Knowing who it was who organized this thing, I feel like a sucker for even deigning to write about it.

Hundreds of Osama bin Laden supporters clashed with English Defence League extremists today as a “funeral service” for the assassinated terror leader sparked fury outside London’s US Embassy…

US leaders were branded “murderers” by radicals, who warned vengeance attacks were “guaranteed” and shouted: “USA, you will pay.”…

It was organised by controversial preacher Anjem Choudary, who told reporters after the ‘service’ that America had created a new generation of Islamic terrorists.

He said: “There will be one million Osamas. Muslims will remember Osama as a great man who stood up against Satan. Many will want to emulate his acts.

“In Britain we have other options – like political action, but in other countries if your land is attacked or your family are put at risk you must defend yourself.

They ended up with a crowd of around 300, apparently. Yahoo News has loads of photos, replete with the usual incendiary signs and women in burqas. But then, generating photos was the point here. Anjem Choudary, the ringleader, is one of the most relentless media whores on either side of the Atlantic. He plays a role in the British press not unlike the one Malik Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party plays in America. Precisely because he’s a freak-show radical, he has an endless stream of invites from TV hosts who want to have him on and then rhetorically stomp on him for being such a cretin. And he’s happy to oblige, partly because it gives him an outlet for his message and partly because, hey, airtime is airtime. Here he is at today’s rally, happy as a pig in sh*t with a camera stuck in his face. No doubt he’s a true blue Islamist at heart, but these rallies he holds are so obviously designed to provoke and draw media coverage that they start to feel like performance art. After years of seeing him pull these stunts with one Islamist group after another, I’m as weary of being “shocked” as I’d be after watching a string of Lady Gaga videos. The only thing that makes him more relevant than, say, the American Nazi party when they tried to march through Skokie is that his cause does, assuredly, have more sympathizers in Britain than the Nazis had here. Decades of studious multiculturalism have ensured that.

Here’s the man himself performing his assigned media role a few months ago on Hannity, dutifully reciting Islamist talking points while the host pounds him to the audience’s delight. Choudary did make one good point at today’s rally, though: Whatever happened to the “logic” that killing terrorists only creates more terrorists? We heard that from the left ad nauseam for the last five years of the Bush presidency, yet now their hero spends his days ordering drone strikes and sending SEALs to shoot jihadis in the face, and … nothing. Go figure.
