Tee hee: Obama now joking about his own giant economic failures

posted at 6:50 pm on June 13, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Ace, remember how angry we all were when he admitted that “shovel-ready” public works projects — the ostensible target of the stimulus — um, don’t really exist? The Democrats spent weeks before he was inaugurated selling voters on the concept and did a good enough job that they ended up with a $787 billion check from Congress for their trouble.

Well, get ready to turn those frowns upside down, America:

It was explained to Obama [at today's event] that the permitting process can delay projects for “months to years … and in many cases even cause projects to be abandoned … I’m sure that when you implemented the Recovery Act your staff briefed you on many of these challenges.” At this point, Obama smiled and interjected, “Shovel-ready was not as … uh .. shovel-ready as we expected.” The Council, led by GE’s Jeffrey Immelt, erupted in laughter.

If you think that’s funny, wait until you hear his five-minute set on the national debt and the coming S&P downgrade. Although, I don’t know — maybe this could be a good approach for him on the stump next year. If the economy stays flat, there’s no way he’ll be able to spin the numbers to his advantage. He’ll be left saying surreally stupid things like this or, per the second clip below (via Greg Hengler), slightly less stupid things about how he’s “not satisfied” with the way things are but still feels pretty darned proud of all the good economic work he’s done. He’s doomed if he plays it straight, so why not keep it light? Have fun with it. I’m sure the “Daily Show” writers would be willing to work pro bono. We’re the funniest people in the world, damn it. If we’re destined for fiscal collapse, let’s at least greet the Reaper laughing.

Silly private sector, no sense of humor.

During the campaign, he’ll say Bush gave him the bad economy.
Of course Obama prolonged it & made it worse, but he did inherit a mess.
Which is why the GOP nominee needs to go after liberalism, & not just Obama.

He’ll probably keep pushing how the economy would be worse if he did nothing… which is really not measurable and all a bunch of babble and hearsay… although many will fall for it over and over. Then there’s always the standby of Blame Bush, where it’ll be the year 2100 and the Dems would still be blaming him. Lets hope they don’t write that into the history books or again, our kids will be learning it.

Surprised he didn’t use his favorite line and claim that the economy is the last thing he thinks about before he goes to sleep and the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up.

Of course, that’s after he thinks of a really unpopular healthcare plan and about 10 other things…but outside of ALL of that, it’s really the first thing he thinks about. Pinky swear.

Why shouldn’t he laugh and joke? He’s a multimillionaire now, thanks to the millions of simpering rubes who bought his “autobiographies.” As an ex-president (even one who only served one term), he’ll rake in many millions more in speaking fees after he’s booted out of office.

He knows he has nothing to worry about, no matter how bad our economy gets because of his idiotic policies.

Roy Rogers on June 13, 2011 at 7:16 PM

The notion, above, to blame the troubles not only on Obama but liberalism as well is a good one.

And, to that point, much of the spending Bush approved was during the years when he had to appease Pelosi and Co. in order to get and continue the surge in Iraq. It’s too easy to forget such leeetle details when we ourselves blame Bush for all his spending.

Obama smiled and interjected, “Shovel-ready was not as … uh .. shovel-ready as we expected.”

Everyone looking for work and those with other financial stresses are really laughing. This is disgusting.

The Democrats spent weeks before he was inaugurated selling voters on the concept and did a good enough job that they ended up with a $787 billion check from Congress for their trouble.

I don’t know that the Dems ever did sell the voters on it. They just went ahead and did what they wanted to do anyway. I know I called and wrote my Dem senator several times saying no, no, no.
