Carter: I’m the superior former President

Guess which former President is Jimmy Carter’s favorite? Three guesses:
Former President Jimmy Carter isn’t letting modesty stand in the way of his assessment of his post-presidential life.
“I feel that my role as a former president is probably superior to that of other presidents,” Mr. Carter said in an interview with NBC News.
Apparently, even Carter realized a little later how bad that sounded. He contacted NBC to amend his remarks to say that his role with a non-profit organization gave him “superior opportunities to do good.” In other words, he’s extremely fortunate that someone created the Carter Center after he left office. And who was the masked man who did that? Er ….
Carter actually started off his post-presidential era well, working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for the poor. Unfortunately, he rapidly became one of the most destructive former presidents this country has ever had by interfering with American foreign policy long after the voters of this country explicitly told him they didn’t want him conducting it any more. His interference stopped Bill Clinton from dealing more decisively with North Korea, which gave Kim Jong-Il the time he needed to construct nuclear weapons. He has muddied up the Israeli-Palestinian peace process by cheering Hamas, a group that has earned its place on the US list of terrorist organizations. He’s given Republican and Democratic Presidents alike reason enough to pray that someone builds Carter a Habitat for Humanity home that locks from the outside.
I’m tempted to play Mac Davis’ It’s Hard To Be Humble, but that’s too obvious. Instead, let’s turn this over to Chesney Hawkes, another one-hit wonder (at least in the US) with a penchant for self-promoting paeans:
Update: I got this by e-mail this morning and didn’t realize it was eight months old. Actually, I’m not sure how I missed it in September. Anyway, I doubt Carter has changed his mind in the last eight months, but my apologies for not making the date clear in the beginning.

Thank God our new Secretary of Defense is one of the most competent ever. Even though he said he has a lot to learn. And he doesn’t make policy. Which is a good thing, since doesn’t know what our policy is anyway.

While North Korea is a hideous hive of scum and villainy, sanctions don’t help anything. They only push us closer to war. As was proven by North Korea now declaring a state of war between them and the South. Why? Because of sanctions. And testing nukes within your own country for defense is not really a threat to anyone. I abhor North Korea’s government, but what’s new? I abhor most government.

Clinton tried the opposite policy, he gave Kim boatloads of food, fuel and money on the condition that North Korea not build nukes. Conservatives knew all along that was a stupid and failing policy and time has proven us correct. Clinton’s aid was no doubt used to help finance North Korea’s nukes which now have us in a tighter spot sooner than we would have been had we ignored the little Kim dictator.
If neither the carrot or the stick work, what is left to us?

One of North Korea’s top decision-making bodies is setting guidelines that call nuclear weapons “the nation’s life” that won’t be traded even for “billions of dollars,” The Associated Press reported.
The statement Sunday came after a plenary meeting of the central committee of the ruling Workers’ Party attended by leader Kim Jong Un and other officials, the AP said.
It also followed a declaration on Saturday that it was entering a “state of war” with South Korea, the latest in a string of increasingly belligerent outbursts from the isolated state.

Sunday’s statement says nuclear weapons aren’t “goods for getting U.S. dollars” or a “political bargaining chip.” Outside analysts have said Pyongyang raises worries over its nuclear ambitions to spur nuclear-disarmament-for-aid talks, the AP said.

ORTH Korea has vowed to strengthen its nuclear weapons, a day after announcing it is in a “state of war” with South Korea, and says it will never trade its atomic deterrent for aid.
Tensions have risen sharply on the peninsula since the United Nations tightened sanctions in response to the North’s nuclear and missile tests, and the United States and South Korea launched military drills south of the border.
On Saturday the North declared it was in a “state of war” with the South and warned Seoul and Washington that any provocation would swiftly escalate into an all-out nuclear conflict.
A meeting on Sunday of the central committee of the ruling Workers’ Party, guided by leader Kim Jong-Un, decided the country’s possession of nuclear weapons “should be fixed by law”, the official KCNA news agency reported without elaborating.
The nuclear armed forces “should be expanded and beefed up qualitatively and quantitatively until the denuclearisation of the world is realised”, it added.
Members also decided to develop a light water reactor as part of a civilian nuclear power industry to ease electricity shortages, KCNA said.
The North in 2010 disclosed the existence of a uranium enrichment facility and light water reactor, purportedly to generate power. Experts said it could easily be reconfigured to make fuel for nuclear weapons.
The North in April 2009 formally abandoned six-party talks offering it economic and security benefits in return for denuclearisation.
On Sunday it reiterated its atomic weapons are not a bargaining chip.
“They are a treasure of a reunified country which can never be traded with billions of dollars,” KCNA quoted the central committee members as saying.

The good news is Kim CAN “back off” whenever he wants, with or without some minor attack as a meaningless gesture first. As a totalitarian regime, no one challenges his state propaganda, the labor camps are death camps.
No major troop movements or mobilizations have taken place and the Kaesong industrial area runs on without incident. If Kim’s threats were serious, one would expect full mobilization and the closure of Kaesong, as has been the case in previously engineered “crises.”

N Korea makes noise if China lets it make noise.
China is moving fast to isolate US influence. First, the currency deal with Brazil. Now, dropping the USD (dollar) for dealings with Australia. The standoffs over Japanese territory is also to cost us either money or influence
N. Korea diverts US resources. If it blows up something, probably even better. Whatever it blows up either costs the US money, or interferes with US business.
I hate to say it, but IMHO the rats in DC also use the Korean situation to blow smoke on their own dirty deals. How’s that amnesty moving along in the Senate?
China would probably love the US to do amnesty. That would be almost as good as a currency downgrade. Amnesty too would weaken the American hegemony, as they integrate 20 million who intend to retain the culture of the drug cartel to the south

Can China really afford to hurt the US –the source of its business and debt payments? The Chinese people have learned to accept a better lifestyle (thanks to us) and the risk to revolution might never be worth the chance, not to mention, China is cunning but not insane–loosing the madman with nukes could easily get out of control and risk stability, if not war with China…Russia etc. we
This isn’t Iran driven by irrational thirst for doomsday.
My thoughts go back to the early 1950′s and wonder had Truman let MacArthur pursue the war, and we not copped out of Vietnam after winning the Tet Offensive…

Since our Lib/Prog “friends” now have their targeted assassination freak on, I think it is time to bring back some good guys to help the Israelis with their regime modification schemes. Time for more Black-Ops (pardon the irony) special units. I don’t dream of drones, but of the Kim’s and their ilk being squashed like the insects they are.
