Video: Guy with four kids endorses “fertility management” to save the planet

posted at 5:55 pm on June 22, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart TV and the Daily Caller. At first listen, I thought what he had in mind here was making contraception more freely available in some developing nations where women are expected to have lots of children. “Educate girls and empower women,” he says (but not men?); good advice, and there are lots of places around the world where it’s desperately needed. But if it’s developing nations he’s thinking of, that wouldn’t do much to curb pollution or emissions. It’s the first-world nations that do most of the industrial belching, and needless to say, China doesn’t need any tips on “fertility management.” So I guess he means … American women? Or someone else? Whatever the answer, he clearly means someone other than the Gore family since he and Tipper almost doubled the ol’ replacement rate. But then, for the Goracle, saving the planet has always been mostly a “you first” proposition. At least he’s consistent.

Plus, in fairness, by the standards of green true believers, the form of population control he’s thinking of here is pretty tame. Exit question: What role should abortion have in this planet-saving scheme of “fertility management”?

Gore is only talking about one facet of the combined-arms approach to saving the planet.

Take his ideas about “fertility management”, combine them with Ayers notion of death camps for the unworthy, sprinkle in a bit of PBHO’s children-are-burdens rhetoric, and presto magico! the Earth is saved.

If overpopulation is the problem, shouldn’t we be happy that people are starving to death all over the planet?

There is something ungodly about preaching that human beings are polluters and planet killers by dint of their very existence. The subject of whether some people shouldn’t have children because they are, say, unmarried teens without a job is an entirely different topic altogether – but it has to do with personal responsibility not pollution.

I remember back when the population was 5 billion, and the libs were freakin’ out about it, there was a study done by some group on this ‘overpopulation’.

They took the number 5 billion, averaged out the family unit size as 5 per family, which is 1 billion families of 5 each, gave each family a quarter acre of land. That’s 250 million acres. That’s about the size of Texas. The entire population of the Earth could live in Texas!

GarandFan on June 22, 2011 at 6:33 PM

This is Al Gore promoted abortion (again), albeit in an underhanded fashion (though that method now characterizes Gore), particularly after growing exposure of the continued and growing numbers of abortions in China “by state order” of many a female human being (gender-based abortion, eugenics, in other words, as is most of what abortion is and why it’s done but China has taken the practice to new depths).

I contribute to the support of 21 children, have never applied any “gender” or race (nor ethnicity) “test” to evaluate their worth-for-life, and the idea ought to be among us all to value human life, not to devalue it nor to consider life expendable under all circumstances except the protection of life (self defense, the defense of others, society defending itself and others).

ONE THING MORE, though, and people such as Al Gore utterly omit the entire issue of the involvements and responsibilities of men in these “population concerns”: without men, there’d be no population eventually.

Male behavior should be a key aspect of all these discussions, the looney and the decent, because so far, it’s all about “women and girls” as if we’re somehow engaging in immaculate conceptions. Abortion and eugenics entirely targets female and female behaviors, while, indeed, omitting the behaviors by males (both should be discussed and addressed, not limited to females only) (and promoting “it’s a woman’s choice” as to abortion is part of that misleading — and Gorian, Leftwing, eugenics — process).

Exit question: What role should abortion have in this planet-saving scheme of “fertility management”?

Little to no role. It’s a barbaric act by barbarian, irresponsible people, including as promoted by Al Gore among them.

The CCP apparently perceives in Chen a real threat to its crumbling legitimacy.

Key West Reader on June 22, 2011 at 6:05 PM

Even more fitting? Send him to live in that tent in the middle of ANWR in late June and July.

The tundra provides a perfect environment for mosquitoes and other insects who emerge in late June and July continually harass the caribou. By mid-to-late July, most Porcupine Caribou have moved off the Coastal Plain and dispersed in the foothills, only to be plagued by two other insect pests; the warble fly and the nose bot fly. The warble fly, which looks like a small yellow and black bumblebee, lays its eggs in the fur and the legs or abdomen of the caribou. The larvae soon hatch, burrow under the skin, and travel to the back. here they encapsulate and cut a breathing hole in the skin.

-snip-

The nose bot bears live larvae, which it deposits in the nostrils of the caribou. The bot larvae move through the nasal passages and settle down at the entrance to the throat. By spring the larvae have grown so much that they may form a mass large enough to actually interfere with breathing.

Of course, knowing Algore, he would probably bring along a dozen Mosquito Magnets.

Uhm, we already have “fertility management”, its just that women get to manage their own fertility. Isn’t the US birthrate already pretty low? Europe’s also?

JavelinaBomb on June 22, 2011 at 7:26 PM

What really irks me when liberal men talk about “fertility management” is that they operate under the assumption that women will still be sexually available to them. Their method of “fertility management” is never to keep their own pants zipped up; it’s to treat women’s fertility, and the natural results of sexual intercourse between two young, healthy people, as a disease.

If anyone were capable of checking out population growth charts, they would understand that telling Americans to manage their fertility is the equivalent of those “coexist” bumper stickers: no matter how nice the sentiment, it’s simply not aimed at the appropriate audience. Americans are very close to that magic 2.1 children per woman that is needed to create population stability.

As a final thought: anyone who wants Social Security to stay stable, without raising the retirement age or cutting benefits, should be out there begging young women to get knocked up and haranguing young men to marry them, enough already with “finding yourself” in a haze of pot smoke. Pyramid schemes and “zero population growth” are mutually exclusive enterprises.
