Surreal video: Kids react to Bin Laden getting shot in the face

posted at 8:28 pm on May 9, 2011 by Allahpundit

Precocious, telegenic, and surprisingly well informed: It’s like a cable news chat segment for … I was going to say “for the Romper Room set” but even adults will find this more entertaining than the talking-points swill they digest daily. Keep your eye on the kid with the green stripe on his shirt. He’s going to be writing for Newsweek someday.

The news tonight from Pakistan is that ISI will, in fact, make Bin Laden’s wives available for questioning by U.S. counterterrorism officials. Imagine the look on the wives’ faces when they’re inevitably asked by an American agent about ISI cooperation with Bin Laden, whereupon the Pakistani security official in the room starts making the throat-slitting gesture with his hand…

Sorry, I’m not watching the video. I just don’t care what the kids think.

joejm65 on May 9, 2011 at 8:33 PM

Look at all of those kids.

None of whom will grow up with a breathing Osama Bin Laden.

amerpundit on May 9, 2011 at 8:34 PM

Micheal Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Noam Chomsky, Cindy Sheehan, et al should take notes from these kids.

mizflame98 on May 9, 2011 at 8:36 PM

The children have no context. They do not recall 9/11, nor the people jumping from those towers. They did not get locked down on a military base like my family and I did (and did not leave for a month). They have not gone and fought overseas, seen the pain of those that were injured in this. Their opinions matter, but its like getting Allahpundit’s input on what picking up chicks is like….there’s just no context…/

I like the Whack-a-Mole analogy.

sammypants on May 9, 2011 at 8:38 PM

They make more sense than most Democrats.

sharrukin on May 9, 2011 at 8:40 PM

It’s interesting how the twin girls have pretty much opposite reactions. The one of the left thinks it’s kind of sad about Osama while the other one was practically cabbage patching.

CookeyD on May 9, 2011 at 8:43 PM

The twins were hysterical. “Oh, that’s sad…” “We tried using words, it didn’t work!!”

Firefly_76 on May 9, 2011 at 8:44 PM

These children weren’t asked how they felt about Osama bin Laden ‘BEING SHOT IN THE FACE’ but about how they felt that he’s now dead, been killed by U.S. military.

From their responses, they all sound like they’re doing just fine with the news and can express themselves well about why they do.

Lourdes on May 9, 2011 at 8:45 PM

Firefly_76 on May 9, 2011 at 8:44 PM

Yes, that “we tried using words, it didn’t work” statement was the winner. Very mature response.

Now they will be “educated” by liberals and wash that away.

Lourdes on May 9, 2011 at 8:47 PM

Trying to figure how which kids will grow up to be Rs and which will be Ds.

txag92 on May 9, 2011 at 8:48 PM

Interesting. The Whack-a-Mole analogy is quite apt, imo. And who doesn’t want a yellow canoe?

changer1701 on May 9, 2011 at 8:48 PM

Ok I made it to about 50 seconds and decided that was good enough for me.

Bishop on May 9, 2011 at 8:49 PM

You can spot the kids who have politically involved parents, and you can spot those who have politically involved teachers.

Freelancer on May 9, 2011 at 8:50 PM

I watched about 90 seconds worth. It was just really weird.

Lourdes on May 9, 2011 at 8:46 PM

Would be funny if they grew up to be a sister act of Carville and Matalin …

Firefly_76 on May 9, 2011 at 8:53 PM

I’m surprised at how little crazy was on exhibit. Maybe all these kids were home-schooled. (Though Darius might’ve been less positive had bin Laden been Persian–damn that Alexander!)

I am glad that I am not Lia’s father. Hopefully he’s a member of a SWAT team. The next four to five years of his life shall be long and restless, best endured with a talent for readily striking mortal fear into the hearts of testosterone-crazed teenage boys. (“May you have an attractive daughter!” is a curse I use only against my most hated enemies.)

Blacklake on May 9, 2011 at 8:53 PM

Keep your eye on the kid with the green stripe on his shirt. He’s going to be writing for Newsweek someday.

Only after he spends most of his college years in a Che shirt smoking weed behind the dorm building.

KSgop on May 9, 2011 at 8:53 PM

Now they will be “educated” by liberals and wash that away.

darwin-t on May 9, 2011 at 8:46 PM

Unfortunately that is true. The US does as well as most Asian countries when the kindergarten grades are compared and it progressively gets worse as they advance in grade.

sharrukin on May 9, 2011 at 8:53 PM

I loved the time when children were seen but not heard.

katy the mean old lady on May 9, 2011 at 8:55 PM

As with most kids 13 and under, asking their opinion about matters they aren’t mature enough to comprehend well, only results in getting a dim, blurry view into their parents’ opinion. That’s why there is little to no value in a piece like this.

Freelancer on May 9, 2011 at 8:55 PM

They should do touchdown dances.

JammieWearingFool on May 9, 2011 at 8:55 PM

Keep your eye on the kid with the green stripe on his shirt. He’s going to be writing for Newsweek someday.

He is way too intelligent and way too much a realist to ever work for Newsweek.

ButterflyDragon on May 9, 2011 at 8:56 PM

I watched this when it was in the headlines. I agree with AP about how informed this kids are. I wasn’t put off by any of it because at this age they are just mimicking the person who gave them the information. And they don’t vote.

Cindy Munford on May 9, 2011 at 8:58 PM

Move over Bambi…..enter OBL!!

It takes a village!(sarc).

canopfor on May 9, 2011 at 8:59 PM

Isn’t that the magazine that sold for a dollar and was overpriced? They may want to consider hiring him next week because I don’t see them holding out until he comes of age.

ladyingray on May 9, 2011 at 9:08 PM

We told our 8-year old (when she asked)that he was a bad man and that she doesn’t need to worry about it. There are good people in our military that keep watch over us.

I really wouldn’t sit my 8-year-old down purposely to watch this……IMO she shouldn’t have to think about it yet.

Tim_CA on May 9, 2011 at 9:08 PM

The little girl at :30 looked scared; no way I’m putting my little tots before anyone and listening to a list of Osama’s crimes. She was 6 and all she heard was “He was responsible for killing 3,000 men and women”. No thanks.

Bishop on May 9, 2011 at 9:13 PM

Keep your eye on the kid with the green stripe on his shirt. He’s going to be writing for Newsweek someday.

Watched the vid before I read this or any of the comments (sorry, AP) and that boy (only 10 IIRC) was clearly the best informed and giving basically adult replies to the questions. Agree w/ above posters who said that you can easily tell whose parents are politically aware.

inviolet on May 9, 2011 at 9:21 PM

I wonder if, after the video, the producers clarified some of the misconceptions. It is important to know that it was a few more than 42 people were killed. Why was OBL considered a bad guy? What else was he responsible for, etc. Rather than just get their opinions, educate them at the same time. Their opinions might change.

DAT60A3 on May 9, 2011 at 9:26 PM

That’s disrespectful of the child who said that. In their perceptions, that’s A GREAT LOSS, “42 people, killed” equals a very, very big offense. As it should.

Their point was that Osama bin Laden was responsible for a very, very big offense against a lot of people. 42, 3,000, it’s the grossness of the offense that has made the impact to that child.

There is nothing disrespectful at all in my comment. I was wondering if they used this as a teaching point or were they just looking to make a video. Was there any kind of follow up or did they turn off the camera and just go home? And, accuracy is always important.

10 year old William in 2012! Make it happen!

We need to wake up and not be afraid to tell our kids the real reason these Islamic terrorist are trying to kill us is because we won’t convert to their religion.

Did I just hear the girl in the glasss reiterate the Bush Doctrine? So simple a child gets it!!

TulsAmerican on May 10, 2011 at 1:45 AM

They are a lot smarter than about a third of the population.

I also was struck by the difference in attitude by those twins. The one girl, while sweet was somewhat a moderate. Her sister is a future republican. I loved, the “We tried words, it DIDN’T WORK!”

TiminPhx on May 10, 2011 at 6:55 AM

I don’t care what kids think. Why are they involved in this at all? They should be out playing, reading, and just plain being kids. Adult fascination with turning little kids into little adults is very creepy if you ask me. No I didn’t watch the video because I think this stuff is nonsense.

Once they hit high school they’ll be completely indoctrinated until they have to provide for themselves and protect their money from the progressives. Around 30 years old I figure.
