DSK 2.0: Another international banker arrested for sexual assault

posted at 10:10 am on May 31, 2011 by Tina Korbe

Is it two weeks ago? Because the headline is almost exactly the same. An international moneyman has been arrested in New York City for allegedly assaulting a hotel maid.

Mahmoud Abdel-Salam Omar — the 74-year-old former chairman of Egypt’s Bank of Alexandria — allegedly groped and “gyrated” against the maid in Room 1027 at The Pierre hotel on Fifth Avenue, a law-enforcement source told The Post.

He was wearing a bathrobe at the time, but it was not clear what, if anything, he had on under it.

The alleged attack came just two weeks after Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund, was charged with sexually assaulting a maid at the Sofitel hotel in Midtown.

Omar is now the head of El.Mex Salinas, a Middle East-based salt-mining company. The 44-year-old maid reported the incident yesterday morning, alleging the assault took place Sunday night. The hotel called the cops at about 9:30 a.m. yesterday. Omar was taken into custody at the hotel, taken to the 19th Precinct station house and charged with sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching and harassment.

Original it’s not — but it’s no less disappointing for having been done before.

Talk about a salty old dog!

This is yet further proof that there is something about fame and/or having loads of money that does something funny to the brain cells of some people.

The nerve of this guy!

“Maybe we should have our staff trained to deal with that type of person,” he said. “You never know who you are going to run into.”

Arm the maids with tasers.

Probably going on for the longest; one finally had courage enough to say something. Of course, this could be a matter of milking a situation for money as well.

That South Park episode about “sex addiction” had a great bit on this, where they did a chimp study in which a regular chimp was given a bunch of money and then it went insane, starting to hump everything that moved before being whacked in the head with a rolling pin by its mate.

Poor Abdel-Salam Omar is going to also have to pay with non-stop jokes over the next few days from the late-night comedians, if only to fulfill their daily sex-scandal joke quotient without having to do any one-liners about Congressman Weiner.

Sometimes I think elderly people just act inappropriately due to brain changes. A friend was telling me about her 95 year old neighbor who couldn’t keep housekeepers because he was always grabbing them and exposing himself to them. He then discovered the internet and ran up thousands of dollars for internet porn. I think he might have even ordered escorts. This all happened when he was quite elderly.

Blake on May 31, 2011 at 10:23 AM

Man, this keeps up and some kung-fu master out there is going to make a load of money offering classes exclusively to hotel maids.

Who knew that being a maid in NYC required hazzard pay and/or mace.

gophergirl on May 31, 2011 at 10:27 AM

Question: How can this guy be so bold as to think he could get away with this behaviour when just two weeks ago someone else couldn’t?
Attempted answer: This has been a problem for a long time and only surfacing now.

Actually, it’s Egypt. I wonder what side he is on.

Until the Taiwanese animators release a video of the event, I remain skeptical.

Plus, being a muslim, he expects women to do as they are told, when they are told and how they are told.

Keep the little blue pills away from this guy.

Arm the maids with tasers. – Blake

Great idea … except that sooner or later this’ll happen …

“Ma’am, can I bother you for an extra towel? … Is that a tas… AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”

Tony737 on May 31, 2011 at 10:35 AM

Paging Ben Stein, Ben Stein to the white courtesy phone. We need your opinion of how the guy couldn’t have done this.

rbj on May 31, 2011 at 10:39 AM

Options:
1) The maid is truthful, and the guy is a perv
2) The maid set the guy up for money (copycat)
3) The maid set the guy up because he is backing someone in Egypt.

Who knows.

faraway on May 31, 2011 at 10:43 AM

They need to hire this woman as a maid.

Oldnuke on May 31, 2011 at 10:46 AM

In a Muslim country, the maid would get in trouble reporting this.

This horndog did this knowing that in his country, she would be charged with adultery and stoned. Send the bastard to Rikers. Ach! But then, he’d enjoy that!

SilentWatcher on May 31, 2011 at 12:07 PM

I have to look into this. There might ba a market for an upscale hotel, catering to high internation govt types, where the staff can interact with the hotel guests if you know what I mean.

Rich on May 31, 2011 at 12:18 PM

These things don’t happen in isolation. The kind of person who does this sort of thing is the kind of person who does this sort of thing.

Although rare, it’s possible that a seemingly good man might secretly plan an embezzlement for years, with no one the wiser. But sexuality doesn’t work that way. The way a man feels about women is present in every aspect of his life.

Any man who imposes himself on women is – always has been, and always will be – a lout. And everyone who knows him knows what he is. It’s only a question of how many sycophants and enablers he’s surrounded by. And liberals surround themselves with nothing else.

He forgot he wasn’t in an Arab country where the maid would be flogged and/or thrown into prison for tempting him, i.e., walking past him.

JimC on May 31, 2011 at 4:07 PM

Wow, I never knew how dangerous it was to be a maide in an upscale NYC hotel!

The good news is that with the publicity of these cases, the servant class knows they can report the assaults and be supported.

Rich powerful men have been getting away with this kind of behavior for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It’s good to see it coming to an end, hopefully.
