But toward the beginning of her administration, in January 2007, Ms. Palin wrote a long e-mail to her senior staff members urging them to talk to the press about whatever they wanted. (Read the e-mail.)

“In fact, I’ve stated that the more information and communication efforts put forth on behalf of your departments and divisions, the better,” she wrote in the e-mail, which she said was prompted by an article in The Anchorage Daily News that suggested she had banned aides from speaking openly to reporters.

“I have NEVER banned any of our team members from voicing opinions on anything,” she wrote. “I’ve asked that you all share your opinions, speak freely to the press, public, legislators, one another, etc. (In other words, don’t do what past administrations have done.)”

She concluded: “I will write to the ‘Ear’ reporter and clarify for her also.” The Anchorage Daily News has a column called Alaska Ear.

couldn’t be like i don’t know them searching 24,000 emails, sending 11 factcheckers to look at her book, dumpsterdivers, attackign her children, making crap up or nothing like that….

ok now they are grasping….OMG Palin told her staff to remind her about something on her schedule…OMG!!!111!!!!!

Since Palin was clearly busy, she often relied on her staff to help her remember to pay attention to all those details and things she might forget. Like her mother, as noted in the July 28, 2008, email to two assistants:

Don’t let me forget to pick up my mom tomorrow after milk run flt comes into Juneau 3:00-ish I think.

Despite a dizzying presidential campaign schedule with Sen. John McCain, Sarah Palin kept in near constant communication with her Alaska staff going over appointments, oil and gas legislation, and even inquiring about what the press was asking her communications aides in Alaska.

It’s clear that Palin and her staff back at the state capitol believed that the press scrutiny she was receiving as the vice presidential nominee was overwhelming and unwarranted. It was also Palin’s first major experience being in the national media spotlight.

On September 15, 2008 Palin emailed members of her team working on a project to build a natural gas pipeline in the state saying, “I hear some of the anti’s are griping about TC-Alaska again, let me know if I need to answer any of their gripes.”

Department of Revenue Commissioner Pat Galvin replied, “There are very few anti’s griping within Alaska, but the national media is getting their first taste of AGIA and they WANT it to be wrong somehow. First, the New York Times wrote that the gasline is no sure thing, quoting Bert and Lyda as recent converts against it…acting as if you had said the gas was practically flowing right now. Recently, we hear that a Newsweek reporter wasn’t to ‘blow the lid’ off the real story that everybody knows we’ll never get through Canada, and AGIA was all a ruse to get you to the White House.”

Palin answered “Holy cow. Thank you guys for continuing to get the truth out!”

That same day she emailed her attorney general, Talis Colberg, to inquire about the his investigation into gas prices in Alaska.

Also on Sept. 15, she sent a message to her commissioner of the Department of Fish and Game and other top aides to check in about press inquiries regarding polar bears and climate change.

“I anticipate folks will be inquiring about our polar bear issue, though it hasn’t cropped up yet that I’ve heard of….climate change is a top issue of course, Just head’s up,” Palin wrote. “Also, predator control’s been quiet, but let me know if the issue’s volume gets turned up and I need to respond to anything.”

Again on the same day, her commissioner, Lloyd Denby replied, “We’ve received a number of public records requests and press inquiries regarding polar bear and predator control, but nothing out of the ordinary (other than the number and frequency.”

Press secretary Bill McAllister e mailed Palin to report on some of the media inquiries they received including about her tanning bed, rape kits, and her “belief that dinosaurs and humans co-existed at one time?” The former and now current reporter ends his email, “I continue to be dismayed at the media.”

She replied clearly frustrated, “Arghhh! I am so sorry that the office is swamped like this! Dinosaurs even?! I’ll try to run through some of these in my head before responding. And the old, used tanning bed that my girls have used a handful of times in Juneau? Yes, we paid for it ourselves. I, too, will continue to be dismayed at the media and am thankful you and Sharon are not part of the strange going’s-on in the media world of today.”

There are also many emails from supporters excited about her vie-presidential bid, some that Palin took the time to respond to herself. But buried among the notes from supporters, there are also several graphic death threats directed at Palin and sent to her state account – some were apparently even sent from outside the country.

OMG!!!!111!!! Palin still handled the responsibilities of bering the VP candidate and gov at the same time. Isn’t that like walking and chewing gum at the same time?
