting back and staying quiet to protect his own precious ass while they fight it out. Guy Benson:

Since his unmitigated failure of a budget was unanimously defeated in the Senate, this president has refused to offer a specific plan of his own on virtually anything at all. Instead, he talks about “visions” and “contours” and “frameworks” — and tries to blame his opponents when his poor leadership is exposed. Over the last five days, the president has (a) undermined a bargain with John Boehner by introducing an unacceptable eleventh-hour condition, (b) rejected “out of hand” a bipartisan compromise that he found to be politically unpalatable, and (c) delivered a speech that painted his opponents as the intractable extremists. In light of this behavior, it’s entirely reasonable for Americans to wonder what, precisely, Barack Obama’s proposed solution might be. Today, the White House dismissively waived off that question as a GOP talking point and condescendingly inquired if the journalist who dared to ask it was capable of taking notes.

Steve Hayes notes that it wasn’t so long ago that Obama’s press secretary was mocking the GOP at the podium as “the party of no ideas” for producing a brief budget framework instead of a detailed plan. Fast forward two years and, with the alleged economic apocalypse nearly upon us, we’ve got a different press secretary insisting that O doesn’t need to float a plan because he once gave a speech or something. Good times, good times.

Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just… do things. The Republicans have plans, the media has plans, Boehner’s got plans. You know, they’re schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I’m not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are.

I just did what I do best. I took your little constitution and I turned it on itself. Look what I did to this city with a few trillion dollars and a couple of czars. Hmmm?

You know… You know what I’ve noticed? Nobody panics when things go “according to plan.” Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the mainstream media that, like, unemployment is going to never get below 9%, or the federal budget is going to get blown up, nobody panics, because it’s all “part of the plan.” But when I say that one little old lady will get her social security check a few days late, well then everyone loses their minds!

Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It’s fair!

… now we’re talking.

This White House never produces anything even close to a ‘plan’ or ‘bill’. To do so would be to open their vapid posturings to detailed criticism. Remember BoBoCare…there was nothing anyone could read until the last moment and then it was mumbo jumbo, allowing the left to lie about it.

It wan not until much later that everything the conservatives said about the scheme was proven true.

There IS no deal, will be no deal. The numbers have been crunched and the idea is that Barry takes the I-told-you-so approach into 2012. NOTHING else makes sense. He’ll move heaven and earth (along with the MSM) to put the chain around the Elephant’s neck.

What is he gonna run on? The health bill? Employment? Infrastructure improvements? Better Ed? War is over? The Volt? There is NOTHING to claim, all he has left is blame.
That is the war plan.

Two Questions:

1. Why has no one in the press asked Obama to explain his 2006 vote against the last debt ceiling increase and his florid rhetoric against raising it?

2. If this is a “crisis of the Republicans’ making”, as O’Bozo says, why has no one from the press asked Obama to explain why every single Democrat in the Senate vote against raising the limit in 2006 … and why it wasn’t a crisis?

C-BS:

At a lengthy hearing on ATF’s controversial gunwalking operation today, a key ATF manager told Congress he discussed the case with a White House National Security staffer as early as September 2010. The communications were between ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office, Bill Newell, and White House National Security Director for North America Kevin O’Reilly. Newell said the two are longtime friends. The content of what Newell shared with O’Reilly is unclear and wasn’t fully explored at the hearing.

Jay Carney was once a reporter. Yes, he was a lefty, but no more or less corrupt than any of the other democrat stenographers in the LSM. Watching that video, though, one sees the true ugliness of what becomes a person who signs on to be an official mouthpiece of an entirely corrupt regime bent on national destruction. Carney is now snide and condescending, so bothered by the fact that his boss is being held to account and cannot simply tell them all to shut up and follow orders. He has woken up with fleas, and it isn’t pretty. Oh, well, I suppose he’ll get a book out of it down the road, and no doubt a job teaching “journalism” at some lofty university. But he’ll have to live with the fact that he was once a lying whore, and I do believe that takes a toll.

FloatingRock on July 26, 2011 at 6:00 PM

All this “where is the President’s plan?” stuff is going to backfire. He’ll put out a plan, it will have a ton of tax increases, but the media will report them as being ONLY on gazillionaires, few spending cuts, and the media will report them as being BIGGER than anyone else’s plan, and then the GOP will be hammered for rejecting it. Be careful what you wish for.

BillCarson on July 26, 2011 at 6:04 PM

Obama would probably have fallen into the 30% right now if they had tried to play this on the up and up and released a bloated budget/plan full of taxes and spending. And if they didn’t do that and released a centrist budget instead then it would be an obvious joke, considering all of the spending, and a centrist plan would turn off the Left.

The Democrats figured they’d rather sit back and take pot shots from the sidelines while the Republicans run the gauntlet.

Let’s think about this for a second….

At this point (if you were in the Republican Leadership) wouldn’t you be thinking…..”is there anything this administration can’t fvck up”?

Survey the carnage around you….Debt Rising,Reid marginalized, Pelosi irrelevant, Indies defecting, an electorate that is increasingly more pissed-off at the opposing party, and the obama-leg-humping-MSM now lining up to take shot’s at an increasingly disengenuous snarky, smarmy little a-hole of a press secretary.

And best of all – an arrogant, scared, feckless little twerp of a president who sounds like a whiney, spoiled child in his latest presser.

Wouldn’t you think this would be the perfect time to go for the throat?

Reams of paper? One ream = 500 sheets, so that means that his plan, if there ever has been one, is over 1000 pages long.

Kermit on July 26, 2011 at 6:16 PM

BO’s definition of leadership is a bit different than others who’ve come before. Voting present and holding hands in the boat is apparently his preferred method. If we are to believe he’s the smartest president in history, then shouldn’t his “smart” ideas be immortalized in an actual plan that everyone can read and worship.

Can you imagine how BO’s style would work in place of Churchhill’s during WWII? How would the cold war have turned out had we had BO placating the USSR? Pluck Lincoln or Washington out of their situations and plug in BO. If you’re having trouble imagining the outcome, just think of all the leaders of failed regimes in history where BO would have fit nicely into the top spot.

Bottom line, he makes a great community organizer, stirring up mayhem, pointing out what is wrong with the status quo, and creating victims. As the leader of the free world, where he is expected to fix things, he’s an abject failure. Thanks to the left-wing scum bags that have caused an enormous amount of pain so that we could experience their utopian pipe dreams.

Carney basically argues that the way Congress has worked for 222 years doesn’t work. Pass a House bill, pass a Senate bill, go to conference. Apparently that’s never been successful.

hawksruleva on July 26, 2011 at 5:10 PM

This situation is fundamentally different, however, because the fact is that the public perception is that something must be done by a date certain, or default will occur and fault will be assessed. That deadline changes the political balance and gives the advantage completely to the House.

For weeks pundits have been saying that Obama had the political advantage because he could sign or not sign whatever is sent to him. But he doesn’t have that advantage, one which he normally would have over the Congress.

In this situation, the bottom line advantage is with the House. They start the legislation, and if they pass and send to the Senate a few plans that could head off the crisis, and the Senate either votes them down or does not act, the default fault becomes theirs because the perception is that something must be done by that date certain.

But if they work out a deal with the House, and the two of them pass legislation and send it to the President at the 11th hour, Obama has to either swallow and sign what he doesn’t like, or he takes complete ownership of the default fault.

That is why Dingy Harry suddenly started dealing with the Speaker — he doesn’t want himself or the Senate to get the blame.

Obama refuses to say what his plan is because he does not grasp the fact that the political reality is fundamentally different than when he was trying to get Healthcare.

If the House times this right, they can literally force a solution that is far more to their liking.
