Video: NRSC uses Obama’s own words in new ad

posted at 11:00 am on July 1, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Jim Geraghty calls this the “Chuck Norris of party committee created web videos,” and it’s difficult to disagree. The NRSC simply puts together Barack Obama’s words on leadership from his press conference and matches them with visual evidence that refutes his claim that “I’ve been here” while the budget crisis continues. He’s been everywhere but “here,” and the graphic that shows 149 fundraisers is especially damaging:

That will leave a mark, I think, and not just because it shows Obama as being more than a little hypocritical in his “leaders lead” scolding. Unlike other web videos launched by the NRSC, NRCC, and RNC this year, this spot comes in at just over 30 seconds.  With only a slight bit of editing, this ad could easily air on television, perhaps this summer as we approach the debt ceiling deadline set by the White House.  Maybe the NRSC can buy some ad time during weekend golf shows?

Nice! Put it on TV this weekend!

rockmom on July 1, 2011 at 11:05 AM

That is an AWESOME ad. This HAS to go on TV.

Caiwyn on July 1, 2011 at 11:05 AM

I love these ads but they got the golf figure wrong. It’s a mere 75 not 76.

I made a longer version of this ad (and better? Could 10,000 pepes be wrong?) the night of the pressie.

The Obama Press Conference Unplugged

No Niks on July 1, 2011 at 11:06 AM

Combine that with Sen. McConnell’s “invitation” to Obama to meet with Republican Senators, and you’ve got a great ad!

Steve Z on July 1, 2011 at 11:07 AM

They could do much better than that, but still, its at least a good start. I don’t know why this guy is made of teflon. He sure gives us plenty of ammo to work with.

KMC1 on July 1, 2011 at 11:08 AM

EXCELLENT

Need to get this on ALL stations….msdnc will never show it, but who cares

cmsinaz on July 1, 2011 at 11:09 AM

Maybe a video of him talking about those “rich folk” ridin’ around in their jets, with a cost breakdown and some video of his dog getting off his own private vacation flight?

KMC1 on July 1, 2011 at 11:10 AM

Perfect!

ClanDerson on July 1, 2011 at 11:14 AM

Obama is not a bad guy, he is a nice guy. However, he is not presidential material. In order to be an effective president, you need a life experience that to some extent case hardens you to be able to separate the wheat from the chafe and get your mind around common sense aspects of human nature.

By virtue of the fact that Obama wants to bank roll dead beats at the expense of people producing an honest effort tells me that Obama lives in a fantacy land mindset. Human nature has been ubiquitis in the lives of productive people for centuries, and history is clear that if you give a man a fish, he eats today. If you teach a man how to fish, he eats everyday. But, if you teach a man to fish, but he prefers to sleep, he diserves to go hungry.

Obama just can’t get his mind around that common sense reality.

With only a slight bit of editing, this ad could easily air on television, perhaps this summer as we approach the debt ceiling deadline set by the White House.

They’d have to add a disclaimer stating the figures are as of a certain date. The MSM would simply state that the figures in the ad are wrong without ever mentioning that it’s now 84 rounds of golf and 157 fundraisers.

KMC1 on July 1, 2011 at 11:08 AM

With a brown paper bag over my head, I’ll admit that I watched a little of Hannity’s show last night. He spent some time at the end of the show interviewing Dr. Carol Swain, a very pleasant black woman who’s a professor at Vanderbilt. She has a new book titled Be the People. During the interview, she mentioned that in the 2008 campaign and since, she’s had many whites volunteer to her that they were so happy to vote for a black president.

I think that whatever teflon Obama has, it has three sources. First, the hard left may grumble, but they’ll never abandon him. Second, the not-so-hard left is still inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt–especially because he’s black. Third, swing voters or independents who voted for him are likely grumbling about his actions, but they can’t quite pull the trigger on attributing his actions to who he is as a person. It’s white guilt. They still believe that finding fault with an incompetent and hopelessly ideological president who happens to be black
makes them a racist. And they don’t want to think about themselves in that way.

Rubio is calling little Bammie “a left-wing strongman”. I vote for ‘El Presidente’.

I am already seeing ads from the democratics, the “you always hurt the ones you love” crap. Trying to push the old reliable attack that Republicans are going to cut Social Security, Medicare, hospitals, etc, etc. Why not, that propaganda has served them well for decades.

slickwillie2001 on July 1, 2011 at 11:31 AM

Nicely done.

Somebody needs to remind this twerp former constitutional law instructor that the only person elected to LEAD in the United States (federally, that is) is the President. The members of Congress, House and Senate, are elected to REPRESENT THEIR CONSTITUENTS.

Just more of that talking out of both sides of his mouth. What really has Team O scared is the fact that Barry is going to be judged on his record for the very first time in his life……….and it’s nothing to brag about.

KMC1 on July 1, 2011 at 11:08 AM

Remember, Teflon is very prone to scratches. Small sharp tools (like his own words and deeds turned against him) will easily damage the coating. Once damaged, it is not easily renewed, and will prove ultimately useless for its’ original purpose.

massrighty on July 1, 2011 at 12:24 PM

Combine that with Sen. McConnell’s “invitation” to Obama to meet with Republican Senators, and you’ve got a great ad!

Steve Z on July 1, 2011 at 11:07 AM

I think this is a much bigger target. The “leadership” ad is kinda meh. So he took vacations? So he went golfing? So he attends fundraisers? Big deal. There’s really no context for it. Which is pretty much impossible in 30 seconds, so I can’t really fault the ad makers.

But there’s nothing to indicate why these numbers are so bad. How much did President Bush golf? Hardly at all, after OIF. How many fundraisers did he attend? Unkown, but presumably he did his job as the leader of the Republican Party for 8 years. How much vacation time did he take? Way too much, if you buy into the MSM narrative. But we all know that there’s no such thing as a genuine “vacation” while you’re President. The leash is damned short, as I think we’re all aware.

This ad works for political junkies like us. But it won’t, I think, resonate for the GAP. They don’t have enough of a baseline for this ad to have any impact.

I’ve thought for years that political ads need to really be run as an extended education campaign. There needs to be a series of ads that are run repeatedly. They may stand somewhat on their own, but their real impact is as a group. The knowledge and impact that they impart over time adds up to a cohesive whole, a message that builds on itself over time.

It’s probably completely unrealistic to expect a campaign like this. It demands too much audience participation and willingness to engage. Which our political betters, I’m sure, have no faith in. But, we voted these guys into office in the first place, so maybe they’re right….

nukemhill on July 1, 2011 at 12:25 PM

No Niks, that was awesome.

nukemhill on July 1, 2011 at 12:31 PM

They need to also do an ad using the clip where he tells former President Clinton that he “had to go to a party because Michelle was waiting” & to take over the press conference for him. AND THEN THE DID JUST THAT! That was truly one of the most disgraceful things I’ve ever seen a POTUS do & people should be reminded of it.

Dark Star on July 1, 2011 at 12:52 PM

The ad is okay and I’m glad they’re finally making ads hitting at Obama’s failures. But they should have used a comparison with previous presidents to help put his excessive play days in perspective.

Leaders lead, Obama reads…
(bumper-stickers printing soon)

When they asked him if he wanted a brain, he thought they said campaign… the rest is Misery.
-
It was so cute when he forgot his daughter’s age… Missed by 8%…
-
The same amount he promised that unemployment would not go above… so long as we spent $800,000,000,000.
-
He still lives in 2008… Obviously, he thinks he does.
-
He has 8 on the brain… we need to make sure this halfwit only gets 4.

Teflon is only as good as material it is applied to. Sucky base material, sucky Telfon performance. It’ll work good initially, but very quickly it will lose its non-stick properties and eventually peel off. Then, you just get a pan.

BobMbx on July 1, 2011 at 1:49 PM

He was also not going to rest till every one had a job.
When he had no track record, the only thing to criticize was his promises and ideology. Now his track record is a disaster, he will have to turn things around and do it quickly or lose. His only victory was the job creating census. maybe he should re-do the census to make employment appear to recover.

seven on July 1, 2011 at 1:50 PM

this spot comes in at just over 30 seconds. With only a slight bit of editing, this ad could easily air on television,

In present form, the spot’s 39 seconds long. Nine seconds may not seem like much, but it’s 30% – almost a full third – of the commercial. It’ll take more than “only a slight bit of editing” to get it down to :29.5 air length.
