Obama on immigration: These wingnuts want a border moat

posted at 4:59 pm on May 10, 2011 by Allahpundit

Here’s the complete transcript in case you’re moved to read it, although I don’t know why you would be. You’ve heard this speech a hundred times before, and not just from Obama. Enforcement is better than it’s ever been, we have too many people “living in the shadows,” etc etc, so it’s time we got serious about amnesty. Even so, this is good politics for him insofar as there’s a lot of upside and little downside. No one expects it to go anywhere in Congress, and even if it did he’d have bipartisan cover, so the risk of alienating voters who think the solution to high unemployment might not be a sudden glut of legal labor is small. (In fact, so horrible has the economy been that America’s illegal population actually dropped by the largest amount in 30 years in 2009 and is presumably dropping still. Enforcement, Hopenchange-style.) Meanwhile, he gets to reassure Latinos that he’s serious enough about this issue to put his face to it in a major speech, even if he’s not quite serious enough to do anything about it via an executive order. So it’s a consummately political speech, and as with all O speeches, it ends ironically with a plea to … put politics aside:

So, the question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we’ve started. We have to put the politics aside. And if we do, I’m confident we can find common ground. Washington is behind the country on this. Already, there is a growing coalition of leaders across America who don’t always see eye-to-eye, but who are coming together on this issue. They see the harmful consequences of this broken system for their businesses and communities. They understand why we need to act.

He also assured the audience that the border fence is now “basically complete,” which is news to Jim DeMint and news to anyone else who remembers the “virtual fence” being touted as a deus ex machina in policing the border. The feds finally abandoned that idea just four months ago because — surprise — it wasn’t working. But maybe that’s a good thing. If we slide back into a recession, we might start seeing Americans try to sneak over into Mexico. As long as Cancun has high-speed Internet, I’m set. Click the image to watch.

What a lying, POS POTUS! The fence is not complete! Gov Brewer signed a bill authorizing AZ to build a border fence – because Obama won’t – using donations from the public and prisoners for the labor. So far there’s already more than $1.5 mil donated.

El Paso is my home town. I was born at Ft Bliss. My parents still live there. It is a city of 650,000 and over 80% hispanic. For many years, it has been listed as one of the safest major cities in the country. However, the only thing seperating this city and the murder capitol of the world is a moat called the Rio Grande. The city hall in El Paso and buildings on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) have been hit by bullets fired from the Mexico side of the river. It is a major corridor for drug and human trafficing. The government of Mexico is corrupt and damn near powerless. Victims of the Juarez violence often end up in hospitals in El Paso. Extra security is now needed because the bad guys are known to shoot up hostitals and patients in order to finish the job. Also, the hospital costs are picked up by US taxpayers. If the illegal aliens want amnsesty, let them go back to their native country (whatever it may be) unmolested and allow them to reenter only after completeing the leagal process. If they are guilty of identity theft by using a fake SSN or drivers license or something of that nature, sorry but no entry. You are an undesirable criminal. Have a job, do not accept public assistance and learn English. Become assimulated into our culture rather than try to change ours into the one you ran away from.

We are traveling so I’m sort of stuck on Fox News on Satellite radio. Thankfully we got a few calls and had to miss everything but the first 10 minutes. And after 10 minutes I was SCREAMINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

This is NOT an immigration problem. I have no problem with comprehensive immigration policy reform. Reform the policy all you want! Get the Congress together and decide how many new immigrants this broke country can accept. Follow current immigration policy and make sure they are employable and not coming to suck off the government teat – especially now that we offer FREE health care.

What I do have a problem with is ILLEGALS entering MY country and being granted AMNESTY to stay here. And THAT is what Barack Hussein Obama darned to call our “immigration problem” and “comprehensive immigration reform”.

This is about lying to Hispanics — again — by promising that their vote will result in amnesty this time. Really.
amerpundit on May 10, 2011 at 5:03 P

The good news is that most legal Hispanics – thereby authorized to vote – do not support amnesty. They got here the right way and they want others to have to do the same. The only pandering is to the illegal Hispanic vote, which I’m sure happens, and the liberals who need them for lawn care and household staff. What they need to realize is that a legal Hispanic who pays taxes won’t work for $7.00 per hour.

You can have all the increase in border patrol you want, but if they are only there in an advisory capacity, or have been instructed not to detain or enforce immigration law then they dont do a whole lot of good now do they.

If lies would hurt this guy he’d screem 24 hours incontrollably. I wish that he would.

He pretty much claimed that for every illegal alien the country would benefit by one million dollars. There’s a way to solve the deficit/debt. Get yourselves some illegals, while this math works.

They bring trash whereever they go and turn decent neighborhoods into barrios. I know because I had to sell my house. They stand on the corner of Home Depot all day long. I have several Hispanic friends who are, finally, voicing their disgust with Teh One. Their families worked for years to gain legal status and are incredibly angry that OBlahblah is pandering – again.

There is a group here in Texas, Amigos de Patriots, that have a survey written in English on one page and Spanish on the second page.

I live in a small town with a large Hispanic population, most work and send their money home to Mexico. We’ve placed these at laundromats, hung them on grocery store bulletin boards, etc. Take a look. Do it. Print this out front and back and carry some with you. Give them to your house cleaners and your yard people, the waiter bringing you more chips or bread or drinks or food. They don’t have to turn this in to anyone, it’s simply for their use. This population is hard working and want the best for their families just like everyone else. Do everyone a favor and share this information.

Washington is behind the country on this.

The country wants LAW ENFORCEMENT — overwhelmingly. Not amnesty.

This poll is the only one I have ever seen that offers all three choices — (1) amnesty, (2) mass deportations, and (3) attrition though enforcement.

Note that Obama and all amnesty promoters always present the false dichotomy of: “We can’t deport 12 million people, THEREFORE we must make them citizens.”

Bambi on May 10, 2011 at 9:50 PM

All Libtard arguments aside, face it…many businesses want them here as cheap labor and a lot of politicians on both sides want the “Hispanic vote”. So, of course, nothing real ever gets done in this matter.

Dr. ZhivBlago on May 10, 2011 at 9:54 PM

EL PASO, Texas – In search of Hispanic votes and a long-shot immigration overhaul, President Barack Obama on Tuesday stood at the U.S.-Mexico border for the first time since winning the White House and declared it more secure than ever. He mocked Republican lawmakers for blocking immigration over border security alone, saying they won’t be happy until they get a moat with alligators along the border.

“They’ll never be satisfied,” he said.

The “Gutsy” wonder then went on to ask for “unity”. The president is an impertinent pri*k.

fred5678 on May 10, 2011 at 9:42 PM

I know that is not really what you are talking about (in my post above), so didn’t mean to interject with my opinion.
I really think that people who come in illegally can never be citizens unless they do it the right way. We have so many educated people from other countries who would work hard and appreciate our freedoms, but are never given a chance. The Hispanics (not all) bring their corrupt politics with them and then wonder why Ca, for instance, is becoming just like Mexico. When we have Dr’s from Korea or other Asian countries come to the U.S. on a visa for a year, boy do we make sure they are on the plane heading east when their visa is over. Educated people we don’t need!
Another thought – haven’t we always been told that the U.S. was having too many children and we should limit our families and yes, Americans have. Large families have been made fun of, threatened with limited tax deductions etc., by the left. Now, we are constantly told that we need more people to keep America going, thus we need to open our borders. Sure!

Distinguished Scholars award, which provides $3,000 a year for high-achieving students who attend Maryland universities, had been canceled, a casualty of this year’s state budget cuts.

The awards were cut as part of Gov. Martin O’Malley’s trims — totaling about $1.35 billion — to the state’s 2012 budget.

“When we’re dealing with the kind of recession we’ve been dealing with, every program can’t be protected,” said Rick Abbruzzese, a spokesman for O’Malley.

Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed a mountain lion, the leader of a pack of lions, and a lion who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

He’s only saying what President Soros tells him to. President Soros is Open Society. No borders. No National Sovereignty for anyone. We must all obey President Soros because he knows what each individual needs. He has said he himself is God. I thought he was only President…

That outtake published at the top reads like a cut-and-paste job from any number of “speeches” by any politician. “Coalitions of leaders, finding common ground, finishing the work we’ve started.” A bunch of tripe.
Meanwhile, I can envision the “virtual” fence with a bunch of Mexican mimes trying to “scale” it.

I used to think that there wasn’t a bigger scumbag than Bill Clinton. I was totally wrong. At least Clinton told the truth at least once a month.

Chavez wannabe. Scumbag-Liar-in-Chief.

We have to put the politics aside.

It is not in this guy’s DNA to put politics aside…

Why are we the only country that is not allowed to protect our own sovereignty? Name another country that is not allowed to protect their borders. We’re the only one.

Israel seems to encounter similar issues. And they have difficulty building in their own capital city–Jerusalem. Imagine the rest of the world telling us we can’t build apartments in New York City.

Meanwhile, sheriffs testify that they are not to turn in illegals so that the government need not report the same.

Well exactly. This administration has held law enforcement hostage to political pandering. That’s the long and short of it.

polls have consistently found that most Americans believe immigrants who are in the United States illegally should be provided a pathway to legal status if they take steps such as paying a fine or learning English. http://nationaljournal.com/politics/the-immigration-paradox-20110511

seriously???

Prez Obie is just trying to fire up his disgruntled Latino supporters. Unfortunately for him, this speech will also fire up the “wingnuts” he so loves to denigrate, of which I am one. Having one segment of the country laughing at another segment of the country does not a unified country make.

Thank you, ma’am!

The following two statements are a perfect way to gauge your opponent as a mental midget (also called a mindless liberal):

1. “We need comprehensive immigration reform”
2. “Our immigration system is broken”

Michelle would prefer a moat filled with fresh lobsters and shrimp surrounding the White House. She would not have to go so far for a snack.

Oh well, next term…

This man has simply perfected arrogance, or to put it in modern-day liberal terminology – he’s “humility challenged.”
