Wisconsin Supreme Court Recount – Day 21 (all but done)

posted at 3:35 pm on May 19, 2011 by Steve Eggleston

As I type, Waukesha County is working on the process of certifying its results after finishing the physical recount about 2 pm yesterday. With unofficial numbers from all of Waukesha County except the city of Muskego, most of the city of Waukesha, and most of the village of Summit (the last was reported to the Government Accountability Board but was still under review as of this morning) available from the GAB as of this morning, and certified numbers from the other 71 counties, 3,545 of Wisconsin’s 3,602 reporting units have been reported and at minimum reviewed by the Government Accountability Board, representing 1,477,284 of an original 1,498,880 votes. On a net basis, Justice David Prosser gained 368 votes over his pre-recount total in those 3,545 reporting units, challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg gained a net 678 votes over the pre-recount total, and an additional 162 “scattering” were recorded over the pre-recount total. That means Prosser lost 310 votes of his pre-recount 7,316-vote lead, and has an unofficial 7,006-vote lead.

Waukesha County is expected to finish the process of certification either today or tomorrow. Indeed, just before the board of canvassers broke for lunch, they completed the final canvass of Muskego. Once the certified results are transmitted to the GAB (note; if they’re transmitted electronically, they’ll be on the GAB county-by-county certified results/recount minutes page in short order), the 5-business-day window of opportunity to file a judicial appeal of the recount begins. If Kloppenburg, as the sole losing candidate, does not, do so, it will be Humpbot Time as Prosser is declared the official winner.

Since my last update on Monday, Kloppenburg penned an op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel where she denied having made up her mind on whether to challenge the inevitable recount defeat in court, then proceeded to spend the remainder of the op-ed outlining why many, including both myself and the majority of the Journal Sentinel editorial board, believe she has already made up her mind to do so.

The Associated Press, in their Wednesday wrap (copy courtesy the Appleton Post-Crescent), decided to focus on the raw recounted numbers, without any perspective on either what the pre-recount numbers were in the same reporting units or what the change of margin has been, to repeat its Election Night “mistake” of giving Kloppenburg and her entourage false hope. For those who were tracking their numbers in the days following the election, they waited for several days after the failure to report the results of the city of Brookfield became common knowledge to correct their erroneous numbers.

I wonder what this is costing the taxpayers of the State? Phase one draws near completion, so I’m guessing that the lawyers fly in for phase two because this ego maniac “feels” like she should have won.

Have the called the seniors yet to tell them that they made a mistake in their votes?

Hening on May 19, 2011 at 3:55 PM

It’s funny how life works out sometimes. This whack-a-doodle of a candidate calls for this silly recount, holds a couple of frighteningly bizarre press conferences, writes a dishonest op-ed piece, and the voters of Wisconsin get to see the bullet they dodged. This is a 10-year Supreme Court post, right? I mean, Good Lord, this Kloppenburg woman almost got elected to that position! Wisconsinites should consider themselves damn lucky they were spared a decade of her incoherent babbling from their state’s highest court. Look how close she came — and look what we’ve learned about her in the days since the election. Good save by the voters of Wisconsin!

Bingo. There’s the final destination. Kloppenburg will “win” when a liberal judge in Dane County says she can.

Votes be d*mned.

This, of course, in the same state where the left had a collective pants-wetting when the Republicans passed voter ID because it’ll “disenfranchise” people.

englishqueen01 on May 19, 2011 at 4:10 PM

So, with some 22,000 votes left to re-count, in a county that voted 73% for Prosser, Kloppy expects to make up 7,000 votes? After the rest of the state netted her a grand total of 310 votes? Dream on…

On what grounds can she challenge the re-counted, re-canvassed, and re-certified votes in court when she’s 7,000 votes down? Even if it goes to the State Supreme Court, unlike Prosser, she can’t sit on the Court until she’s elected to it…

So, with some 22,000 votes left to re-count, in a county that voted 73% for Prosser, Kloppy expects to make up 7,000 votes?

No. She doesn’t expect to make up 7,000 votes.

She expects to cast enough doubt on the ballots in Waukesha — her crew has been challenging every bag with a tear, a funky seal, etc. — to take it to court and have a judge throw out the Waukesha ballots.

Never mind that the bags with holes, etc. in Dane County were recounted unchallenged by the Kloppenburg campaign.

This isn’t about making up the votes, it’s about creating legal grounds to screw Waukesha Co and the people of Wisconsin.

I’ve been making this same argument for years. Unfortunately, people like Rush have allowed them to, and continue to claim that there’s something inherently wrong with “liberalism”. I would argue that modern Conservatism echoes many of the strongest values represented by Classical Liberalism. That’s not a bug; that’s a feature.

This was NEVER EVER about trying to make up 7,000+ votes. What has transpired to this point is all about setting the stage for the real show. Welcome to the REAL show. No Humpbot (excuse my ignorance, what exactly is a “Humpbot?”); this race is about to be stolen.
The Klappenfart camp and her lawyer’s strategy is that even though the results that were given to, and stated by the AP where “UNOFFICAL,” the 7,000+ votes from Brookfield MUST be thrown out. And while they are at it, throw out some nun’s votes, and overseas service men/women’s votes too!
“Welcome to the party pal!” ~ John McClane

P.S: With all her consultants WHY, please GOD in Heaven above, why does she not have someone, ANYONE!, work on her …er…”image”? Someone…ANYONE! needs to tell Klappenfart that a knotted red scarf doesn’t come close to cutting through the jump-back, kick-the-dog UGLY to the bone that she is.
“Beauty may be only skin deep, but ugly goes to the bone!” ~Red Foxx
This beauty from the movie Tootsie…Screen test
Rita: I’d like to make her look a little more attractive, how far can you pull back?
Cameraman: How do you feel about Cleveland?
I just had to get it out of my system…thank you. I am done now …for now at least.

JimmyGee on May 19, 2011 at 6:13 PM

Not done just yet…another one
“I’m so ugly my parents had to tie a pork chop around my neck to get the dog to play with me.”

Okay, NOW I am done!

I majored in Politics in college. One very bright professor made a statement thet has lived with me. It was that democracy works only of the “outs” accept they are out.

If Kloppenberg tries to force a new election and drags this oout, she is doing a major disservice to the state of Wisconsin.

In my previous comment, I neglected to thank you for your excellent day by day wrapups of the recount. It gives me greater faith in the honesty of Wisconsin’s recount procedures. After following the Franken follies with “long lost” boxes of ballots conveniently showing up, I was fearful the same would happen here.

How the MSM will cover 2 stories:

WI recount:

This election in no way means WI voters support Scott Walker or the Republican party. This was an off year local election with absolutely no importance to national affairs.

NY-26 special election if Dem wins in a 3 way race where the 3rd party candidate is a Democrat running as a “Tea Party” candidate

This is election is the most important election held since 1776. It is a direct rejection of the Tea Party and the radical – and some say racist – ideas it endorses. It is a full and complete vindication of President Obama’s policies and shows Obama is a lock for re-election.

angryed on May 20, 2011 at 9:07 AM
