Breaking news: Still no news whatsoever from Palin e-mails; Update: “No big bombshells”

posted at 5:41 pm on June 10, 2011 by Allahpundit

No, just kidding. The media is indeed coming up with important scoops each hour. Here’s a bombshell that dropped at Bloomberg shortly after 3 p.m.:

WaPo’s also chasing a hot lead that Palin really is Trig’s mother. Matt Welch of Reason surfed around this afternoon and found that her e-mails were the top story at the websites of the New York Times, the LA Times (“The archive will continue to grow”!!!), the Post, USA Today, and even the Wall Street Journal, thus prompting the question of whether this is a slow news day which the media is using Palin to fill or whether it only seems like a slow news day because the media simply isn’t covering anything else. The front page at MSNBC as I write this:

If you click the “Latest Updates” link it brings you here, where the latest news is that Palin was thinking about being VP even before McCain started looking at her. And to think, some of you guys thought this creepy media feeding frenzy wouldn’t yield anything good. Did you see how Jon Stewart mocked the press last night for focusing on Weinergate to the exclusion of all sorts of other important news? Well, I guess this is the “important news” for which they decided it was finally time to shift gears.

Stick with Hot Air throughout the day as we continue to follow new developments in this critical, fast-moving story. Or, if you prefer, stick with the Guardian; when it comes to sifting through crushingly mundane e-mails about Palin’s daily schedule as governor, I prefer the urbane analysis of international coverage. While we wait for new bombshells to burst, here’s Rush Limbaugh reflecting on America’s first-ever crowdsourced oppo research operation. Exit question via Dave Weigel: When do we get to see Barack Obama’s e-mails as state senator? Click the image to watch.

Update: There are 24,000 e-mails to review so Palin-haters can hold onto hope for a while longer, but Politico’s ready to pronounce the early hours a total bust:

Reporters lined up in Juneau and in front of computers across the country spent the afternoon poring over 24,000 newly released emails from Sarah Palin’s first year and a half as governor, hoping for a bombshell.

But none immediately emerged.

Many of the emails deal with the mundane business of government. Others show her corresponding with aides, admirers and members of her administration about everything from her views on dinosaurs to fisheries policy.

Rest assured, a “bombshell” will emerge even if it isn’t an actual bombshell bringing to light some important, heretofore unknown fact. The press isn’t going to hype this crowdsourcing to the insane extent that they have and end up with Al Capone’s vault. If need be, they’ll choose some uninteresting e-mail from the batch and declare it to be important and scandalous and proof that the whole effort was worthwhile. Take it to the bank.

Says Jonah Goldberg, “it’s amazing to watch liberals/MSM have a fiesta setting precedents that’ll burn their asses for years to come.”

think she’s not qualified to be President (which I personally lean towards),

ramrants on June 10, 2011 at 8:17 PM

Palin’s totally qualified to be President.
Anyone who says differently is just being contrary like petunia.

Jenfidel on June 10, 2011 at 8:24 PM

Contemptuous, that’s the only word I have for this idiocy. However, my contempt can be divided among others beside the media…

GOP leadership gets a double share for offering not a word of condemnation for this clearly partisan-based attack on their most recent VP candidate. Congressman Boehner? Senator McConnell? Bueller?

Declared or prospective Presidential candidates get a full share for forgetting the lesson of Martin Niemoller‘s famous poem:

First, they came for Sarah Palin, and I did not speak out, because I am not Sarah Palin…

The concern trolls get a half measure of contempt, because even as we watch Palin’s hard work, dedication, and professionalism in her governance unfold through her communications, they are still convinced that she is both unelectable and unfit to hold national office. Idiots, every one of you who refuse to recognize the character, integrity and capability of Gov. Palin.

And well, the haters get their usual dose of contempt, can’t expect the deranged to be moved by mere factual evidence.

Keep it up, NYT/WAPO. This is the best free campaign advertising in the history of politics.

I think she definitely knows if she is going to run for President. And she says she hasn’t decided yet. She said something to Ailes that convinced him she wasn’t running.

She says she didn’t mean to step on Pawlenty and Romney’s roll out of their campaigns… she said that was an accident. That was a lie. She did it on purpose and every one knows it.

She has convinced millions she is running and takes their money on that lie.

If she gets in isn’t a lie, but if she gets in, she does know she is getting in… and she is lying when she says she doesn’t know.

I do not think this woman is honest. She is a typical politician who says what she has to to keep her followers happy and keeps them sending in the money that funds her vacations and her new houses.

Could’ve been that Romney wantes to take the spotlight from Palin, and it didn’t work. Anyway, it’s not her fault if neither of those have the presence to overcome Palin being within the borders of thew state they happen to be in. In fact, come to think of it, was a state away from Romney.

Of course since you think this then she is lying.

She has convinced millions she is running and takes their money on that lie.

What a crock of sh//. People send money because they trust she’ll use it for conservative political muscle whether she runs or not.

If she gets in isn’t a lie, but if she gets in, she does know she is getting in… and she is lying when she says she doesn’t know.

katy the mean old lady on June 10, 2011 at 9:53 PM

Going after Palin this way was a major mistake for the media. The revelations are good for Palin – bad for the MSM. In fact, those emails are ironically but actually vindicating Palin.

My friend who is cool towards Palin was (a surprise to me) particularly impressed with the governor’s email where Sarah protected her staff … where she preferred the press’ flak fall on her rather than her people.

After a couple of years with the adolescent Obama incessantly assigning blame to anyone but him, my friend is beginning to admire Palin’s leadership style. oh my.

I think I have a convert … and it only took a Palin email.

This witch hunt is turning out to be a major plus for Palin.

What part of the Constitution does Sarah Palin not meet to be qualified to be president? Anyone care to enlighten me? As off the top of my head I can’t think of anything.

I’d bet good money, she’ll produce proof of citizenship, up front, once she needs to.

Is she in her 20′s or something?

cutting spending by 9.5% during good times,

unseen on June 10, 2011 at 7:41 PM

Palin increased State spending every year she was Governor of Alaska:
FY 2006: 7.4 Billion
FY 2007: 7.8 Billion
FY 2008: 8.6 Billion
FY 2009: 8.9 Billion
FY 2010: 9.5 Billion

Facts are stubborn things.

She also increased earmarks her first two years in office, until she was called on her hypocrisy when she was running for Vice-President, and reduced them her final year in office.

There’s a reason why the Mercatus Center at George Mason ranked Alaska 49th out of 50 states in Fiscal Policy and 47th in Economic Freedom during Palin’s reign.

http://mercatus.org/sites/default/files/publication/Freedom_in_the_50_States.pdf

By the way, the Mercatus Center is one of the premier Free Market oriented economic think-tanks founded by the Koch Foundation.

The thing about Sarah is that she will never disappoint us and we could all be relaxed and confident today over these emails.

She is not a phony. She is intelligent, sincere, warm and decent. Her private self is the same as her public self.

She talked about being a VP pick months before she was picked. GASP! I remember her name on the lists for a year in advance. If my name was on that list, I would be mentioning it and thinking about it too.

Yes, Sarah is an ambitious and competitive person. So what? She has a lot of gifts and talents to share and she knows it. But I guess, since she is a woman, she is supposed to be some kind of Shrinking Violet.

Bats her eyes, lowers her eyes, “Oh, me? I’m flattered, but I just couldn’t . . .”

They make me sick. Such hypocrites. Always talking up women’s right. Until there is a true strong woman who isn’t afraid to show it and has the confidence that some of these basket cases in the media don’t and also doesn’t have to overcompensate by being overly tough and acting like a guy. She has Todd and her family. She is a complete true woman.

She tells her secretary she loves her. She asked people to “pray.”

Yup, we need to fear this woman.

I clicked over to nearly all the lefty media outlets pouring through these e-mails, and the comments are almost all negative — against the press! These “journalists” are simply erasing any lingering doubts about the MSM being a campaign arm of the democrat party.

And this has the added bonus of allowing pundits to list all of the areas of Obama’s public life that have NOT been scrutinized. So, they’ll learn nothing new about Palin, but more and more people will be talking about Obama and the media’s complicity in covering up for him. Winning!

The release of 24,000 pages of Sarah Palin’s emails shows that she received a barrage of abusive emails including death threats in the run up to the 2008 presidential race.

One message sent by someone in Juneau, Alaska on Sept 17, 2008 said the governor should be “shot from one of the planes that shoot the very wolves that you ordered.”

Five days earlier an email landed in her in-box saying she “must be killed.”

It said: “She doesn’t belong to the NRA to support the right of each citizen to have weapons in an aim of self-defence, but just to support the right of every southern white citizen to shoot all non-white people legally! Sarah Palin MUST BE KILLED!”

Another emailed death threat in the same month, while Mrs Palin was on the campaign trail as John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate, came from Antwerp, Belgium.

It said Mrs Palin should be shot and that “only on that moment justice will be accomplished.”

GOOD FOR AMC!

Victory Film Group today announced The Undefeated, which chronicles Sarah Palin’s rise from obscurity to national prominence, will play exclusively at select AMC Theatres (AMC), a leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment company, starting on July 15th.

The film will launch in markets such as Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Atlanta, Orange County, Phoenix, Houston, Indianapolis, and Kansas City. Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp. (NASDAQ: CIDM), a full-service theatrical distributor specializing in digital cinema, is managing the theatrical release and ARC Entertainment has taken on worldwide distribution responsibilities for the project.

“After screening The Undefeated, we took the unusual step of immediately exploring an expedited theatrical release, something we normally wouldn’t do during the busy summer months,” said Trevor Drinkwater, CEO, ARC Entertainment.

“AMC is committed to providing distinct content to diverse audiences across the United States,” said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, VP, Specialty & Alternative Content at AMC Theatres. “We are proud to consistently offer a wide variety of product to our guests.”

“The Undefeated is the ideal candidate for digital theatrical distribution,” stated Jonathan Dern, President of Cinedigm Entertainment Group. “Given Palin’s ardent following throughout the country, digital cinema allows us to be extremely precise and efficient in our distribution strategy, bringing this much-anticipated film directly to interested theatre-goers.”

In addition to the cities in which the movie is expected to launch, the public also will be encouraged to vote on future theatre locations that may screen The Undefeated. Voting takes place at

LOL, right.

You must be confusing the way she talks with the positions she holds.

No, I’m basing it on her record in Alaska. Increased government spending, soaking oil companies for revenues, etc., is not the mark of a conservative.

An environment in which you have one owner of resources (the state), three or four businesses seeking to commercially exploit the resources, more-or-less stable costs of production, and the market price of the resource (read: profit) is highly volatile beyond the ability of either party to control, is absolutely not a free market. Therefore the usual rules about government interference via taxation do not apply. The goal is to find a method of taxation that allows both parties access to the gains from periods of high profit and to share the burden at times of low (or negative) profit, since neither is predictable. ACES is a good format for sharing Alaska’s oil wealth between owners and extractors. The rates themselves mau be a little high and need adjustment. But the argument “taxes are bad” completely avoids the status of the state as owner of the resources.

If you wanted to privatize Alaska by giving a piece of state or federal land to each state resident, I’d be behind that as well.

NEWS FLASH: E-mails reveal Palin to be a woman. Pelosi strongly doubts results, blames Bush and demands federal investigation. Reid exhorts TSA officials to seek the truth. One trillion new stimulus funds provided. Times hires every resident of Brooklyn. Volunteers them as governmental support staff. Anthony Weiner appointed acting supervisor. To issues orders from sex addiction clinic.

Alaskan document dump continues to consume network news. Nuking of Chicago, Martian invasion, and government default stories all back-burnered.

Give me specifics instead of spin, Champ. How does abiding by and enforcing her state’s constitution lessen her conservative credentials? Especially considering that everything you accused her of involved following through on a campaign promise?

I gave specifics in a message I wrote earlier in this thread, with the figures for Alaska government spending from this website:

http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/

….as well as links to a Cato Institute study that ranked the States on fiscal policy and economic freedom. Alaska ranked 49th and 47th in those measures.

At the usgovernmentspending.com website you can build your own charts and diagrams, select different years for the Federal budget, individual state budgets, etc.

Fair points all, but debatable. Cato is a libertarian think tank, and I don’t consider myself a libertarian. The only apt question to me is, did Sarah Palin leave Alaska in better fiscal shape than it was when she entered the governor’s office? A $500,000,000+ net surplus over the course of her truncated gubernatorial tenure says yes.
