Good news: Obama botches toast to the queen

posted at 7:53 pm on May 24, 2011 by Allahpundit

Ah, now his “2008″ gaffe from earlier today is starting to make more sense. Turns out … he really is brain-damaged.

No, I kid. I think he, like Frank Drebin, simply doesn’t believe in silly ideas like having queens:

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.

But the president wasn’t done speaking.

“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began…

“To the Queen,” the president finally said.

He lifted his glass to her, she smiled a bit uncomfortably.

But because the song was playing, no one drank from his or her glass, including the president, who put his glass down on the table.

Protocol, apparently, requires the toastmaster to wait until after “God Save the Queen” plays and then begin the toast. But the almighty O waits for no sovereign, so he launched straight into his shpiel. To which I say, good for him. What else was the American revolution about, if not the right of the president to half-ass some formulaic niceties about the British monarch? He should have punctuated it with a weary “whatever” and downed the glass in one gulp.

This is why he doesn’t get invited to weddings, guys.

Not his fault.

He just thought they were playing “America the Beautiful” and didn’t think that song deserved any respect.

Stuff like this always sounds good and probably feels good to (you) to write, yet its no excuse, and it to me at least reads as empty rhetoric better suited for the American Revolution than when showing respect toward a very special ally.

Its been apparent that Obama has a smoldering dislike for the British from day one, this is but more proof of that. No need for you to rationalize it Allah.

More off-topic good news? NY-26

Jane Corwin’s spokesman told POLITICO that turnout numbers are looking good in the specific locations the Republican needs votes to win.

“We’re feeling good that our ground game is going to get us over the top,” Matthew Harakal told said just after 6 p.m. Polls close at 9 p.m.

He said that internal reports suggest Corwin is performing very strong in rural areas. He specifically mentioned Livingston County, south of Rochester and east of Buffalo.

Monroe County, which includes the Rochester suburbs and the town of Greece, “is a pretty good barometer for us,” Harakal said. “It seems like we’re having pretty good turnout.”

Freedom. Not rudeness.

John Adams was the first ambassador to Great Britain, and he greeted King George III in accordance with protocol. He didn’t like it but he did it…because it’s what you do when you represent your country.

It’s not about the War of Independence, it’s about treating our ALLIES with respect! In which case, yes, our POTUS should follow protocol and wait til “God Save the Queen” is finished.

Furthermore, don’t pretend, AllahP, that O hates royalty. He thinks he’s KING. He loves royalty, he just HATES the British. He probably knew the protocol and barfed it up on purpose. Although that enormous scar all around his head does suggest that he had a traumatic brain injury at one point.
