Great news from Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: We’ve turned this economy around

posted at 4:00 pm on June 12, 2011 by Allahpundit

The horrendous economic indicators of late have had me worried about a double-dip, but after this Reality-Based newsflash from DWS, I feel much better. To think, some people call her Debbie Downer; why, she’s practically bursting with optimism and good vibes. May I suggest a campaign slogan for her and the rest of the DNC?

“Obama 2012: You’re Welcome, America.”

By the same logic, I guess, Anthony Weiner’s little nob-tweeting habit has “turned his mayoral campaign around.” There’s a second clip included below of Wasserman-Schultz and Priebus chatting about him this morning too, just so that you can watch DWS squirm when asked by Gregory why she was so quick to dismiss the scandal as a “personal matter” after Weiner’s initial, utterly preposterous explanation. An idle thought: Some liberals (but not Debbie) are still willing to defend Weiner on account of the fact that he fights hard for the progressive agenda. How exactly is he fighting for their agenda, though, by singlehandedly derailing their “Republicans want to kill grandma” Medicare messaging push in the media? He’s killing their agenda. If he cared more about The Cause than about impressing women with his congressional cachet, he would have fallen on his sword a week ago. Instead, he’s prepared to let the Democrats bleed for months if need be as the media digs up one new sleazy revelation after another. What a selfless warrior he is.

Great news from Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: We’ve turned this economy around

…and sent it directly over the nearest cliff.

Steve Eggleston on June 12, 2011 at 4:59 PM

The Frizzled One is nuts. The left loved to talk about the stock market yet now we have had 6 straight down weeks and the latest have accelerated. In the depths of the Bush recession we never saw the market do this.

CW on June 12, 2011 at 5:00 PM

The economy is so bad out here in SOCAL, even the Liberal Democrats I work with are upset with Obama…

Every time I fill up my truck at over $4 a gallon, I thank the Democrats…

Gas through the roof. Food prices through the roof. Trillions upon trillions added to the debt. 9.1 % unemployment. Underemployment at nearly 20%. Millions of young people unable to find work. Energy prices skyrocketing. The dollar is failing.

Good work Obama. Crr gfy.

This economy is the new normal. This is as good as it’s going to get.

The Republicans had better use this in 2012.

crr6 on June 12, 2011 at 4:59 PM

Is it okay to dispute Downer Debbie’s assertion that it’s gotten better? She’s the one who made the assertion that they’ve “turned things around.” Do you assert that things are better in the economy since January of 2009? If so, I want some of what you are smoking.

Things haven’t gotten better by any measurable standard. We are still experiencing the effects of the bursting of the housing bubble. Of course, you and Obama and Debbie are still blaming Bush for that, even though he and many of the other Republicans tried to get the Democrats to reform Fannie and Freddie, and avert the disaster, and the Democrats wouldn’t cooperate.

I guess we just haven’t spent enough non-existent government money to get things going yet, huh?

JannyMae on June 12, 2011 at 5:18 PM

crr6 on June 12, 2011 at 4:59 PM

Now, see, here’s something I have genuinely always wondered about democrats, so let me ask you:

You understand that Wasserman-Schultz and President Obama don’t actually believe that the economy has turned around, right?

You understand that they are terrified that we are entering a second dip in the recession, possibly heading to a depression, right?

You understand that nearly all of Obama’s economic team have resigned, and those left have no idea what to do about the economy, right?

You understand that their “happy talk” is campaign talk, that they don’t really believe it but they hope you will believe it, right?

I’m serious, here. You understand these things, right, and you’re just doing your part for the party? See, that I would understand. But believing this sh!t? That’s just sad. It really is.

Rational Thought on June 12, 2011 at 5:18 PM

impressing women with his congressional cachet

I’ve never heard it called that before.

JimK on June 12, 2011 at 5:24 PM

A year from now, the Democrats’ mantra will be….

“We simply cannot let America’s first African American President be a one termer, or else we’ll never be able to live with ourselves. Sure, the economy is in bad shape, but we must give Obama another four years. If we lose faith in him, then we’ve lost faith in ourselves and in everything great that America is and can be”.

This was the plan all along. Screw everything up as much as possible, and then portray all the people who are really angry about it as wild eyed racists and appeal to the moral vanity of the most disinterested, uniformed voters.

This is an interesting read:

A Lost Generation in the Making?

The Great Recession and its aftermath have created a very high (17 percent) youth unemployment rate. But the meltdown “vaporized” both housing values and retirement plans, forcing aging baby boomers to work longer than they intended. “For every member of the millennial generation frustrated that she can’t start a career, there may be a baby boomer frustrated that he can’t end one,” according to Brownstein.

Yeah, DWS, it’s great out here…

Fallon on June 12, 2011 at 4:13 PM

This too: Federal Data Shows Troubling Unemployment, Underemployment Trends

“Less than half of African-American men now have full-time jobs, and less than half of all white men will have full-time jobs in 2018, according to post-2000 trends hidden in federal population and workforce data.”

That’s that part of the electorate 96% faithful to little Bammie.

Who wasted trillions of dollars on a “Stimulus” that did not work?

Also Consider that Some of the major problems we are facing today are the creations of past Democratic administrations as in Social Security with FDR and the Great (Socialistic) Society with LBJ.

Now, who is responsible for the majority of this mess?

Correct me if I am wrong, but Obama asked the voters prior to November 2008 for the job of President and said he could fix the economy. He was in Congress for 2 years prior to that. Did someone hold a gun to his head and say “Take that job of President even though you have no idea how to fix the economy!!”?
Is someone holding a gun to his head now and saying ask for the job again??
He gave it his best shot, he failed. Go home.

It’s worse than that, the Democrats duped the college kids, the generation coming up. They had them going door to door for Obama in 2008. Who is really getting hurt by this economy? Not to mention the 14.3 trillion dollar deficit, and climbing, they are going to end up being stuck with.

These tools have created so much pain for so many, and none of it was necessary, but that’s how they are hard wired to grab power at anyone’s expense. The establishment Republicans aren’t much better. It’s called social shock, and they don’t care how many Americans have to go through it.

Dr Evil on June 12, 2011 at 7:36 PM

DWS might not wax so ebullient about Mr Obama and his economy if the latest story out of DC is true. After being chastised (and rightfully so after sandbagging him earlier) by Netanyahu-Obama got so angry he started shouting to hia aide Richard Daley: (Daley’s replies, reportedly, were too muted to be heard.)

OBAMA (referring to Netanyahu) “What the f–k was that” “Who does that @%%@#$@# think he is. Never again! Do you understand me! Never again!”

It looks like bad blood brewing between the Palestinian Lover and Israel. But Obama might have the last laugh-the coming depression will take Israel down also.

Republicans have to use the Weiner incident as an example of what shameless liars Democrats are. They have to show that Weiner didn’t just by accident lie so easily to everyone for over a week. It came with practice lying about Democratic policies and lying about the opposition. DWS is another example of a brazen liar in the Democratic leadership. You’ll have to forgive crr6, she still believes the falsehood that the Memorial Award Paul Krugman “won” is a real Nobel Prize. Even the Nobel folks themselves say it’s not.

Oh, and Chip, you forget to place blame to the Clinton Administration, which started the whole Fannie Mae debacle, thanks to people like Jaime Gorelick and Howell Raines.

Del Dolemonte on June 12, 2011 at 5:46 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot the CRA and all that, because we all know that banks, all by their lonesome are naturally going to lend to people who are at great risk at not paying their loans back.

Yeah, that makes all kinds of sense (/sarc) – just like the idea that the solution to governmental intervention in the free market is MORE governmental intervention in the free market (by ‘Spreading the wealth around’).

Is it their position that the economy was humming along nicely in January of 2009, and that it’s turned around 360 degrees since then?
If yes, then of course I dispute that. Don’t you?

I missed this and I’m not sure the date, but this week at least. I don’t know if this is another new poll or one I heard about a couple of days ago.

Slightly OT: Gateway Pundit is reporting that Weiner is now considering resigning.

Too bad BHO will still be around.

OBAMA (referring to Netanyahu) “What the f–k was that” “Who does that @%%@#$@# think he is. Never again! Do you understand me! Never again!”

MaiDee on June 12, 2011 at 7:44 PM

Wow. And no doubt this nitwit completely misses the irony in his use (twice) of the phrase ‘never again’.

What a contemptible, utterly reprehensible piece of excrement BO is – as is anyone that still remotely tries to cover for or support him.

If she believes what she says, she is evil.
If she’s been bought off, she has no soul.

Obama March 2009: “Finally, the most critical part of our strategy is to ensure that we do not return to an economic cycle of bubble and bust in this country. We know that an economy built on reckless speculation, inflated home prices and maxed-out credit cards does not create lasting wealth. It creates the illusion of prosperity, and it’s endangered us all.”

I think we have to give him credit for accomplishing this goal!

He has ended the economic cycle of bubble and bust! We are now in never ending bust!

“Inflated home prices” The price of homes has collapsed! Ya buddy way to go Obama!

“maxed-out credit cards does not create lasting wealth”. Obama is leading by example here! He has maxed-out the country’s credit it has not lead to lasting wealth, and he has endangered us all!!
Ya-Buddy

4 more years! 4 more years!
