Weiner’s office finally calls police — on reporter trying to interview him about Weinergate; Update: Lefty pundits turning on Weiner?
posted at 7:25 pm on June 2, 2011 by Allahpundit
Isn’t this the same guy who suggested, just 24 hours ago, that costly and time-consuming police action should be reserved only for serious criminal matters? Did I hallucinate that? Fast-forward to today and he’s got Capitol Police rushing to his office to hassle a reporter who’s still covering this story only because this tool refuses to ask the FBI to investigate the hacking.
Hey, remember last week when Weiner had a future in politics?
Kramer walked in to Weiner’s office, announced herself as being from CBS 2 in New York City and said she’d like to see the congressman. Those few words created quite the stir. Doors slammed and people pretended she wasn’t there.
Finally, brave press secretary David Arnold arrived…
After Kramer left Weiner’s office, his staff called the Capitol Police.
Police officers asked for identification. One cop told Kramer that if she went into Weiner’s office and didn’t leave if she was asked, she could be arrested.
“If you go to an office and are asked to leave, you can be placed under arrest,” Officer Michael Miller said.
Kramer responded, “But I wasn’t refusing to leave.”
He can’t claim that his staffers didn’t recognize her. Kramer’s been on the air in NYC for more than 20 years at CBS. She’s surely interviewed Weiner before. If they’re throwing her out of the office, it’s because they really, really don’t want to say anything more to the media that might keep this story alive. In which case, it only makes sense to … try to have a reporter arrested, thereby guaranteeing another full day of sensational coverage. Fancy thinkin’.
I think we’re finally ready to move past the “Weiner is horrible in a crisis” narrative and embark on the exciting new “Weiner has a barely disguised professional death wish” narrative instead. Speaking of which, the mother of the woman who received the now-legendary tweet joins the rest of America in wondering why he won’t just ‘fess up already, since the lingering mystery has left her daughter to twist in the wind:
The furious mom of the Seattle college coed at the center of Weinergate yesterday demanded that the cocky congressman come clean about the lewd photo.
“I’m really upset. I feel like he’s a person of power and influence, who can make a statement and make all this go away,” Carol Mizuguchi said, blasting Rep. Anthony Weiner for his continued snarky sidestepping.
“As her mother, I’m really upset,” Mizuguchi told The Post. “I’m pissed off at that.”
I know I speak for all of us when I say: Why is Mrs. Mizuguchi trying to distract America from income inequality?
Here’s the video from CBS; it’s comforting to know that we will indeed get a full week’s worth of blog content out of AW after all. And if you’re still hung up on yesterday’s fizzling “Yfrog defense” of Weiner, read this new analysis from techie George Gooding. There’s even less to the original defense than thought.
Update: Via Mediaite, for the second day in a row, Chris Matthews makes no secret of his skepticism about Weiner’s story. And at TNR, of all places, Jonathan Chait has a short but must-read post entitled “Anthony Weiner’s Skeeziness.” I don’t care if you watch the vid, but follow that last link at least. If he’s drawing headlines like that in famously liberal magazines, it really is all over.

OmahaConservative on June 2, 2011 at 8:51 PM
Back when this story first broke, someone named ‘pedestrian’ was here furiously trying to convince people that this story would be forgotten by now. So where oh where is that discredited weiner defender now?
pearson on June 2, 2011 at 8:55 PM
Did you see all the people enployed in his freaking office? Holy Crude, no wonder we’re broke.
And yes Ms Kramer, if you sneak into someone’s office to get a peek at the weiner, someone will call the cops.

You just have to believe that Weiner will be last seen…
… in a really cheesy porn movie made in the back ally of a Tijuana whore house.

Does this make Weiner the pivot man? Just wondering.

woodcdi on June 2, 2011 at 9:06 PM
IIRC, I said people would forget in a week from last Monday or so. Hard to believe it is already Thursday and this is still going on. As it is, the story has moved from the wienergram itself to wienerly behavior of Wiener since then. Anthony must be so proud that he will go down in history as the person who gave the name Weiner a bad connotation.

Well, they do enjoy that stroking, don’t they? Makes them feel so very good to abuse one of their own… a form of self-abuse it is…
ajacksonian on June 2, 2011 at 9:13 PM
Eight? Eight separate posts on Anthony Weiner?
Hey, AP, how many posts did you do on David Vitter or Larry Craig? How many John Ensign posts have you run? I’ll bet if you put them all together, they don’t total eight.

That’s why he has the time to play games on Twitter.

hillbillyjim on June 2, 2011 at 9:21 PM
They write themselves!
hawkdriver on June 2, 2011 at 9:22 PM
I count 8 posts on Larry Craig at HA. Just 2 on Vitter.
And because of the way Weinger is wetting himself in public, you can expect there to be more about him as he continues his inanity. My bet is the posts will stop the moment he does the ‘right thing’ and steps down from office as a disgrace like is the IMMEDIATE calls on Craig and Vitters… you want Weiner to get out of the spotlight? Then call for him to step down and stop making a spectacle of himself.
ajacksonian on June 2, 2011 at 9:22 PM
Hey, we may see the pie scenario play out. Weiner is giving a speech at the Wisconsin Democratic Party Convention this weekend.

I don’t think we even need to rationalize it to Chumpthreads, (who I strongly believe is the former DeathToMediaHacks, a noted Hot Air liar).
Chumpthreads, you’re lucky to even be able to comment here. On your lefty threads, they censor and moderate ANY adverse opinion from their threads.
I have accounts with HuffPo, War Is A Crime (formally known as AfterDowningStreet) Code Pink and DU and I haven’t been allowed a comment out of moderation for longer than I can remember.
So GFY, why? Because GFY!

hawkdriver on June 2, 2011 at 9:30 PM
Now there is an oldie troll from before getalife, even.
.
IIRC, he was a black gay dude who played the race and gay card a lot…
OmahaConservative on June 2, 2011 at 9:34 PM
It is a demonstration of the power of a search engine for rapid response.
Trolls need to understand that their inanities can be easily countered within a very short period of time when they are trying to impugn the character of an individual or site. And that was a very personal attack for covering a character that is far more outrageous in his reaction and timing to accusations than either of the others he brought up. Weiner is the cause of his own problems… covering this flame-out is something HA does Left or Right, but the character of the people involved drives the story.
Trolls need to understand what lazy people they are… and that fires can get lit on their bridges very quickly these days, unlike the early days of the ‘net.
ajacksonian on June 2, 2011 at 9:34 PM
You’re either new here or have a very bad memory. He11 I remember the whole front page was about Ann Counter’s comments at CPAC. Ditto Maccaca-gate. Ditto any other number of Conservative mini-scandals. In fact, it’s refreshing to see a Leftist finally get the HA treatment.
TheBigOldDog on June 2, 2011 at 9:38 PM
And how many John “get my parents to pay $96,000 to the man who is being cuckolded by me” Ensign posts have there been on HA?
Sure it’s a conservative blog, but Weiner (who may well have been hacked) on one hand and Ensign, Vitter, Craig on the other…
chumpThreads on June 2, 2011 at 9:39 PM
YRC. And he was a noted liar.
Very well stated.

hillbillyjim on June 2, 2011 at 9:44 PM
Maybe if we could count on you to bust on your own guys a little bit, when they deserved it, we’d bust on ours more. Again, if I tried to post a comment on Code Pink asking why they weren’t more critical of Obama over Libya, it’d never get past moderation. Do you understand how much luckier you are than us, to be a troll on a conservative site that actually prints what you say? Do you understand our lack of sympathy for you since I wouldn’t have a snowballs chance in he11 of getting a comment posted on a lib site? Do you understand? Do you?

Weiner certainly hasn’t helped himself, and I definitely am not defending him. But there’s no indication that he’s done anything illegal, and yes, he may have been hacked. But really, is this worthy of eightseparate posts?
But hey, I understand. You conservatives don’t get a chance to pig-pile on a Democrat very often. Usually it’s a family values, conservative Republican who’s being told to “put on your pants and go home”.

So basically the culprit is someone with “physical” control of Congressman Anthony Weiner’s “Backberry” and his tweeter account along with whatever associated passwords required.
The culprit may or may not have used an actual untouched photo of Weiner’s junk and Weiner was able to get “physical” control of his “Backberry” back within 4 min.
