Obamateurism of the Day

Put this one in the If George Bush said it category. I’ve heard of college students studying at sea for a year, but I’ve never heard of an entire school afloat:
The son of a Marine, Travis aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps and was accepted by the USS [sic] Naval Academy.
The White House inserted the [sic] after President Obama delivered the prepared remarks on Memorial Day. Maybe TOTUS hiccuped … or maybe we should call it TOTUSS from now on.

Thanx for the reminder. Some of us also referred to the Neverdock as any ship that rarely docked or got to liberty ports. Things like that got me to finally accept orders for USS Backyard (where every port was going to be a liberty port and the smoking lamp was always lit).

As you may know, that didn’t used to be completely so. As Jonah Goldberg noted in Liberal Fascism, militarism was the wave of the future; therefore, facsists tended to latch onto it. Maybe it’s more fair to say that in our country the fascist left likes militarism as they imagine it but may not know much about the real military. Yes/no?

The Coast Guard has the USCG Barque Eagle as a floating classroom. I served on board as an ET back in the early 90′s. We had some Naval Academy middies come on board for a couple of weeks for cross-service training. They were frickn’ useless at real sailing. I guess they skimp the seamanship lessons in Annapolis. I think they are better versed in tactics and strategy, though. Different missions.
