Quotes of the day

“Call it ‘The Politics of Doing Whatever the Heck I Want.’ There she went again, disrespecting the almighty ‘process,’ playing by her own rules and seeming not to give a flying hoot what anyone thought about it. That included the so-called key Republicans, party insiders and self-important activists whom she also seemed to ignore en route. These are many of the same people who trashed Ms. Palin’s bus tour as ill-conceived and disorganized in (often anonymous) comments to the wild-goose-chasers…

“What was most striking about the bus odyssey was the apparent relish Ms. Palin seemed to take in driving reporters nuts. While there have been numerous media-loathing politicians over the years, no possible candidate of Ms. Palin’s wattage has so blatantly blown off (or actively thwarted) the trailing press corps to the degree that she did.

“I’m all for political people extending every courtesy to us poor, pampered media types. The predictability afforded by such courtesies is often our friend, especially with a deadline looming. But as someone who has consumed —and contributed to — a massive body of predictable campaign coverage over the years, I find something refreshing about the ‘winging it’ approach. And it was instructive to see the media so disoriented upon being deprived of the familiar setups, set-pieces and bubble-like environments of a modern presidential campaign.”

“I thought she was a boffo performance today. It was the first time that I ever saw her and thought ‘this woman is a serious – if she decides to run – candidate for President. And a serious possibility to be President.’”

Exactly how is a failed 1/2 term governor going to keep the 63% that hate her from supporting a successful 2 term senator that has the same basic philosophy? By calling that 63% morons, trolls, and idiots?

One by actually thinking…quaint concept.

A interesting fact:
In the BEST Democrat year since probably 1964, Obama got less than 53% of the vote. I think (didn’t recheck) that is the HIGHEST vote for a Dem Presidential Candidate since 1964. Clinton didn’t hit 50% in either of his wins, don’t remember IF Carter barely hit 50% in 1976.

So Obama adds 10%? maybe, yet unlikely, no matter who is the opponent.

We’ll see.

I don’t think she has any intention of running. As for how some blog commenters I’d say the unfavorables in the polls show that the people you are referring to are in the distinct minority relative to the rest of the country. But if she were to run (something that would shock me since she has done nothing to date to lay out the necessary campaign infrastructure for a run) I’m sure the media would use many of those posts to marginalize her as representing the wackadoodle wing….

Um, csdeven, Peter Wehner at Commentary, lots of others: if it is true that Palin is hated by 63% of the public, or 59%, or any similar ghastly number, then there is no way she wins the nomination. The reason csdeven posts obsessively and the reason Wehner has to warn us of a Palin Disaster is the knowledge that that number is subject to change and that Palin may very well win the nomination if she runs.

Well, I will say this. If Palin is the nominee she will not hestitate to tell the American public who the real Obama is, including his past and current relations and connections. Unlike McCain, who was afraid to even mention Obama’s name it seems … Palin will attack Obama with gusto. That’s something that will have impact, no matter how hard the press tries to spin it Obama’s way.

Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere “warned the British” during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.

In fact, Revere’s own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palin’s claim.

Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, “Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, ‘Look, there is a mobilization going on that you’ll be confronting,’ and the British are aware as they’re marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing — she was right about that — and warning shots being fired. That’s accurate.”

Patrick Leehey of the Paul Revere House said Revere was probably bluffing his British captors, but reluctantly conceded that it could be construed as Revere warning the British.

Your opinions don’t really matter. facts are facts. Palin was right.

If Palin doesn’t run, then I’ll vote the most conservative person left in the primaries. And if they don’t win, I’ll vote for whoever on the R ticket.

powerpro on June 6, 2011 at 8:47 AM

Fair enough.

Bradky on June 6, 2011 at 9:02 AM

Palin’s delivery of the Paul Revere thing was certainly less than perfect, but what’s hilarious is to watch the PDSers try to grab this as The Thing That Is Sure To Destroy Palin This Time. It never does. LOL

Palin isn’t fred. Fred was McCain’s stalking horse. Palin is in it to win it.

Using a phrase that Randy Jackson used over and over on American Idol is cute..
Can you support the stalking horse claim with any facts?

Bradky on June 6, 2011 at 9:12 AM

She’s anything but a quitter. In fact, by resigning, she took the tough path and put herself into more danger, not less.

Okay, which is it….did she quit for the people of Alaska or to show how tough she was?

I’ve had the gut feeling about Fred for awhile now… I supported him too.. but looking back at the timing of things, and who’s support he help siphon off…

It’s hard not to consider that he was playing a helping hand for his former colleague.

powerpro on June 6, 2011 at 9:14 AM

You know what’s funny? All those people who still can’t admit that Sarah was right about Paul Revere when even the LA Times and Boston Herald were forced to admit that historians agree with Sarah. Some of the comments:

The author of the article doesn’t even know what Palin said. She said nothing about Revere getting captured and defiantly telling the British of their plans. She said Revere set out to warn the British, which is obviously not true.

The fact Palin might have clumsily come close to what happened, though still not accurate, does not make her right. She was not privy to a more detailed account that the rest of us. She still did not know the facts of the event. She is still an idiot.

Posted by: Sense and Sensability | June 06, 2011 at 04:59 AM

When you defend Sarah’s botched up Revere story, you sound exactly like some one defending that Germany bombed Pearl Harbor screw up. THAT is the point.

LOL

False comparison.

She left office because of the financial and legal burdens on herself and her families.

Additionally, it positioned her to be able to fire off significant volleys toward the leftist policies of this administration.

It’s not an either/or. It’s both. But the primary reason was due to the crippling frivolous complaints.

Good gravy. The fact that her comments have to be explained and the true context modified a different way every day is clue enough that she simply screwed up.

Bradky on June 6, 2011 at 9:02 AM

She’s certainly not the only one, but she has been a target of the left beyond anything I’ve seen before, which leads me to believe she has had more than her share of threats. You derided the idea that she faced danger, and calling you on that isn’t the same as “making it sound like she’s the only one”. If you really believe they “should not be minimized”, you could concede the point.

There is no point to concede. By your logic we should be lauding everyone who gets a death threat as some kind of hero because they do get death threats.
Which means you should be absolutely going gaga to defend the president as he has his fair share as well. Even Hillary had someone actually make plans to go to Baton Rouge to take her out during the 08 campaign.
It doesn’t make any of them more or less attractive as a candidate. That is the point.

Chris W looked like he’s got a little Sarah crush goin’ on. He actually giggled one time. Don’t think he was ever in her corner until yesterday. He asked people later who were on his ‘panel’ about the interview and they still claimed she has no ‘gravitas’ and needs to talk policy specifics. No one who saw the interview would be able to say that. The tools are going to keep repeating the meme of the day.

This is rich, coming from someone who insists that what Palin said is equivalent to claiming that the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

I guess it also means that if someone like you comes along and spreads falsehoods about Person X, then the fact that we insist on refuting those falsehoods just indicates that the screwup is all on Person X, not on the jerk spreading the falsehoods.

Wait, “jerk”? Ohhh, there I go, name-calling again. LOL.

I’m not.

Jenfidel on June 6, 2011 at 11:16 AM

I find it rather amusing and at the same time annoying, that some on every Palin thread, spout the same bullcrap. They can’t argue with her on issues and you have to ask your self why. No she, as the great one says, is solid on all conservative issues. Speaks to these issues very well, and truly believes what she says. No they, like the spoiled children they are, argue garbage. Paul Revere, 1773, and other supposed gaffs. Now all this leads me to believe that they are just here to highjack the treads, and I must say they are very successful. Trivial gaffs that mean nothing, and yet more time is spent arguing with them. I believe that Sarah is and will be the lion tamer that takes the elites in the Republican party and Obama down. They fear this woman more than anything on this planet. Go Sarah keep messing with these little kids heads, sooner or later they will explode.
