Oh my: Pelosi calls for House ethics investigation of Weiner

posted at 6:30 pm on June 6, 2011 by Allahpundit

I thought for sure the Democratic line on this would be, “It’s over, he accepted responsibility, let’s move on.” Nope. So worried are they about the fallout that they’re willing to prolong the story as long as they can if it means they can get on the other side of it and isolate Weiner in doing so.

Or is this simply Pelosi knowing/expecting that the GOP will launch an investigation anyway and figuring that she might as well stand up for “good government” while she can?

But after his news conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that she was calling for a House ethics committee probe into whether government resources had been mishandled.

“I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi added that she was “deeply disappointed and saddened” for Weiner’s wife and constituents.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) agreed that an ethics panel must review the situation in order to “remove all remaining doubt about this situation.” “Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future,” Israel said in a statement.

Hard to tell from the photos published by Big Government today whether he was using “official resources” to sext anyone, but if he was reckless enough to send outre stuff from e-mail/Facebook accounts bearing his actual name — here’s the latest from Radar — he was probably reckless enough to use government computers/phone lines at some point. Meagan Broussard claims that he once gave her a phone number that turned out to be for one of his offices, in fact. Which makes me wonder: Are we going to end up with an Ensign-type scenario here, where he hangs on hoping that the House ethics committee doesn’t find anything too damaging and then decides to resign when they finally do?

The “official resources” angle won’t hurt him much anyway. What’ll destroy him, of course, is if any of these women are underaged, a possibility which Weiner couldn’t categorically rule out when asked about it by reporters. (Behold this screencap for the ages.) Click the image below to watch the key exchange from the presser; should any of his “women” turn out to be girls, he’s finished. Exit question: Why wasn’t he more careful about hiding his indiscretions? Normally I don’t buy psychobabble about how some bad actors act recklessly because deep down they want to get caught, but … e-mailing barechested pics that clearly identify his face and sending raunchy messages from accounts bearing his name? Dude?

So, would you like to have every member of the senate and congress have to pass a sniff test before assuming office?

i.e. everyone goes under oath and is asked a number of questions about their fidelity, drug use, etc?

Is that the kind of pathetic nanny state you want to live in?

You had no business asking Clinton about his marriage or his affair(s) or anything of the sort because it is not your business.

PS, Sheetrock, Bill Clinton committed adultery in the workplace, with a female subordinate, in a public building. He then lied about it under oath (a Federal Felony), asked others to do the same, lied to his family, and lied to his VP and Cabinet. Oh, and he also lied to the people who hired him.

And in his first term, his Justice Department successfully prosecuted a female government employee (Veteran’s Administration) for the same felony he later said he was above the law for.

Calling for a House Ethics Investigation isn’t “throwing him under the bus” in any respect. The Ethics Committee has a slow and arcane process and limited tools to punish.

This just lets Weiner, Pelosi, and the other perfidious perverts to dodge future questions with “I can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.”

Weiner: if you’re worried about the possibility of an Ethics probe, talk to Chuck Rangel, Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, and John Conyers. It’s not so bad – really!

Adjoran on June 7, 2011 at 1:57 AM

So, did a very small bit of research.

An investigation by the House Ethics Commmittee means:

1) A 30-day preliminary review. (30 days of “Can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.”)
2) A 45-day second-phase review. (45 more days of “Can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.”)
3) A 14-day extension before they report. (14 more days of “Can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.”)
4) An inevitable verdict of: “Broke no House rules.” 89 days after the “investigation” begins.
5) Calls for Weiner to resign are now met with eye rolls and “Old news.”

Anyone think people will still care about this in September?

(The “House Rules” are here in the form of a “Code of Conduct”. The longer version just expands on these points. It includes things like not hiring family members, not accepting bribes or extorting money from people, and such.

No mention of not taking explicit pictures of yourself and mailing them to young girls.

Unless you think Democrats will buy that this violates the first rule: “A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.”)

Good point. A wounded Weiner on the other team only helps us. We don’t want to see Debbie Wasserman-Schultz fired any time soon, either.

Unfortunately, for the devious hypocrites, technology leaves footprints.

Instead of the left’s Clinton excuse:it’s jsut sex”
We’ll now hear about “it’s just free speech”

But, for people who would dare defy turh with impunity and call the evil slaughter of innocent life “Choice” what would we expect?

Words, to the left, are like crises – things to be manipulated. The spawns of Satan, indeed.

Listening to Rywall, it’s clear that libs have a Swiss Cheese morality defined thusly: when the right does something wrong they point at the cheese, jump up and down on their unused bibles, and say it stinks, but when they repeatedly do the same wrong things, they point at the holes and say how clean it is, and call us bible thumpers..

Is that the kind of pathetic nanny state you want to live in?

Bill Clinton was a rapist whom the MSM covered for. As for the Oral Office, that wasn’t the issue. It was Whitewater and a couple of other things that were illegal that were being investigated for impeachment. Clinton was also involved in the raping of newly liberated Russia, as he, wifey and the “Harvard Boys” along with of course George Soros stole many many billions from them, and ruined any chance of them being ALLIES!!!! Dave Rywall, please read a book by former Communist David Horowitz, “The Shadow Party”. This should give you a true view of what the Clintons were really all about. Then again, you’re an ideologue who doesn’t give a whit about truth, just a Welfare Nanny Stater with Daddy issues. Hell, you’re not even an American. Sucks to be you…..

I would like to add something here. The House brought impeachment charges against Bill Clinton and a trial was held in the Senate. The House prosecuted the charges against Bill Clinton and the Senate failed to convict Bill Clinton of the charges. There were many Republicans that voted not to convict, the Republicans in the Senate don’t have spines or cajones, and are afraid of the press(MSM). Bill Clinton knowingly LIED to a court of law and essentially got away with it. Don’t bother telling me about his law license, that was nothing more than a slap on the wrist. He swore an oath to uphold the laws of the land and couldn’t live by his oath. He set the bar for acceptable behavior by politicians and we have seen it more and more.

The Senate couldn’t do the right thing when they should have and we are now reaping the consequences of that decision, with a President flipping off oversight, Congressional members flouting laws and behavior that would get them fired from a real job. We have gotten what we asked for by being nothing more than sheeples…Baaaaa, Baaaaaa, Baaaaaaaaa….

You can bet that at sometime over this past weekend, Nancy Pelosi called Anthony Weiner and told him that the entire Democrat Establishment would stand vigorously behind him and would circle the wagons around him providing he gave her his personal assurances that he didn’t do this and was indeed the ‘victim’ here. At which point, Anthony Weiner assured her that he wasn’t lying.

You can also bet that, when Nancy watched that press conference yesterday wherein Anthony Weiner admitted that he’d lied to everybody, she realized that she had been duped by a junior Congressman out of New York, and so now has no sympathy for him and is out to destroy him. Powerful people on the Left, like Nancy Pelosi, DESTROY those who have betrayed them.

After Barney Frank was publicly identified as having a residence from which a male prostitution ring was conducted, and Frank returned to WORK IN CONGRESS, the Democrats gave Frank a standing ovation.

A standing ovation.

You can bet that Nancy Pelosi called for an ethics investigation on the acerbic liar, Weiner. And then she moved on to ‘important matters’.

The Democrats ‘investigating’ ethics is like the crocodile who inspects the chickens on the line over the side of the tourist boat: when they’re done, only a few lines are hanging around and all the water is really, really still.
