Chris Matthews: Why, these Republicans are basically economic terrorists, aren’t they?

posted at 7:15 pm on July 5, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite. Lest you miss his point, in another segment of today’s show he described the GOP as “the Wahhabis of American government.” Expect lottttts more like this as the debt-ceiling clock ticks down, even though Republicans like Cornyn are already floating the possibility of a short-term deal to avert a crisis. In fact, Richard Cohen will see your terrorist analogy and raise you a death cult:

Someone ought to study the Republican Party. I am not referring to yet another political scientist but to a mental health professional, preferably a specialist in the power of fixations, obsessions and the like. The GOP needs an intervention. It has become a cult…

Not every GOP candidate adheres to all of these cockamamie beliefs. Mitt Romney has not signed the antiabortion pledge (he has some quibbles), and in the Senate, Tom Coburn has broken with Norquist about raising revenue. But the net effect is to establish an intellectual barrier for admittance to the presidential race: Independent thinkers, stop right here! If you believe in global warming, revenue enhancement, stimulus programs, the occasional need for abortion or even the fabulist theories of the late Charles Darwin, then either stay home — or lie.

This intellectual rigidity has produced a GOP presidential field that’s a virtual political Jonestown. The Grand Old Party, so named when it really did evoke America, has so narrowed its base that it has become a political cult. It is a redoubt of certainty over reason and in itself significantly responsible for the government deficit that matters most: leadership. That we can’t borrow from China.

$14 trillion in debt and counting, with Obama having chosen his own electoral viability over a serious entitlement reform package that would obviate the need for future debt-ceiling standoffs, and yet somehow it’s Romney and Pawlenty who are the Jim Joneses in this guy’s universe. Perfect. Exit question: Now that he’s dealing with “terrorists,” does that mean The One can use extrajudicial procedures to take ‘em out?

Fixed it for that ‘intellectual’ turkey.

On Obama getting away with it, sure, he gets away with anything, until Nov. 2012. If he wins, it will be hell, if he loses it will be too.

Chrissy, all the Dems have to do is make meaningful spending cuts and there could be a deal. What do you expect from a party that has had total control of all branches of government and refuses to do their constitutional job and pass a budget. Chickens are coming home to roost and you deserve everything you’re going to get.

The federal goverment is expected to bring in $176 Billion in the month of August. The interest on the debt owed in August is $26 Billion. Call your senator, and representative and make it clear you want no deal on deby ceiling. There must balance budget admendment passing congress by 2/3 majority and the president must sign it. Otherwise let them pay the interest with incoming receipts, and let them cut the difference in ordinary spending.

“Republicans are nuts”; it’s this week’s talking point: for Richard Cohen, a death cult; for Matthews, terrorists; for David Brooks, a psychological protest; for Fareed Zakaria, a religious dogmaticism. Give them credit for variety in analogies, at least.

MSNBC Spreads!~

I was watching CNBC for a friend’s Money in Motion plays when the current budget impasse came up.

Now I have heard that network praised hereabouts. I am talking about CNBC.

Wow. They went full bore into the meme of Brooks, “the Taliban” and the other WH talking points on the Republican terrorists. They even stooped to smack poor Newt since he urged no compromise with the Dems on this issue as he did in 1994. Trying to revive his moribund campaign, they concluded.

They did not mention the result of Newt’s terrorism in 1994.

I have a tirade of flip remarks about Bill C’s sex problem and the fact that Newt and Dick Morris got this economy on the right track with a shutdown in 1994. It is mildly funny.

Sadly, I am too sick of the lefty propaganda to make jokes. Good old GE.

Tim Zank on July 5, 2011 at 7:59 PM

Matthews and others on the left completely ignore the fact that there are several Democrats who vote along fiscal conservative lines and even social conservative lines, depending on the composition of their constituents. Liberals would do just as well to spank their own guys until they voted accordingly. Instead, they choose to demonize those of us who happen to disagree with their preference of fiscal irresponsibility and induced dependency. If anyone needs to be “studied”, it’s those who insist upon pushing the country to the brink of self-destruction, always aware that the conservatives will correct things just in time to avoid the complete extinction of our way of life. It reminds me of women who bump chests with men and taunt them, knowing reciprocation is either unlikely or indefensible. Or how about teen-agers who break the law, knowing they’ll be treated with kid gloves and picked up by mommy. The epitome of cowardice, in all cases.

Rugged Individual on July 5, 2011 at 8:01 PM

I wonder why Chris Matthews saying outrageous things is news here. I read last week that he averages 500,000 viewers a night.

In comparison, Angie Harmon’s new detective show on TNT called ‘Rizzoli and Isles’ draws 7.6 million viewers. I haven’t watched either show, but it doesn’t seem like this is significant news in the big scheme of things.

Conservatives need to harp on this. “Why on earth did the Dems fail to pass a budget in the 111th when they controlled all 3 branches of the government?”

The answers to that question will reveal to all what the Dems already know – they didn’t want people to see the impact of their spending, and especially the financial impact of Obamacare.

Republican politicians, talking heads, and the rest of us simply need to repeat the same questions to all Liberal media heads and politicians for the next several months/years…

1> Texas & North Dakota are creating jobs and have stable economies; these two states are leading the nation.
2> New Jersey, Louisiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana are now showing signs of economic recovery; job creation and stabilization of their economies is taking place.
3> All of these states mentioned are all governed by Republicans.
4> Name one state that is currently governed by Democrats that can be mentioned as success stories.
5> The facts all indicate that Democrat governed states are in horrible shape in every economic category; not so much with Republican run states.

End of conversation…

The Democrats are like political Jivaros, you know, because they shrink their heads down to a shrivelled political minimum and then worship the desiccated results.

Or maybe they’re like ideological maggots who feed on the decay of rotten belief systems that have failed in real-world tests.

Or like tapeworms that parasitize their healthier neighbors for government freebies.

Anyone can play at the demomization and dehumanization game, Chrissy.
