Martin Bashir: I think Palin might be breaking federal law by putting the flag on her bus or something; Update: MSNBC flag videos added

posted at 4:19 pm on June 1, 2011 by Allahpundit

In case you missed it yesterday at Newsbusters. No surprises here, of course: If you saw Bashir’s ridiculous interview with Breitbart last month, you already know what he thinks of outspoken conservatives. Palin must be guilty of something; all he needs to do is come up with some offense and charge her for it. I’m surprised he didn’t go ABC’s route and obliquely accuse her of financial hypocrisy instead. Via JWF:

When asked, twice, how much her “One Nation Tour” has cost four days into the trip, she got visibly irritated.

“Check SarahPAC.com,” she said. “I don’t know why in the world you would ask a question like that. I’m just thinking about America and our foundations and our freedoms and our opportunities. Why would you ask something …”

ABC News pointed out that she often talks about the economy and how much money we’re spending.

“What does our economy have to do with how much we’re — I’m not asking you to pay for a penny of this trip,” she said.

Ending tourism as we know it is a core plank of the fiscal conservative message according to ABC, I guess. As for Bashir’s mumbling, his own network was known in recent years to intertwine its corporate logo with a graphic of a fluttering American flag. But maybe MSNBC’s exempt from the “no flag advertisements” rule, since they’re standing up for truth ‘n stuff. Exit question: Seriously, is she running or isn’t she? RCP’s sources said this morning that the bus tour will now include stops in South Carolina along with Iowa and New Hampshire. Later Palin herself told ABC that she plans to return to Alaska after the east coast swing of the tour ends and then to re-launch it on the west coast. Sure sounds like she’s in — except that, according to Ben Smith, she met with Fox News execs this afternoon and there’s still no change in her status as a contributor “right now.” Maybe she told them she’s still genuinely undecided but leaning towards yes, with a decision to come shortly? Over/under on an announcement: July 1.

Update: Reason TV administers the coup de grace.

Watching Gloria Borger on CNN right now. She is saying that a lot of “people” find Sarah Palin too negative have no idea where Sarah Palin stands on the issues. LOL Unlike Borger, and the other media elite who worship at the alter of Obama, Sarah Palin is questioning what is happening to America, so that must be negative. She also said she wants to have a look at the 25,000 emails that will soon be released from the State of Alaska. It’s too bad that Gloria and the rest of the media never seemed interested in Obama’s past.

Reporting from the Communist News Network

idesign on June 1, 2011 at 4:56 PM

Oy vey, these people are friggin’ spoiled. See, journalism nowadays with reporters covering issues all over the world do need to stay at hotels. I guess the hotels never left their collective brains.

1-She is saying that a lot of “people” find Sarah Palin too negative – That seed was planted in 2008. By you, media. Now have you asked why “people” feel so negative about her? IMHO, exchange the word “people” with “sources” and it is the same negative message that you continue to post about Governor Palin, CNN.

2-have no idea where Sarah Palin stands on the issues. – Curious, isn’t it, that this is the same wording of liberal bloggers and left-wing dingbats…parrot the same message, and eventually it will stick. Why continue on that road, CNN, and do the homework about the issues she’s been blogging and tweeting about since she started to do so? Why continue on that road, CNN, when all you should do is copy/paste her Facebook posts, or print them out and feed them to your prompter? That would be a great way to brag about impartiality.

3-She also said she wants to have a look at the 25,000 emails that will soon be released from the State of Alaska. – CNN you will get your chance. Now, will that satisfy your curiosity since there are some that can’t be disclosed? Wouldn’t you want those disclosed too? Ok, CNN drop Weinergate and play some hard ball (pun intended):

Get Wikileaks on the case and disclose everything about Obama. Why? Because, a-you won’t do your homework on your own President of the United states; and b-reading the Anchorage Daily News’ commenters were as acid as those of Kos kids.

Comedy Central is doing a great job of mocking Palin. They’re bringing up the same question too. They brought an attorney to confirm that she can use her PAC for those expenses. And they still found it appalling!

Now Ms. Borger, there’s something called notebook. Add to that a pen, and do real old-fashioned journalism, starting with her bio and work your way till now. I don’t expect empathy from you because journalists are not supposed to have any. And Except for FOX, CNN has been nothing but downright cruel.

I pray to God that you don’t have a member of your family-or yourself-to go through the same scrutiny. Personally I don’t think you would last eight hours.

well this explains the head explosions at MSNBC

Sarah Palin Takes Manhattan (and Jersey City)

Sarah Palin continued her whirlwind tour of the city Wednesday, making stops at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty before visiting her bosses at Fox News.

Palin, whose much-hyped journey to the nation’s historic sites has fueled speculation that she’s gearing up to run for President, traded in her bus for a National Parks Service boat when she began her day at Ellis Island.

Tourists visiting the former first stop for immigrants entering the United States did a double-take when they spotted the celebrity pseudo-candidate.

“She shook students and hands and said ‘Hi kids, how are you doing?’” said Ruth Marcello, 61, an elementary school teacher from Nut Swamp, NJ who was chaperoning a class when Palin arrived just before 8:30 a.m.

“She was very friendly, very nice, very pretty,” said Marcello.

Wearing a black shirt, white pants and Star of David necklace, Palin shook hands with the class and happily posed for photos with the students.

When one boy noticed her necklace, he exclaimed “Hey, the Jewish star!”

“Yes, it is!,” responded Palin, who then put her hand over the necklace and gave the kid a high-five.

“I thought it was cool,” said Kayla McClutchey, 11, who also gave the former governor of Alaska a high-five. “I heard she was running for President and I was like ‘Whoa…’”

With her parents and daughter Piper in tow, Palin then took a 30-minute tour of the Ellis Island before riding the boat over to Lady Liberty.

“We’ll highlight the beauty of legal immigrants’ work ethic and love of freedom while visiting Ellis Island & Statue of Liberty,” Palin tweeted just before her voyage on New York Harbor.

When she emerged from the statue an hour later, a high school band visiting from Illinois broke into a rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner, as Palin covered her heart and the waiting news photographers snapped away.

“She looks better in person \[and\] she’s definitely got my vote if she tries to run for President,” said Clayton Tarpley, 19, who snapped a picture with Palin and declared: “It’s going on Facebook.”

After returning to her Jersey City hotel to pick up her bus, Palin then ventured into Midtown to meet with executives at Fox. She has worked for the cable news network and would have to resign her job if she runs for President.

It was not clear if she would sit down for an interview with Fox News.

Palin, whose tour has included stops in Washington, Gettysburg, Pa., and Philadelphia, arrived in New York City late Tuesday to meet with Donald Trump and share a pizza with the reality TV star.

The next stops of her guerilla-style tour are rumored to be Boston and then on to New Hampshire, the site of 2012’s first presidential primary.

Palin also announced today that the tour would continue in the western part of the country later this summer.

ABC News pointed out that she often talks about the economy and how much money we’re spending.

“What does our economy have to do with how much we’re — I’m not asking you to pay for a penny of this trip,” she said.

Priceless.

Gee, why would she get irritated?

But is anyone surprised the media can’t distinguish between government spending and private spending?

I admire Sarah Palin but I think it’d be a disaster for the Republicans to nominate her because I don’t think she can be elected. Her negatives with the opposition and independent are just too much to overcome. Her nomination would likely mobilize more people in the opposition than her own base. They really hate her. I can get liberal friends of mine to start frothing at the mouth by just saying Palin.

In that way she’s more polarizing than Reagan. Remember, Ronald Reagan may have been polarizing, but he had a genial, affable manner that could disarm people. I don’t think that Sarah has that arrow in her quiver. She’s too confrontational by nature. Reagan was the one who said that someone who agreed 70% with him wasn’t 30% his enemy.

I just think she’s too vulnerable as a general candidate. If Palin decides to do what’s best for the country and the GOP, she’ll stay on the sidelines.

I agree with her a ton, I just don’t think she’s electable.

Of course if they really want to drive the left nuts, it’ll be a Bachmann /Palin ticket. Actually, the GOP could nominate a number of tickets that would drive the regressives into catatonic shock: Jindal/West Cain/Haley. It’d drive the racialists and gender feminists on the left up a wall.

Unfortunately the song is written by brain dead lefty Bruce Springsteen (and the E Street Band’s version of the tune makes Manfred Mann plastic and overproduced by comparison). Of course it was from one of his first three albums, when he still had some songwriting chops.

I will say this about Manfred Mann, he’s had quite the career. I just found out that Jack Bruce played bass on Pretty Flamingo.

rokemronnie on June 1, 2011 at 6:01 PM

She’s pretty magnetic. No one had heard of Obama until he gave a magnetic speech at the 2004 DNC and suddenly everyone seriously considered him. It only takes one defining event to change “what everybody knows”. If her rollout goes well her approval ratings could change very quickly.

Too negative? You mean because she criticizes Dear Leader? God forbid someone actually call out Obama for what he’s doing to this country. Has Borger even looked at the economic data this week or is that too negative for her?

Doughboy on June 1, 2011 at 4:57 PM

That is exactly what they mean. It’s also what they mean when they say she’s too polarizing, or a “bomb-thrower” (violent rhetoric alert!), or mean.

And it’s probably also what they mean when they call her stupid or inexperienced. Some people get very upset when you don’t bow to their idols.

There Goes The Neighborhood on June 1, 2011 at 6:10 PM

When sixteen people streaked to Alaska to dig for any dirt at all about Palin I knew this was an act of terror for the lazy left. I’m tired of lawyers and their vocation being a certification of qualification to hold an elected office. We have too many lawyers in Congress that haven’t a clue what’s being pulled over their eyes as I write this and just as bad is the population who join them. I fear the filth and dirt that we will need to endure for the next sixteen months.

*smiling broadly, waving at the monitor*

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!

It did have to do with this bus tour, especially when I found out she had ten vehicles trailing behind them, following their every move. Did you see the images from Twitter when she got to NYC yesterday? Whoa!

No, nothing to do with July or July 4th because it’s a long ways away and I am not sure if it’d be proper for her to announce on that day (yes, I am level-headed today).

Tell you what, JB: Everybody has to go back and read her bio (myself included); then go back to your own childhood and match up. Once you figure that out, Allahpundit’s question will pop on your head.

The answer: No matter what, her fans will be waiting for her.

Been on TweetDeck following the #bustour and there’s another one called #chasingpalin. I noticed it’s slowed down, and more and more people are getting disenchanted-esp. those that wanna have everything served in a platter, just like I wrote.

What’s happening right now? Fabrications and misinformation is making the rounds again. I told my sis everything and texted her my blog link, SarahPAC’s link, C4P from what I remember. FOX was taken off the cable lineup in Puerto Rico, so she doesn’t get to see what we see (dammit!)

What I did tell her was to tune in to CNN and watch the media lambasting her.

I agree with you there, but also the opinion expressed has been rebutted in detail so often some people think there is an agenda in expressing it over and over again.

I understand the frustration to an extent, but in the long run it is better to deal with what is actually said than theories about why it is being said.

Brian1972 on June 1, 2011 at 6:49 PM

Haha, PBS/NPR. They are not in the news business for dirty profit, they are only interested in truth for the people./

miConsevative on June 1, 2011 at 6:50 PM

Lil Marty didn’t have a problem with THIS obviously commercial use of the US Flag.

It’s not even close – the Flag is actually being used to sell these pieces of crap.

And crap they are.

Two things:

1. Why should we Palin skeptics be upset with JetBoy? We may not agree with his choice, but it is a reasoned choice. We won’t turn on him for having a dissenting opinion. Unlike the purity brigade here.

2. The fact that he’s ALREADY referred to some of the Palinistas here as “knuckleheads” means he knows the score. Palin may have his support. That doesn’t mean he supports some of YOU, though.

You’re still aces in my book, JB. I’ll buy you a drink at next year’s CPAC.

Vyce on June 1, 2011 at 6:51 PM

Enjoy him while you can. He’ll be back in the arms of us RINO candyasses come the next gay marriage thread, wherein many of the resident HotAir ‘nistas / “true cons” enlighten him by waxing about how gays like him are part of some grand Marxist conspiracy to destroy America.

Don’t take this as raggin’ on ya…but it is called “Conservatives FOR (4) Palin”, so there probably won’t be, nor should be expected, criticism. Wait ’till I start commenting there tho… ;) I keed, I keed.

But here, it’s not “Hot 4 Palin Air”…so we can criticize here. And the more ardent (if you will) ‘nistas just have to deal with it. I don’t even converse with the nasty, vile one’s…and that won’t change.

There are also sites you can go to if you can’t handle any praise of the woman, or rebuttals of criticism.

Another thing, don’t lump me in with some group or club or whatever.

I am a single individual, I like Sarah Palin, am not ashamed to say so or explain why.

My choice is a reasoned choice.

That all right with you?

There are also plenty of Palin skeptics I have encountered who are “knuckleheads” in their own right, but I am not going to assume that you are one of them unless you prove it yourself.

That is how I like to roll.

Brian1972 on June 1, 2011 at 7:09 PM

No, they weren’t. Under Section 4 of the U.S. Flag Code, printing anything on the flag, or printing the flag on anything for sale, appears to be a misdemeanor. Simply using the flag as a backdrop is neither illegal nor a violation of the Flag Code.

Mary in LA on June 1, 2011 at 5:16 PM

OK, let’s say that the flag appears on the DVD case for the movie. Misdemeanor?

cmsinaz on June 1, 2011 at 7:13 PM

Of course MSNBC can use the flag if the definition of constitutional use requires a non-profit venture.

They have been using flags legally for years in that case.

I have to point out that what I said at 5:16 was wrong. BobMbx correctly said that according to the Flag Code, printing the flag on items for sale is a misdemeanor only in Washington DC.

No, totally believable and expected.

The left is full of thugs who literally have nothing better to do with their time and less still in their intellectual capacity than attack other people’s private property and persons.

A quick perusal of news coverage of any given WTO riot, er, “demonstration” is ample evidence of this.

Vyce on June 1, 2011 at 7:21 PM

This is true.

My point is that during a discussion, I write 6 or 7 multi-paragraph posts detailing the history of Palin’s career, what I like about it, what issues I agree with her on, what I like about her as a person, what she proposes to do for the country, then I get called a blind cultist worshiping emotional basket case, dismissing everything I have said in one snarky insult.

Can you see how that may be a little frustrating at times?

Brian1972 on June 1, 2011 at 7:30 PM

OmahaConservative on June 1, 2011 at 7:16 PM

They’re going to really go nuts when their campaign results in the reverse of the desired effect.

Eventually, even to the most jaded passers-by of the political spectrum, enough becomes enough and they begin to sympathize with the victim of such relentless attack.

Especially when the attacks become so petty, so childish and so lacking in substance.

The longer the campaign, the more her detractors look like children, the more people are going to view her sympathetically.

Funny correlation between sympathy and support, it’s not directly proportionate, but it can get awful close.

SuperCool on June 1, 2011 at 7:32 PM

I should care because?

JB seems like is a decent, sincere person. It doesn’t bother me any if he wants to dream about what will never be whatever he pleases. He also seems capable enough of handling the inevitable disappointment hangover when he finds out that the one you worship he supports is isn’t going to run. I’m worried about you, MJBrutus, though. The anti palin moby concern routine often starts with palin does something, like a bus tour.

Palinistas then say: “Bus tour , could be smart or even brilliant!”

Anti palin critter: “Bus tour , oh no, I loved Palin before, but this is stupid , she’s not serious , it’s proof she’s not running, you’re all cultist retards , and now you will unfairly call us names”
