Obama on immigration: These wingnuts want a border moat
posted at 4:59 pm on May 10, 2011 by Allahpundit
Here’s the complete transcript in case you’re moved to read it, although I don’t know why you would be. You’ve heard this speech a hundred times before, and not just from Obama. Enforcement is better than it’s ever been, we have too many people “living in the shadows,” etc etc, so it’s time we got serious about amnesty. Even so, this is good politics for him insofar as there’s a lot of upside and little downside. No one expects it to go anywhere in Congress, and even if it did he’d have bipartisan cover, so the risk of alienating voters who think the solution to high unemployment might not be a sudden glut of legal labor is small. (In fact, so horrible has the economy been that America’s illegal population actually dropped by the largest amount in 30 years in 2009 and is presumably dropping still. Enforcement, Hopenchange-style.) Meanwhile, he gets to reassure Latinos that he’s serious enough about this issue to put his face to it in a major speech, even if he’s not quite serious enough to do anything about it via an executive order. So it’s a consummately political speech, and as with all O speeches, it ends ironically with a plea to … put politics aside:
So, the question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we’ve started. We have to put the politics aside. And if we do, I’m confident we can find common ground. Washington is behind the country on this. Already, there is a growing coalition of leaders across America who don’t always see eye-to-eye, but who are coming together on this issue. They see the harmful consequences of this broken system for their businesses and communities. They understand why we need to act.
He also assured the audience that the border fence is now “basically complete,” which is news to Jim DeMint and news to anyone else who remembers the “virtual fence” being touted as a deus ex machina in policing the border. The feds finally abandoned that idea just four months ago because — surprise — it wasn’t working. But maybe that’s a good thing. If we slide back into a recession, we might start seeing Americans try to sneak over into Mexico. As long as Cancun has high-speed Internet, I’m set. Click the image to watch.

That is such a dumb argument. I just ask, “How did they get Here?” Take away their ability to work and start deporting whoever we can. The rest will begin to realize the free ride is over and return.

OBAMA = SCUMBAG.
I have had it up to HERE with this guy’s incessant partisan, campaign speeches! His desk at the Oval Office must be collecting dust from lack of use. We have got to kick that Marxist out of there in 2012.
OneVision on May 11, 2011 at 8:40 AM
This guy is not the president of the people . . . he’s the president of the liberal left and nothing more.

It is as I said back on Jan 1 2009: “America est in absentia Praesieo”.
We have a leftist occupier in the White House. America is without a President.
wearyman on May 11, 2011 at 9:18 AM
This bastard has been campaigning for the past 5 years and has been President for none. He is a liberal, far left nutcase who is seeking the destruction of a nation that he hates. When it becomes obvious to those who put him in office it will be too late. He is the man who will go down in history as the ONE who brought down a once great nation.

It really irritated me to hear that they shot that cat. I mean, it’s unreasonable to leave a mountain lion wandering around downtown, so it had to be addressed. But maybe if Obummer would spend a little more time at the office, people wouldn’t be freaking out and messing up trying to get things ready for him.

San Francisco is not going to turn over minors believed to be here illegal even if they have committed a felony. Oh swell.

This is always worth bringing up. Every time Barry rants on and takes another jab at Republicans, just remember this:

Hey a moat (with gators, crocs or whatever) would be more effective than what we have now…

Sorry I posted the wrong link yesterday to the story about AZ building its own border fence. I had too many tabs open. Here’s the correct link:
http://www.kgun9.com/story/14603412/arizona-to-solicit-online-donations-for-border-fence
Alana, the fence will be partly on state land and private land. They’re in the process now of receiving permission from private landowners. You’re right, Obama will try and stop it, but I hope AZ prevails.
GrannySunni on May 11, 2011 at 10:44 AM
Why didn’t they use tranquilizer darts on the mountain lion? Or was it killed to tidy things up before Obama’s visit?
GrannySunni on May 11, 2011 at 10:52 AM
this is what affirmative action got us: a president who could not have gotten to this point in his life, without the TOTAL abdication of the american people’s values.
to now advocate for other, illegal individuals, to demand from us, American citizens, that we the people should allow these illegals to step in front of another more qualified individual. Individual, qualified, American citizen. to jump the imigration line, to get government/taxpayer money to attend school, get medical care, any assistance from US, the LEGAL CITIZENS.
mydogwonthunt on May 11, 2011 at 10:53 AM
This man/child of a president is something, isn’t he?
Listen BO we will NEVER ever except your immigration law unless we can see “the wall” US/Mexican/Canandian border from outerspace. Just like the Chi-Com’s “great wall”.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND???
mmcnamer1 on May 11, 2011 at 10:59 AM
This guy is pathetic! Trading American lives for votes. Just how low will he go?
shov74 on May 11, 2011 at 11:02 AM
I don’t know what laws they think would apply, but it’s a given that the Obama administration will try and block it somehow. The fence will be placed on state and private land. AZ currently is seeking permission from private landowners.
My apologies for posting the wrong link yesterday. I tried to post another link to the correct story a few minutes ago but it didn’t go through. The link was to the Tucson ABC affiliate, however, as a leftover from the old west, the station has a weapon as part of it’s name. Perhaps that’s why the filter caught it…

So is the White House without a real President!
shov74 on May 11, 2011 at 11:05 AM
This guy is such a joke. He wont even say what he wants to do, which is amnesty. He wont get re-elected if he says that word because even legal immigrants dont want someone given a free ride that they had to do legally.
tx2654 on May 11, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Hey, let’s use the Endangered Species Act to release some baby alligators into the Rio Grande! Oops, they got away and grew up…something like that.
Maybe if the mountain lion had shown up at Obama’s speech, it would be a good argument for Second Amendment rights–people needed guns to protect Obama!
Steve Z on May 11, 2011 at 11:35 AM
The two things we’ve come to expect from a teleprompter-read speech from Hussein Hopenchange are:
1, he speaks a lot of words but says nothing or
2, he’s lying.
Today’s pandering teleprompter-thon was no different. Obama desperately needs the Hispanic vote now that they hate him too so off he goes to El Paso to pander some immigration reform to los illegales in a handpicked crowd. At least something finally got him to the US/Mexican border! It surely wasn’t the cries from border state governors, sheriffs and citizens whose lives are in danger every single minute from the massive brown tsunami trampling their states.
There was one thing..and only one thing..that would get Hussein off the golf course. Pandering. Pitiful, deceitful pandering.
Obama is nothing if not predictable. Put him in front of a teleprompter and the left-right-left-center (rinse and repeat) head motion starts. Then come the river of lies. And pointing the blame on the evil (and basically worthless) Republicans.
PatriotRider on May 11, 2011 at 11:44 AM
I didn’t like the idea of the president calling Americans wingnuts.
I was appalled at the implications. So upon your advise I went to the transcript that you provided. I found the word moat. The term wingnuts is not there. nowhere
You, ALLAHPUNDIT, seem to be, a liar.
I really do not want to say that, You are a liar.
The president of the United States of America did not call Americans wingnuts, at least in this instance. Could you provide such an instance?
I don’t want to say, You lied. ALLAHPUNDIT, I wish you could clarify, to correct the appearance that you are a liar.
I have respect for our nation, the party system, and discourse of conflict. It is necessary.
Could you please explain the journalistic strategy you are pursuing with your creative system of quotations?
Thank you

You must be a blast at parties.
No, thank you for reminding me that the world is full of clueless people with no sense of humor that can’t figure out the difference between news and commentary.

Nope. Piranhas and gators are fresh water critters. Crocs are salt water. If you want Piranhas, it has to be gators. Luckily, Texas already has lots of gators. We just need a relocation program followed by an accelerated breeding program. I hear Brazil has lots of Piranhas. Perhaps they could send us some in return for our investments in their oil infrastructure?
stvnscott on May 11, 2011 at 1:31 PM
That’s why he went to El Paso. He’s not interested in fixing illegal immigration or border security. There are very few Republicans here (in El Paso), unlike the rest of the state, and he doesn’t have the guts to go anywhere else in Texas, (except the other liberal hangout, Austin), because he would probably get booed off the stage. This was a campaign speech.
On that note; the event in El Paso was held at the Chamizal Nat’l Monument where LBJ signed the Chamizal Treaty with the Mexican Government in 1964. ALL those in attendance were there by INVITATION ONLY, 1200 of them. Of those 1200 invites, 500 were given to the University of Texas at El Paso faculty and students. The rest were sent to City and Community leaders. Regular Joes were not invited. Again, the most liberal people he could find, in the most liberal city in Texas.
Susanboo on May 11, 2011 at 1:35 PM
LOL!
OMG you two! So effing funny!
Liberals do nothing but perpetuate victimation & basically all forms of slavery.
Bcs illegals are often treated like slaves.
I loved Bush for many things.
But immigration-I can never forgive him on.
He is a bleeding heart Conservative Progressive.
I think this is why a lot of Catholics & other religious groups vote Dem.
They feel they are being compassionate to the downtrodden, hence the priests & preachers of various faiths around the country giving sanctuary to illegals.
When will they realize that in reality, they aren’t doing these people a favor?
The countries they are fleeing only get worse & worse.
America can only absorb so much.
The rest of the world needs to get their $hit together & make their own safe place to live.

If you all out there don’t wake up and get this FOOL out of office, I’ve no idea what is going to happen to this Country, he’s certainly, one buffoon. He does not care about the USA, he cares about appeasing the Muslim’s, period. Ladies order your Burka’s (sp) now and try to find a good deal. Everyone looks lovely, in black.
He disgusts me.

Moat? Hmmm no I was thinking along the lines of minefields, machine gun towers and pre-registered artillery. But I suppose a moat would be a good addition to a countermaneuver plan. Let’s implement it.

Speaking of Texas, anyone seen this? Pretty sad, it just goes to show that it’s not only the National Democrats that are slimeballs but many of our city government Dems as well. I lived in the Dallas area for several years in the eighties, and that’s not the Dallas I knew and loved.

I said that, too, to my husband, probably around March of the same year.
It was said of a feeling – a feeling, a sense, a knowledge that there was no one at the helm. No one on America’s side, anyway; such that only harm could come.
My husband disagreed with me. (Not that he likes Obama.)
But I knew it. I felt it.

Never before has a president used “they” so often when refering to half of the American public.
Most un-presidential president ever.
Scrappy on May 11, 2011 at 5:45 PM
“They” as in Americans who do really not like the idea of watching their wages plummet to to the level of workers in third-world countries.
I mean, if they can eke by on rice and rat meat you can as well. Just suck it up and stop being such bitter clingers.

If it takes a MOAT filled with alligators so be it! its OUR BORDER not a turnstyle for illegals!
what a dumb *ss obummer is!.
ColdWarrior57 on May 12, 2011 at 7:36 PM
A moat was an ancient method of keeping out those who were not supposed to come in. But nobody in those days was stupid enough to believe the moat worked alone. The moat was one stage of a system of barriers, including at least one wall and and at least one clear no-man’s land between. Where the terrain or space did not provide for such an empty zone, multiple walls with drawbridges, portcullises, or substantial gate displacements sufficed.
Note to POTUS: Any of the above, thanks. Make a gutsy call, and CLOSE THE BORDER.
