Video: Is Spenditol right for you?

posted at 2:05 pm on July 21, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

I’m with Jim Geraghty on this new ad from Concerned Women for America — it’s awesome. The new “miracle drug, made in Washington DC,” allows users to mask pain by spending money we don’t have and pushing the responsibility to pay for it onto our children. Of course, your conscience — and your Constitution — might not be strong enough for Spenditol. If you have debt that last longer that four generations, see your Tea Party activists immediately:

Maybe what we need is a few more migraines in Congress to cure Spenditol, eh?

CWA will air this ad on television in four states: Florida, Montana, Nebraska, and Ohio.  These states have key Senate races in 2012, which conservatives would like to frame as a referendum on spending and debt, much the way they successfully did in 2010′s midterms.  The ads will also run on the national cable news outlets.  That’s a pretty impressive commitment (especially for a 60-second spot as opposed to a 30-second spot), but then again, this particular ad is impressively written and produced, too.

Blowback

That actress couldn’t have been more perfect. The whole thing is fantastic.

What the video doesn’t tell you, though, is that it’s actually a suppository.

There are already ads in Ohio against Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH). I don’t understand how he was elected in the first place. The ads say he’s spending our grandkids’ money. And to call him and say stop it.

Paul-Cincy on July 21, 2011 at 2:17 PM

This ad is hilarious! I’m glad to see conservatives getting into some clever “branding” of the message.

Brilliant!

But unless the producers buy significant slots of prime time TV ad time, it will be limited to the right side of the inter-tubes, and have little impact on the majority of actual voters. Or at least the actual voters who’re still employed.

Good beginning…

Now they should start making 20 second spots… because not a single brainwashed liberal adult < 55 yrs-old has the attention span that is greater than a 5th-grader's.

Obama and Dems tax and spend remedy needs a new prescription I propose electing a new medical team and head surgeon in 2012. I want a new drug.

A matter of common sense for conservatives but better place some nanny state warnings and hideous pictures on the side of the box to advise Dems and progs.

canditaylor68 on July 21, 2011 at 2:57 PM

That was a great ending. The woman nods at her kids and laughs while saying “now it’s their problem”.

It’s funny because it’s true and laughing feels better than crying.

Couldn’t we just rerun the “thatsa some-a spicy meataball” Alka Seltzer commercial?

Shy Guy on July 21, 2011 at 3:01 PM

Best ad yet. Hope they have enough funds to play it every where.

Anybody doubt that thousands of Medicaid patients will be calling their doctors trying to see if they can get a few packs of Spenditol for themselves?

It’s a funny ad, but I’m afraid it’s going to go over the heads of millions of (Obama) voters.

Axeman on July 21, 2011 at 3:18 PM

They should also target Michigan. Democrat Debbie Stabenow might end up with a strong R challenger in 2012. Former long term Congressman Pete Hoekstra from the Michigan Lake side of the state made the news yesterday that he has decided to run for the Senate, after being encouraged by many supporters. He won’t be a squish and he has a chance to win a state wide election since he got more name recognition in the governor primary in 2010. Stabenow has voted lock step with the far left progressive agenda since she stepped foot in her Senate office in 2000. She was swept into office during that “year of the woman” sweep.

Our other Senator, Levin, has been in office so long that he won’t leave until it is feet first. He is an entrenched lib from the Detroit area.

The best part of this commercial is that it highlights the gaping void left by all the “mainstream” comedy series. For example, if Saturday Night Live were truly ‘hip’ and ‘smart’ they would have thought of this by now.

SNL and the old geezers Leno and Letterboy will never come up with any comedy that doesn’t serve the cause of the democratic party.

Facebook, emails, etc.

Let’s get the word out.

This is a GREAT non-partisan ad that could appeal to the “they are spending too much” demographic out there.

LOL…outstanding!

Interesting in that this fiscal responsibility message comes from a mainly pro-life organization.

Perhaps the GOP will take note and learn how to make great political ads like this? Naaaaw.

Saw this last night on Fox (O’Reilly or Hannity). Great ad. Finally some creativity on the right. Going on my Facebook page today!
