“Patriotic Millionaires” to Congress: Hurry up and tax us already, please

posted at 9:49 pm on June 7, 2011 by Allahpundit

A palate cleanser via the Daily Caller dedicated to a very special man who’s still not worried that we’re headed for a double-dip recession. Anytime we write about the “raise my taxes!” crowd I feel obliged to remind them that they’re perfectly entitled to raise their own taxes whenever they like. Here’s the link; every dollar that goes towards paying down the national debt means a little extra tax revenue isn’t going towards interest payments and can therefore be applied elsewhere.

Give generously, kids, because guess what?

The government added $5.3 trillion in new financial obligations in 2010, largely for retirement programs such as Medicare and Social Security. That brings to a record $61.6 trillion the total of financial promises not paid for.

This gap between spending commitments and revenue last year equals more than one-third of the nation’s gross domestic product…

The $61.6 trillion in unfunded obligations amounts to $534,000 per household. That’s more than five times what Americans have borrowed for everything else — mortgages, car loans and other debt. It reflects the challenge as the number of retirees soars over the next 20 years and seniors try to collect on those spending promises…

The government has promised pension and health benefits worth more than $700,000 per retired civil servant. The pension fund’s key asset: federal IOUs.

Medicare alone took on an extra $1.8 trillion in liabilities last year, but we’ll just have to come up with the money — unless, of course, you’re prepared to sit by and watch as Paul Ryan kills your grandma with his bare hands. You wouldn’t do that to grandma, would you?

Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called “Gifts to the United States.” This account was established in 1843 to accept gifts, such as bequests, from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States. Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs. These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government. Financial gifts can be made by check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and mailed to the address below.

Gifts to the United States
U.S. Department of the Treasury

KMC1 on June 7, 2011 at 10:03 PM

The “gubmint” could tax all present taxpayers at the 90% level and not make even a small dent in the overall indebtedness this Nation faces.

It isn’t that taxes are not high enough. Can we finally kill that urban myth?

One major problem stems from a shrinking number of tax-paying citizens being compelled by “gubmint” to support a growing number of non-taxpaying citizens.

Add to that the obligations this Nation has on the books already, and add to it the new schemes coming from this administration to spend more of what we don’t have, and there seems to be no end to the runaway growth of that indebtedness. The interest on that debt is greater than the total amount of federal indebtedness from even a few short years ago.

Debunking the Millionaires and Billionaires Tax Cut Rhetoric
Dec 10 2010
*************

I am amazed when I hear not just liberal Democrats but also some Republicans being suckered into the belief that “the wealthiest 2 percent of taxpayers, these millionaires and billionaires” should see their tax rates rise. It is class warfare, yes. More importantly, it is not true!

According to Bloomberg News, an overwhelming percentage of the people being called “the ultra rich” come nowhere near to earning $1 million dollars a year. Of this so-called “privileged class,” 3.8 million of those filing taxes who the liberal wing of the Democratic party believes to be “the very wealthy” are earning somewhere between $200,000 and $500,000 a year. Only 608,000 taxpayers earn between $500,000 and $1 million a year. That leaves a grand total of 315,000 individuals or families that earn more than $1 million a year. And if you separate out from that number the Oprah Winfreys of the world — megastar celebrities, professional athletes, and the true, few elites of the business and finance worlds — the percentage of “ultra rich” is even lower.

I have been a frequent critic of President Obama, but I must note that despite his clear left-of-center agenda, he was

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
smart enough to realize that these 3.8 million non-millionaires, attacked as they have been by a mindless left wing, are the only hope he has for an economic recovery.
*********************************************************
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Increase their taxes and inevitably they will have to cut back more in their own spending and, likely, on the number of people they hire and the services they use. Of course the president will never admit to this, but it is undeniable.(More………)

41 Obama White House aides owe the IRS $831,000 in back taxes — and they’re not alone
September 10, 2010
******************

Over the years a lot of suspicion has built up across the country about Washington and its population of opportunistic transients coming to see themselves as a special kind of person, somehow above average working Americans who don’t labor down in that monument-strewn former swamp.

Well, finally, an end to all those undocumented doubts. Thanks to some diligent digging by the Washington Post, those suspicions can at last be put to rest.

They’re correct. Accurate. Dead-on. Laser-guided. On target. Bingo-bango. As clear as it’s always seemed to those Americans who don’t feel special entitlements and do meet their government obligations.

We now know that federal employees across the nation owe fully $1 billion in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

As in, 1,000 times one million dollars. All this political jabber about giving middle-class …

… Americans a tax cut. Thousands of feds have been giving themselves one all along — unofficially. And these tax scofflaws include more than three dozen folks who work for the president with that newly decorated Oval Office.

If this video seems strange, just remember: What Modern Liberals care about most is making themselves feel better about themselves. Self-congratulation. Patting themselves on the back.

Reality, information, history, economic fundamentals, etc. are not as important. Just look at the results (not intentions) of their policies, regulations, and people they put into office.

Scratch the surface and you will find that most Libs are very selfish people, even those with “good intentions.”

Simple solution:
Republicans pay 10% tax rate. Democrats pay 60%.

BDavis on June 8, 2011 at 2:06 AM

They want the government to collect more taxes? Then here’s my solution: use the money to invest in some businesses, hire some geniuses to develop new products, custom build a yacht (if you don’t actually want one, no problem, you can lend it to me). The people you hire will earn more money, and therefore will pay more taxes. The businesses you create will earn money and owe taxes (not to mention what taxes the employees will pay now that they are working). The yacht builders will also pay more in taxes thanks to the income made from your order. I will make some extra money chartering tours and fishing trips on your yacht and will move into a higher tax bracket. And if your new businesses and inventions are a success, you will earn more money, meaning that not only will you pay more in taxes, you will also benefit your customers (who will pay more in sales tax buying your products), and you can invest more in new businesses, research, and an even bigger yacht for your favourite advisor…

Or you can convince the government to raise taxes, robbing thousands of people of jobs, robbing the government millions in lost revenues, robbing desperate customers of your products and services, and robbing me of my dream of sailing to the Caribbean.

If you really want to help your country, your choice is simple. Give me a yacht.

Johnny 100 Pesos on June 8, 2011 at 2:50 AM

The GOP needs to start hammering home these figures to the public at large if they really want to succeed in pushing for reform and winning the next election. Mark Steyn recently put the figure of America’s problem at a staggering $140 trillion. You can’t tax your way out of an abyss like that and, I think, too many Americans don’t realise the severity of the problem.

So far I’ve not yet heard any of the GOP nominees or any GOP politicians stand up and tell America that the nation is already sunk- and that if the challenge isn’t faced right now, no kicking the can down the road, then the nation as a whole is going to fast-forward to economic oblivion. Doing this with a big chart showing the deficit under Bush and under Obama in the background with a ticking clock showing how long it’s been since Democrats provided a budget can only help their cause. Maybe throw in another graphic of the unemployment- and what it was supposed to be with and without the stimulus- for good effect.

Which is the real reason. They want to tax the up and comers. The competition. They want to pull the ladder up behind them, which is why they won’t volunteer their own funds, but insist on everyone else in the guise of “tax me!”

So, they are not offering up THEIR wealth to the nation (which they could give right now with no action by congress) – they are asking the gov’t to tax people who are not yet wealth and who are working hard trying to make a better life.

these people’s arrogance, decietfulness, and greed is disgusting. I will listen to any rich liberal (Michael Moore, celebrities, teh Kennedies, etc) talk about higher taxes on the “rich” when they turn over most of THEIR wealth to the gov’t. Until then their words have no meaning.

I would like to clarify your statement, if you give me leave to do so.

“When these disingenuous, deceptive tools have their NET WORTH reduced to <$250,000(less than EVIL RICH definition), I will begin to hear their musings and pay attention to them. Until then, they are just a bunch of bloviating buffoons, not to be listened to!"

Thank you.

I guarantee you these people take every tax deduction they can. What a bunch of BS.

Yeah and we need to be sure to hoist them by their own petard once any of these co-signers gets busted for tax fraud.
