First. Thanks for the poll. Look forward to each one.

AH_C on July 17, 2011 at 7:05 PM

Yes, thanks again for another poll. They’re always illuminating.

SlaveDog on July 17, 2011 at 7:07 PM

Patrick, I appreciate all the work you put into this.

katy the mean old lady on July 17, 2011 at 7:07 PM

Perry or Ryan. The rest aren’t even close.

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 7:09 PM

Perry or Ryan. The rest aren’t even close.

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 7:09 PM

You’re probably right. But until they actually declare . . .

LastRick on July 17, 2011 at 7:11 PM

Love these posts.

The results of the Perry/Palin question should be good for a 700+ response thread.

gophergirl on July 17, 2011 at 7:11 PM

Sarah/Rick.

portlandon on July 17, 2011 at 7:12 PM

Perry or Ryan. The rest aren’t even close.

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 7:09 PM

Why not?

predator on July 17, 2011 at 7:13 PM

LastRick on July 17, 2011 at 7:11 PM

Yeah, and Paul Ryan is not running.

But I really think the Rickster is.

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 7:13 PM

What would’ve been an interesting question is for people to rate the likelihood of Perry, Palin, Giuliani, Pataki etc of getting into the race

IR-MN on July 17, 2011 at 7:19 PM

Done and done.

Jeddite on July 17, 2011 at 7:20 PM

Why the rino picture?

the_nile on July 17, 2011 at 7:22 PM

I have been very impressed with Bachmann, but I still don’t think she can win. I also like Perry, but he would have a tough time winning independants. So, I am still sold on Romney being the best candidate to beat Obama. He has the money; he has the ability to articulate a strong rebuke of Obama; and he is a tougher campaigner than most people know. I would like to see a Romney/Perry ticket-that would be tough for Obama to beat.

RedSoxNation on July 17, 2011 at 7:34 PM

My primary concern with Romney is that he may be a little too much like Hoover when we really need a Calvin Coolidge.

RedSoxNation on July 17, 2011 at 7:35 PM

ABO – Anybody but Obama. I want the most conservative candidate that can win.

PatMac on July 17, 2011 at 7:36 PM

Where is ‘Generic Republican’? He’s the winner.

faraway on July 17, 2011 at 7:43 PM

Pawlenty has the proven record of winning on a Blue state while
governing as a conservative to a much larger degree than even Perry. Also, how is it Chris Christie was left out, he’s Bo less running than Paul Ryan.

SuperBunny on July 17, 2011 at 7:43 PM

Why do you think Perry would have a hard time with Indies?

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 7:44 PM

Also, I wonder how the results would change if filtered to only include the first primary states. Living in Georgia, I am getting used to voting for whoever the rest of you choose for us.

slickwillie2001 on July 17, 2011 at 7:46 PM

Actually if the choice were narrowed down to Qadaffi vs. Obama, I would choose Qadaffi.

MaiDee on July 17, 2011 at 7:52 PM

Thanks, Patrick! Look forward to the results.

+1 for Huntsman/Johnson

ernesto on July 17, 2011 at 7:57 PM

Perry said he would not run for president. Perry said he would fix the border. Perry did not want to be president. He just thinks he can get the nomination now. This Texan will NOT vote for him.

derft on July 17, 2011 at 8:03 PM

Romney may indeed be the most likely to beat Obama. I’m still not touching him with a ten-foot electoral pole, no matter how well he does in the polls.

gryphon202 on July 17, 2011 at 8:06 PM

Perry would have a hard time with indies because the media/left would paint him as another Texas cowboy. This is why TPaw is a good candidate. He has real conservative bona fides (unlike Romney) but doesn’t have the scary Republican boogy man thing going on. This hy the media has tried to burry him a boring, when in fact he is a very Eubanks speaker who can wax eloquently about conservative values and ye American dream without a TelePrompTer.

SuperBunny on July 17, 2011 at 8:09 PM

Damn iPhone auto spell corrector making nonsense of my brilliant posts ;)

SuperBunny on July 17, 2011 at 8:10 PM

Perry would have a hard time with indies because the media/left would paint him as another Texas cowboy.

I think by the time 2012 rolls around, the running against Bush strategy will have fully expired in terms of effectiveness.

Also, as a former Democrat, Perry would have a better chance of pulling the “Reagan Democrat” flavored folks than generic Republicans (this assuming he gets into the general).

It’ll be interesting to see, but to me Perry has proven campaign chops in a state that has very bare-knuckled political campaigns, he has no qualms about attacking Obama and the Federal over-reach, and he can run on job creation.

Y-not on July 17, 2011 at 8:19 PM

I may have only been here(TX) 3 1/2 months-but I’m still a TEXAN…and I WILL vote for him.

annoyinglittletwerp on July 17, 2011 at 8:24 PM

Patrick, I know I have asked you this before, but please consider adding a “who would you like to sit out the race” question. I think the results would be fascinating when analyzed alongside who the respondant’s first choice for pres is.

Kataklysmic on July 17, 2011 at 8:25 PM

7: Palin
6: Bachmann, Perry, Ron Paul
4: Everyone else, except. . .
1: Huntsman, Romney

Do I make myself clear?

Emperor Norton on July 17, 2011 at 8:30 PM

Thanks for your tireless work on these polls, Patrick. I’ve come to really look forward to these.

Obviuosly tort reform and job creation mean nothing. Who WILL you be voting for, fellow Texan? Obama?

I’m for the Jeb BUSH / Liz CHENEY ticket.

Dunno if google provides any tools but it’s simple enough to put a session key in the form … or use a cookie (but cookies are more visible). You can always clear it or use multiple browsers.

Besides, it’s the internet and I’m a duck.

Marcus on July 17, 2011 at 8:36 PM

Sure they do. Are you saying Perry is the only candidate that will create jobs and is for tort reform? Get real. I voted for Perry because of his stance on the border. As soon as he got elected he did a 180. And yes twerp I will vote for SP.

katy the mean old lady on July 17, 2011 at 8:59 PM

I think that twerp was guessing the answer that another poster might give, rather than her own choice.

That said, twerp has said (early and often! – like the good Illini she used to be,) that she’d support, and vote for, the eventual nominee of the Republican party.

katy the mean old lady on July 18, 2011 at 12:26 AM

Bachmann gets the nod from me because she is on the field, advancing the ball. Perry and Palin, though I like them both, lose points with me because they are hanging back, creating uncertainty and hurting the rest of the field. In or out, boys. Either declare and get down into the mud, or remove yourself from the field, like Christie has done.

Too late. I already did.

Perry/Bachmann 2012. I can see victory from my front porch.

NickDeringer on July 18, 2011 at 8:14 AM

Perry and Palin, though I like them both, lose points with me because they are hanging back, creating uncertainty and hurting saving their energy and their money by waiting for the rest of the field to get vetted by the press/public. In or out, boys.

FTFY.

Perry and Palin are politically savvy – you keep your powder dry and don’t use it all up at the beginning of the battle. Let the rest of the field get winnowed down, then you know who your REAL competition is. Save your money and volunteers for the long haul. The election isn’t for another 16 months, and the last few months are the most crucial.

In the past, most presidential campaigns didn’t start until AFTER Labor Day of the year before the election. In 2008, the Republicans found out they started out WAY too early, and none of them had money or volunteers when it really counted….

TeresainFortWorth on July 18, 2011 at 9:17 AM

Voted. BTW, Patrick, I got an “error” message the first time & retried, so if you get two “Palin” votes from 47905 just preceding the time of this comment, you know what to do with one of the duplicates…
