Obamas heading to Blue Heron Farm?
posted at 4:10 pm on July 19, 2011 by Jazz Shaw
At the Boston Herald, Margery Eagan finds herself in a bit of a snit over the President’s plans for a summer vacation. Adding to her displeasure is the planned destination for this getaway package.
I love my summer vacation. I like President Obama more than most of you.
But a new Marist Poll says that for the first time ever a majority of American adults — 55 percent — will not be booking a summer vacation this year. They’re too worried about jobs and money. The “Staycation” of 2009 has morphed into the “Naycation” of 2011.
But Obama, who’s got us panicked over this debt-ceiling stalemate, will soon be off — again — to Blue Heron Farm, Martha’s Vineyard. Check out the pictures of this “farm” online. You practically drool. It looks like the centerfold of “Town & Country,” the magazine for aspiring zillionaires.
But unless Obama fixes this fiscal disaster — now — he can’t go. He should have a staycay like the rest of us.
Before we go any further, props to Ms. Eagan for coining, “naycation.” I like that one.
Believe it or not, I’ve pretty much gotten over the impulse to criticize presidents when they go on vacation. The usual caveats apply about how the White House travels with the president, he’s in constant contact with his advisers, getting daily briefings and such. The optics are never really very good for a president get away, but everyone needs a break from time to time. And even if ABC is commenting on the outrageous price tag of this particular package, it’s never cheap to haul the Secret Service around.
In this case, however, it might be time to make an exception because Obama’s frequently stated top priority actually involves having him “in the room.” Let’s take a look at a few of his recent statements.
He’s already said that he would be “meeting every day” with congressional leaders until this debt ceiling impasse is resolved. His team has been scolding Republicans for “walking out of the room” when there is still work to be done. And we’ve been assured that he’s not leading from behind on this one, but is taking charge of the situation.
I would say that this is hardly the time to even be considering heading out of town. If you want to plan a trip for the wife and kids, fine. No problem. But Margery Eagan is on to something here. If you want to go on vacation, get your work done first. Hey, at least you have a job. (At least for another seventeen months, anyway.) This vacation should skip straight past staycation and turn into a naycation like so many of the rest of us until this mess is straightened out.

He’ll have all the time he wants on his ‘permanent’ vacation in 2012.

He should at least look into getting Camp David into the same time-share pool as Blue Heron Farm, so he could just swap days instead of paying full retail.

By ‘staycation’, I thought she meant he should go to the island and stay there.

Need a break then try going fishing up in northern Minnesota, rent a nice aluminum boat from a small resort and spend some quiet time working the bays.
But no no, not the Mooch Family, they need the best of everything all the time, no expenses spared and nothing is too good for their desires.

I realize this fool is turning 50 and I realize this fool only thinks of himself.
But even the die hard Obots are having trouble with this show of the good life. That part is funny. The part that is not so funny is that the king is threatening to withold money people buy food with, yet he is headed not only on vacation but to a birthday bash at mega bucks per plate. How does one do this without their conscience hurting a little? Answer: not possible, must be no conscience.

Supposedly he and the family don’t at all care for Camp David. Too “rustic”. They visited Camp David something like 9 times in 2009, but in all the time since then have only been back 8 more times, for a total of 17 visits there in 30 months. The evil Bush, on the other hand, had by the same point in his Presidency visited Camp David 62 times.
Elitist.

It’s not so much that he takes a vacation, or even that he plays so much golf. The problem I have is that he’s such an arrogant hypocrite, asking others to stay in DC and get the job done, whining about people who use corporate jets, talking about the sacrifices everyone is going to have to make, saying that creating jobs is his top priority…then off he goes on these extravagant trips that we get to pay for. What a d**k.

Yep, look at the leadership qualities his spokesman is trumpeting for him…
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2011/07/when-would-you-announce-support-for-the-gang-of-six-plan-and-wheres-the-presidents-plan-todays-qs-fo.html
Making a plan, proposing it, taking action, trying to get stuff done… that’s not leadership. Leadership is NOT proposing a plan now…
Leadership is having everyone else do the heavy lifting, casting whatever direction the wind blows, and eventually claiming victory with whatever answer falls into your lap. Only by following whatever other people do can you be a great leader.
Might as well let him go on vacation, it’s not like he’s going to be doing anything of any value in D.C… that wouldn’t be “leadership”.
We need to wait for those “non-leaders” who actually make plans and proposals and try to get votes and have real tangible numbers and ideas not just vague platitudes… vague platitudes and no plan or proposal or work is how you tell who is a “real leader” like Obama.
/Orwellian definitions of “leadership”

The most important thing from the view of the Obama White House is that it is a location that the press approves of.
Part of the press’s undying hatred of GWB was because he made them follow him to Crawford Texas. No fine dining, no good hotels, no nightlife and no chance of running into any “beautiful people”. GWB never treated them with the deference they thought they deserved.
Obama doesn’t treat them well either. But he goes to places where they can pretend they matter.
Martha’s Vineyard is chock full of rich, powerful people. Just the kind that the champions of the ‘little people’ like to rub elbows with.

This president and First Lady take the cake [while they let us eat it--literally and figuratively] for lavish and expensive vacations on the public’s dime. I think the last report I read noted EIGHT such vacations during their time in office!
It’s truly sickening.
And, from my viewpoint, Obama’s scolding Congress to get to work, just so he can get it all taken care of for the explicit purpose of GETTING AWAY TO HIS VACATION at Blue Heron Farm! He’s the most self-absorbed narcissistic egotist I’ve ever seen.
But for those who think he’s going permanently on vacation after Nov. 2012, you’d better take your reality pill. If Michelle Bachmann is the nominee for the GOP, Obama will be spending a boatload more of your money to go to lavish and expensive personal vacations for 4 more years.
