Quit being a party guy, President Obama, says … Evan Thomas?
posted at 4:00 pm on July 3, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
So much for being “sort of God.” In this week’s press conference, Barack Obama blamed eeeeeeeeeeevil corporate jet owners and oil companies for the federal budget deficit in an attempt to play class-warfare games to fire up the base. Former High Priest of ObamaMania Evan Thomas (who also sidelines as a Newsweek editor) became an apostate by noting that demagoguery wastes time and makes it harder to find solutions. Thomas “applaud[s] the energy,” but wonders when Obama will start presidenting instead of being a party hack:
On “Inside Washington,” host Gordon Peterson asked his panel to suggest a way to overcome the current impasse and get Congress and the White House moving on a budget deal. Thomas offered up a solution, but also expressed his frustration with Obama.
“Yeah, because it’s happened before – Obama has got to be President of the United States,” Thomas said. “He has to be two things. He has to make a public case of how bad is this, because he is not doing that. He’s not being honest about just how bad this is going to be — no, he was partisan. He was God [bleep] Democrat! He was just, you know – being a party guy. I applaud the energy but it wasn’t getting me anywhere. He has got to rise above that and then in private, in private – he’s got to make a deal.”
Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer’s sentiments fell in line with Thomas’s.
“Instead of saying, as a president ought to say, is that we have a problem — it is a serious problem, it’s a growing problem, it’s a structural problem and we have to do something, he says, as in the sound bite you showed, it is a choice between helping the elderly on Medicare and corporate jets and oil tax breaks,” Krauthammer added. “That is pure demagoguery and that is not leadership.”
When acolytes start tossing criticisms instead of hosannas, I’d say we have consensus. Barack Obama … uniter?

Well here’s a little July 4th cheer…turns out that banks are forgiving mortgage debt even without foreclosure.
The mortgage lending bubble has ended very badly, especially for those who tend to save instead of borrow. Savers have to suffer zirp for years and years to “repair” the banks balance sheet (i.e. make the banks whole again). Yes, that is the only game in town. No haircut for the banks…but yes for higher taxes and zero interest rates for the next five or ten years. I’m sure the banks will reward barry well in 2012

Say what what you will about Obama. His rhetoric worked. The GOP has caved, per Drudge.
Republicans would accept a “mini” deal with the Obama administration on raising the debt limit, Senator John Cornyn of Texas, a Republican leader, said.
Cornyn said today on “Fox News Sunday” that while Republicans would prefer a long-term settlement, they would accept a shorter-term agreement if that’s all they could get done. The U.S. Treasury Department has projected that on Aug. 2 the U.S. will no longer be able to meet obligations if the legal debt ceiling isn’t raised.
I thought they’d at least pretend to have a backbone for another week or two before folding.

Wow, Obama is a shameless demagogue and a partisan hack? Who knew?
Gee, Evan, if only there’d been some clue that Obama wasn’t the post-partisan, post-racial, super-competent executive with the marvelous temperament that all you MSM types assured the voters he was back in 2008. You know, something like his entire life history.
Obama was never anything more than a partisan hack during his years in both the Illinois Senate and in the U.S. Senate. The only time Obama was ever in anything remotely like an executive role — when he was giving away other peoples’ money as head of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge — resulted in a total failure to achieve any of the objectives of the fund. And in his personal life, Obama spent more than 20 years as an acolyte of the racist demagogue Jeremiah Wright (“God damn Amerikkkka! White man’s greed runs a world in need! It’s all whitey’s fault!”).
But anybody who tried to point these things out in 2008 was slandered as a racist and/or a fool by people like Evan Thomas. Must suck to have to admit now that the bitter clingers were right about Obama all along, eh Evan?

They’re being cut off from “inside” information, snubbed by the administration, not invited to cocktail parties, something along those lines. They support his socialist policies, but they’ve got their panties in a wad about something else, and I think it’s a personal grudge against Obama. They’re just using the “party hack” line as an excuse to rail against him. They know he’s a party hack and they’ve known it all along. They have no problem with it.

Obama does not know how to lead nor does he want to lead. He refused to lead in 2009 when notified by Medicare Trustees that there was a projected shortfall in Social Security. By law, he is required to present a proposal for Social Security solvency when a shortfall is reported. He chose not to lead on this. The following year he failed to respond to the same trustee report, and this year, 2011, he again failed to present a proposal as required by law. Three years in a row on an essential program for seniors, and the President failed to act. This one example shows a gross deficiency in leadership. Only the Republicans, through Paul Ryan and the House of Representatives, have presented a proposal to keep Social Security solvent. Obama hasn’t even voted present on this issue. For more than 390 days now, the Obamacrat led Senate has failed to pass a budget as required by law. The President has presented a budget this year that no one considered to be serious. It received zero votes in the Senate. Obama is a joke of a leader, a joke of a President and a joke of a candidate for reelection.
stefano1 on July 3, 2011 at 7:35 PM
I’m sort of with you, but I don’t think it’s the cocktail parties per se. Obama was supposed to be cool, rational, intelligent, smooth, &c and he’s coming off as a real fool. Maybe there’s a want to distance oneself from him to preserve the true meaning of socialism or something. I don’t know.
MeatHeadinCA on July 3, 2011 at 7:36 PM

I don’t think that he is a party hack for the Dems though. He has not had their backs on a lot of issues and has been discarding those who do not serve his purposes. ObaMao is self-serving, and the only “party” that he serves is a brand of communism, whether Marxist or Maoist, it is hard to tell. His buddy Ayers claimed to champion Maoist philosophy. The Left has allied itself with Islam, so ObaMao’s foreign policy is becoming clearer each day.

Why are Democrats so angry with Obama?
June 9 2011
************
*************
Is it because Obama hung them all out to dry when they needed him the most?
The following was written by one of Obama’s staffers:
*****************************************************
“We were led to believe this man was one thing, but everything I have seen, heard, and understand, points to the indisputable fact he is not what we hoped for. Not what we were promised. Maybe he might have been. Maybe a full term or two in the Senate and he would have had the experience and maturity to handle the job of President of the United States. But right now – the man is simply not up to the task, and yet it is loyal Democrats who are paying the price for his incompetence and incoherence. The health care bill? Do you know I was told he has never read the bill? Not one part of it? NOT ONE. Sounds like something you would hear on one of the talk radio shows, right? And I wouldn’t normally consider such a possibility, but this came directly from one of those good Democrats who might now see their political careers ended because they supported that bill and now its being used against them like some political sledgehammer. How is that supposed to make someone who put their career on the line feel? Betrayed. A whole lot of us are feeling betrayed these days and it just pisses me off.”
“There were some who voiced concerns. Some who pushed for a more clear economic agenda. Apparently Obama wanted none of it – he was obsessed, absolutely obsessed with getting some kind of healthcare legislation. And the ones who did voice concerns…they are, or will be, among the first to go. And it’s coming sooner rather than later.”
“Democrats need to rise up within the party and say enough is enough. We have allowed ourselves to be carried far too far to the left of the mainstream. You know what word I cannot stand? Progressive. Enough with this “progressive” crap. Shut up about it. We are Democrats. Anyone who wants to call themselves a Progressive I say show them the door – they are doing nothing but killing the Democratic Party. And regardless of whether or not we survive the November midterms with a majority, Nancy Pelosi must step down or be removed as Speaker. That is an absolute must – I cannot emphasize that point enough. She is political poison on the national level. Second, President Obama must fully engage himself with the requirements of the job. He must surround himself with people who understand the tone and temperament of the country because he clearly does not. And if he can’t or won’t do this, he needs to not run for reelection in 2012.
“…if he [Obama] does not fully engage in the job of president. If he does not even begin to live up to his own potential…Democrats must take measures to provide an alternative in 2012. The country simply cannot afford another second Obama term like these first two years. It is simply too difficult a time for America to have the Democratic Party act so irresponsibly.”
“My ties to the 2008 Obama campaign feel more and more these days like a dishonorable victory.”
“All kinds of news is going to be coming surrounding the Obama White House and the Democrat leadership. Watch for Pelosi in particular. That will be the key when you know the door is getting kicked open and the truth of just how chaotic things have become gets out into the open. I will say it again – Pelosi is the key. It is going to be ugly for Democrats, but people need to keep the faith. The party will emerge from this – and hopefully in time for 2012.”
Nancy Pelosi is the key…

Just thinking about what is happening to the koolade soaked left…
-
They have got to be disheartened that even with all the cover they gave Barry (and they absolutely do know that they made criticizing him nearly impossible for the past 3 years), his efforts to lead are going insanely bad.
-
Some of them, the ones who never really had ‘tingles’ over him but rather thought his presidency could bring a solid surge to the left for the country, and then a recovery of sorts… they have got to be realizing that they’ve been had. They have got to be wakening to the fact that with Barry… It‘s all about Barry, and eventually… that Barry does not like America… AT ALL.
-
Even though the class “A” holes that I’m referring to want a surge to the left, most of them want some semblance of a recovered America to be there when we arrive… Barry does not. He is the destroyer… His mission has but a single goal; to ruin America’s greatness.
-
As the once faithful begin calling him out… it will not be for the real reasons he should be call out. It will be for lame ass things like being a party guy. Well duh… They will not dare say what I have stated here… They will not admit that he obviously does not care about America’s plight.
-
Even as they begin to suspect it, even as they find themselves losing sleep over the loss of our country to president who never should have been elected… to the least qualified man to ever be president…they will wimp out in how they say it.
-
Calling him a ‘dick’ when the 7 second delay is supposed provide cover is not stepping up to the truth. It is wussing out and attempting to lie by omission.
-
Unless they also add a statement to the effect that Barry is killing this country… their little whining confessions only have value in that they expose the left’s willingness to be bullied by Barry and his zombie gangsters.
-

Obama’s presidency is turning out to be just like the movie “Being There”. Obama is Chauncey Gardener! In the movie all the elite and the media, they are not the same group, made every mistake he uttered to be some kind of genius comment and every flub of speech a sign that he is so smart that his brain is too fast for his mouth (This was actually stated by a lefty commentator). When GWB was president everything he did or said was derided by these same two groups as a sign of how stupid he was even though many of his acts were sincere and effective. Compare that era with the present and you will see how absurd these people truly are.

Not exactly Marxist, not exactly Maoist. Trotskyite is a more precise assignment.
Obama can only be called a “party” man insomuch as he demonizes the opposition party. He carries no water for the Democrat party, only himself and his personal philosophy, which is power through dependency and division. While that has always been the logical end of most liberal stances on issues, I give many the benefit of the doubt on it being their goal. Most are just ignorant enough to think it the more noble path to utopia. Obama knows what he’s after, and how he plans to get there, and bus treads over the back of anyone from either aisle who doesn’t climb aboard.

Forget Obama changing his colors. He’s the nation’s first BLUE President. He can no more change his color from blue than he can change his skin color.
What is clearly needed is a Congress, (Courts) and President who are equally Red (main street employers and employees), White (Seniors), and Blue (union workerbees & companies). And scale back on the excessive green crapola so it’s an appropriately sized fringe edging that doesn’t dominate everything Red, White and Blue….
Sadly, most of the GOP Losership doesn’t know how to consistently and repeatedly articulate this sort of simple message… There are some GOP Presidential Candidates who can perhaps make this case, and others who can’t…

All polls show the congress in such a poor light it is hard to tell how toxic Nancy Pelosi is.
Back when I had some friends gaming this mess, the prediction was that Reid and Pelosi would kill The One and this was before all the stimulus and healthcare. I posited a disconnect between their MO and goals and his campaign’s blue skies. My friends weren’t that polished.
They just saw a pile of very hungry hacks and a lazy, inexperienced leader.
