Video: The inevitable RNC “We’re looking to raise taxes in 2013″ ad
posted at 9:30 am on July 20, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
As I wrote last week in the OOTD series, no one should be surprised to see the RNC feature Barack Obama’s explanation of tax increases he demands as part of the deal to solve the debt-ceiling issue. If anything, I’m surprised it took the RNC nine days to put Obama’s promise of second-term tax hikes into a new campaign ad. “Change Direction 3″ features Obama’s answer at the second debt-ceiling press conference as its centerpiece:
According to a source at the RNC, this ad will run in the interior West states of New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada, starting today. Obama claimed that territory in 2008, and Republicans didn’t have too much success in 2010 in Colorado and Nevada. The RNC probably wants to start softening the ground now for a big push in 2012. This ad might do well in the Rust Belt states, too, especially Pennsylvania and Indiana. But if voters in those states don’t see this particular ad, they shouldn’t feel left out. Expect the Republican Party and the eventual presidential nominee to highlight Obama’s promise to raise taxes in his second term repeatedly — and effectively.

Every time I hear his voice I have the urge to evacuate my alimentary canal from both ends.

So it’s gonna be on TV? Wow.

If the republicans can’t sell this message to a bankrupt nation, then we will deserve the loss of our nation to the socialist cancer that is spreading at an alarming rate. Obama will have won and our nation will have lost.

This IS the exact time to run ads.

How about this for a slogan: Obama – you can’t spell failure without U-R-A!

Little did his moderate supporters know, Obama’s only problem with President Bush was that Bush wasn’t spending enough on government projects and auto manufacturing.

I don’t understand why it takes Reoublicans so fricking long to respond, and then when they do it’s weaker than sh*t.
Democrats are pounding us every 3rd commercial on every network (Fox News included). (we’re killing medicare & social security)…
Do they (dems) have that much more money than us? Or just more ball* and brains??
Tim Zank on July 20, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Do they really want to change direction or just change the conductors on the train to hell?

Not much point in criticising tax increases when the GOP just passed a bill that promises to increase the national debt by a minimum of $12 trillion over the next decade.
Vashta.Nerada on July 20, 2011 at 9:50 AM
That’s not accurate he’s looking to raise taxes right now. What do people think the 1 trillion in raised revenue is, in the Gang of 6′s plan?
Dr Evil on July 20, 2011 at 9:50 AM
How useful will such an ad be if the GOP accepts a debt ceiling deal that raises taxes?
I’m just sayin’…

It was a nobrainer not to use the 2013 excrement.Leave him alone and just use his asinine words in ads.
ohiobabe on July 20, 2011 at 9:53 AM
They try to compensate for insipid and non-confrontational public performances with slick over-produced ads. It’s a lost party — far too psychologically conditioned into inferiority to ever recover on its own. That is, it can only be saved by a radical presidential candidate who torqs it in a new direction and utterly revamps it (it will only go kicking and screaming).

Agree completely! Why are they such wimps? Why do they want to reach across the aisle to people who are destroying the country? There must be something in the air in DC that changes rational people into mush.
(As an aside, was reading Scripture this morning where godly king Jehoshaphat allies himself with evil king Ahab. Ahab convinces Jehoshaphat to wear his royal robes to battle while Ahab disguises himself, leaving only Jehoshaphat to be the target of the enemy. And Jehoshaphat agreed!! Couldn’t help but think of Coburn.)
Christian Conservative on July 20, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Hey, maybe the Oklahoma GOP can use this ad during their recall campaign against Coburn.

Kiss the mortgage interest deduction goodbye thanks to our gang of 6 or 7. Their proposal also includes 3 tax brackets as part of the reform of the tax code. Actually it will be 4 since some don’t pay taxes at all. Sen. Hatch gave the best reason for reelecting him next year was due to his seniority. Why do we suffer these fools?
Kissmygrits on July 20, 2011 at 10:15 AM
I saw that they had three tax brackets, but each of those three had a percentage range. Makes no sense.
slickwillie2001 on July 20, 2011 at 10:41 AM
I’m afraid this will probably backfire, since I’ve heard 110% of people polled want to pay higher taxes.
BlueCollarAstronaut on July 20, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Saying “$14 trillion in national debt” by itself doesn’t mean anything to people.
This is a 30% increase. This is $129,000 per taxpayer. This will hit home.
faraway on July 20, 2011 at 11:18 AM
With 6% of the 1 trillion dollar stimulus bill going to create jobs, allegedly, where do you thing some of the rest of our money went? Filling democrat coffers for the 2012 election?
dthorny on July 20, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Ed, you headline makes it seem as if it’s the RNC saying that it’s looking to raise taxes in 2013.

I’ll bet a lot of viewers won’t realize that 2013 is the start of Obama’s desired second term. There was plenty of time (1.5 seconds) to explain that.
