Good news: Obama botches toast to the queen

posted at 7:53 pm on May 24, 2011 by Allahpundit

Ah, now his “2008″ gaffe from earlier today is starting to make more sense. Turns out … he really is brain-damaged.

No, I kid. I think he, like Frank Drebin, simply doesn’t believe in silly ideas like having queens:

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.

But the president wasn’t done speaking.

“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began…

“To the Queen,” the president finally said.

He lifted his glass to her, she smiled a bit uncomfortably.

But because the song was playing, no one drank from his or her glass, including the president, who put his glass down on the table.

Protocol, apparently, requires the toastmaster to wait until after “God Save the Queen” plays and then begin the toast. But the almighty O waits for no sovereign, so he launched straight into his shpiel. To which I say, good for him. What else was the American revolution about, if not the right of the president to half-ass some formulaic niceties about the British monarch? He should have punctuated it with a weary “whatever” and downed the glass in one gulp.

This is why he doesn’t get invited to weddings, guys.

I think the Obamas have made it their goal to show their utter contempt for tradition. Because, like, they’re so cooooool.

Just curious, did Obama bow to the Queen, or does he save that for Arab princes?

“Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand with me [and they did]. . . .

and raise your glasses as I propose a toast to her Majesty”. . . [and they didn't. In fact not one person in the room picked up a glass other than Zero and the first non-lady(?). Meanwhile, Camilla shot a look at the Queen to see how she would handle it and took her cue from her.]

Zero didn’t notice, as he was reading the toast. Then the orchestra began to play. Buoyed by the dramatic effect, Zero’s voice swelled [thinking, 'dang, it's like they've set up Greek columns for me!'] as he quoted Shakespeare.

And then, alack and alas, he actually looked at the Queen, saw she held no glass, and put his on the table. His face revealed his utter mortification. Boy was he pissssed!

. . . and the Queen graciously raised her glass immediately as the song ended. /She didn’t drink to him either.

LOL Good times! But I am embarrassed for my country.

Allah, regardless of your feelings on the American Re-volution and its outcome, the fact remains that The Queen is the head-of-state of 53 countries comprising nearly 2 billion people or over 30% of the world’s population. If Obama can bow and scrape to tin pot middle eastern potentates he can damn well learn protocol and show The Queen the respect she and her position is due.

It’s impossible to separate out how much of this is “intentional” and how is “accidental.”

It’s all really the same thing: the result of Obama’s rabid, mindless rage toward what he thinks of as “Western Imperialist aggression.” Obama is literally incapable of thinking straight whenever he’s in the presence of anything or anyone associated with traditional western culture.

Read Dinesh D’Souza’s book. He lays out how Obama was inculcated with hatred, literally from birth.
