Bin Laden’s daughter: He was taken alive, then shot in front of the family; Update: Three of four guards were also unarmed
posted at 7:25 pm on May 4, 2011 by Allahpundit
Interesting, although do note that her words are being relayed by our very good friends in Pakistani intelligence, who now have her in custody.
You don’t suppose they’d concoct a story about U.S. troops executing a prisoner in order to make Bin Laden more sympathetic to the Arab masses and to punish the U.S. for humiliating Pakistan with its secret raid, do you?
Senior Pakistani security officials said Osama bin Laden’s daughter had confirmed her father was captured alive and shot dead by the US Special Forces during the first few minutes of the operation carried out at the huge compound in Bilal Town, Abbottabad…
The official said a 12-year-old daughter of bin Laden was among the six children rescued from the three-storey compound.
The daughter has reportedly told her Pakistani investigators that the US forces captured her father alive but shot him dead in front of family members.
According to sources, Bin Laden was staying on the ground floor of the house and was dragged on the floor to the helicopter after being shot dead by US commandos.
Any corroborating evidence of this? Well, despite lip service from the likes of John Brennan about how the SEALs were prepared to take prisoners, a senior U.S. official told National Journal that it was made clear to them not to take Bin Laden alive. Ben Smith’s also noticed a couple of rhetorical quirks in Obama’s descriptions of the raid, first when he said “after a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden” and later when he referred to “the capture and death of Osama bin Laden.” The former, I think, is an accurate account of what we already know. First there was a firefight downstairs with Bin Laden’s goons, then they went upstairs and shot him. He did “resist” somehow, allegedly, but he was unarmed and thus wasn’t part of the firefight. The “capture and death” phrase is a bit more intriguing, though. I suppose you can read that as simply meaning that they killed him and then took the body, but it’s an odd way to put it.
Just one question. How would the SEALs have felt safe in approaching Bin Laden to take him prisoner, not knowing what sort of booby traps might be on him or in the house? You’d have to believe that he put his hands up the entire time, intent on surrendering, which I find hard to imagine. Although, ironically, it would have been the smart play: He wouldn’t have been tortured and he would have been guaranteed a soapbox during his trial at Gitmo or in federal court to help restore his celebrity. There was nothing else he could do to stop the SEALs when they were at the door, so why not give up and cause the Great Satan the mother of all legal headaches? And yet … I just can’t see it. He probably assumed, perhaps correctly, that the SEALs were going to take him down no matter what, so when they were finally face to face, his instinct would be to “resist” however feebly. And once he did, given the fear of booby traps, they had to shoot. No way to square that with the daughter’s story. Alternately, if you’re intent on some sort of cover-up narrative here, the likelier scenario is that Osama shot himself in the head or had one of his guards do it at some point after the SEALs arrived. There were only four or five men there with him, apparently. Once his team was overrun, there was only one way out. Assuming descriptions of his wound are accurate, though, it’d be strange for someone to shoot himself in the head above the eye rather than in the temple or on the side. Not so strange, though, if one of the couriers did it for him.
According to Rasmussen, fully 86 percent of the public approves of the decision to kill Bin Laden. Just 14 percent think the SEALs should have tried harder to capture him. I think The One’s going to be okay on this one, even if the daughter’s telling the truth. Exit question: Is the Dalai Lama among those 86 percent?
Update: The plot’s so thick now you’d need a chainsaw to cut it! From NBC:
3 of 4 men killed in assault on bin Laden compound were unarmed, never fired shot, officials tell NBC News
Why would the world’s most wanted man be living in an almost undefended compound? More thoughts on that in a later post.

My question is why, there are not enough Muslims in America to really swing the vote, 5 million maybe? Obama stuck himself there, just announce we found him , we went after him, he is dead! That would be fine for everyone , I think.

“Why would the world’s most wanted man be living in an almost undefended compound?”
Simple. He was opposite a police station, 100 yards from the military academy, in a town of retired military men, in a city with a military base. Bin Laden didn’t need bodyguards. He had ISI and the Pakistani military.
SilentWatcher on May 5, 2011 at 12:28 AM
Post-Vietnam military doctrine: WIN, PERIOD. Whatever else you might have to say about Gen. Powell, “Cut them off, surround them, and kill them” WORKS.

Heck, bring a bucketload of automatic weapons, and if possible, air support, to a fistfight.

Because he felt protected by the surrounding Pakistani Military. Females have no rights – the Pakistani’s can put whatever story they want to into his daughter’s mouth who interestingly was named after a Jew Killer – Sofia. Muslims know and so do Westerners that any female is going to do and say whatever a male tells her to. I give no weight to anything the family of a mass murder claims happens. The Pakistanis are in trouble – making stuff up to smear U.S. is only going to make it go harder on them. But they are creature of habits they only know this learned corrupt behavior of playing both ends against the middle. We have some fun games we like to play too….I wonder who is going to win in the court of public opinion? I don’t really wonder.

It has been a given that the former CIA operative Osama bin Laden died of Marfan aorta rupture years ago, 9 months after 9/11/01, witnessed by the CIA in hospital, his death affirmed by Albright, Bhutto, Theresa Heinz-Kerry, et al. But of course the CIA has bin Laden’s DNA.
It has also been a given that this past decade, Osama bin Laden had many look-alike front-men imposters. Given the 9/11 Osama “renegade” status assigned identity, it would be standard procedure for the CIA itself to have their own bin Laden imposters.
Go figure. Of course the assassins were told to take no prisoners. The girl is fortunate that her life was spared. But then, she performs as witness that her father, who spent her entire lifetime posing as bin Laden, was killed. That she was raised within the compound given the alias bin Laden identity isn’t something she’d be in a position to doubt or know better.
The CIA knew all that Pakistani Intelligence knew. It isn’t as if the CIA hasn’t its own agenda precedence which has maligned our Constitutional Governance and Rule of Law. That the foolhardy likes of Allapundit castigates Pakistani Intelligence for working hand in glove with the CIA all these years, as if Allapundit knows it all because he swallows the MSM narrative, should not surprise anyone. Allapundit consistently promotes the neoconservative agenda when it runs at odds against the Tea Party agenda.
Before forming an opinion, consider well all points of view with scrutiny.
Reagan’s partner in Pakistan, General Hamid Gul Intelligence Chief (retired) has an entirely different account that absolutely contradicts the Obama administration’s malleable and conflicting story. General Hamid Gul’s account aligns with that of the leading American intelligence operative Cabinet member in five administrations from Carter through GWBush, Dr. Steve R. Pieczenik (retired). Dr. Pieczenik oversaw the reorganization of the Navy SEALs as Chief of the Cabinet’s office that Reagan created specifically for Pieczenik to oversee our intelligence community’s psychological warfare. Dr. Pieczenik was the one in position to review all CIA reports, and knows from those CIA reports and eye witness CIA agents who saw Osama bin Laden’s hospitalization and death nine months subsequent to 9/11/01.
So all of this “unfolding” of Obama’s storyline is not simply a vain attempt to boost his ratings, but worst of all, to lead a false charge against Pakistan with the support of gullible and antagonistic Americans pursuing a WAR as if to prove a lie as truth!
Osama’s dead. No kidding.
Pakistan is our enemy. Not unless me make them so.
Better a friend of sorts with contacts than an avowed enemy with no contacts.
To date, Pakistan has established its national identity and has functioned as an American ally despite their own self interests.
Whereas, the country that has no national identity and is run by a thoroughly corrupt puppet Karzai, those Taliban from Afghanistan would terrorize Pakistan as well. Pakistan is not in position or mind to attack Afghanistan or any other neighbor at this time, nor any other Muslim nation. Pakistan is busy dealing with terrorism within Pakistan. So Obama allows Karzai to finger Pakistan for Afghanistan’s own faults. And look who not only enables Obama’s messaging, but promotes it as his own doctrine: Allapundit is for US WAR against Pakistan. Sick Alinsky policy, bad enough within America, worse yet when the US acts as Alinsky against other nations to cause indiscriminate wars.
Clean up our own Government before demanding that other nations clean theirs.
We face ruin at home. The dollar no longer holds any value except in our imaginations facing imminent utter disillusionment. We can not finance wars, and should not start wars that we have no business starting, and no means to complete given the Death of the Dollar accomplished by our cloak and dagger CinC.

At his first SOTU, when Joe Wilson cried out honestly, “You Lie!” Obama’s deceitful response was “That’s not true.”
Though he prides himself with persistence, Obama’s malleable messaging lacks credibility. He thrives on revisionism to the extent that he cannot maintain one story with his ONE VOICE administration.
maverick muse on May 5, 2011 at 8:38 AM
I honestly suspect we have known of Bin Laden’s whereabouts for a very long time, as in even during the Bush Administration, but the ADULT decision was made that Pakistan was too valuable an ally in the fight to risk alienating.
What happened is that Boy Wonder in the White House needed bot a distraction and a public opinion bounce, so the decision was made FOR him (just like any other decision) to take OBL out.
I believe this is the TRUE reason W is distancing himself from this. The Pakis knew full well where OBLY was and were quite likely providing him cover and protection, which explains the unarmed “guards” and the fact his family was present.
Just like any other issue with this (p)resident, it’s all about him and damned be anything or anyone else.

I think what we will find out as time goes on is that Hillary and Panetta got the band back together (so to speak) and they did this without Obama. He was only told at the last minute. Among many other things, that would explain why he is so clueless, why there is so much dissonance among his people, and why he was on the golf course earlier in the day. Who plays golf right before the most important raid in recent history? It would also partly explain why Billy Jeff declined his invitation to Ground Zero.

Or having to wait days, then weeks, then months, then years for proof of death as relief workers sift through the rubble for body parts to be sent for DNA testing.
Cry me a river. The fact that the SEALs didn’t slit his throat like a pig and redecorate the place with his body parts speaks volumes of their self control.
DailyDanet on May 5, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Let me start a new meme….
The reason Obama asked for a raid was because he wanted Osama captured, not killed. However, he accidentially left just enough wiggle room in the orders, that the Navy Seals, knowing Obamas track record with captured terrorists, did the right thing. Better to kill Osama in the field of battle, than allow him to be used as a political tool. Its even possible that they made sure there was a video feed blackout so they could not be questioned later.
The famous picture could be the precise moment the EKIA call went out, showing Obama’s anger at the kill (and Hillary’s shock).
Pass the tin foil.
AverageJoe on May 5, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Allah – the compound wasn’t defended because he knew Paki military would tip him off if the US came at him. He didn’t need weapons – just an escape plan. Too bad for him he didn’t calculate that Obama wouldn’t tell the Paki’s anything about the raid! LOL
As far as the mission – yeah – we killed him. It was a “kill” mission. It was a death sentence carried out on an international criminal. We have his confessions to 9-11 on videotape – guy was guilty straight up.
So … I applaud this “kill ” mission.
But the ironic thing here is …
The “kill” order was given by a man who’s repeatedly stated that he’s for “due justice” for captured terrorists. It was given by a man who wanted to try KSM in NYC – to show the world that America follows it’s Constitution – even for foreign criminals. It was given by a man who banned “waterboarding” because it was cruel and unusual torture.
Yeah – Obama … issued the KILL order.
Someone should ask him how he resolves that with all his “high and mighty” teleprompter language about American “due process”.
Glad the dude’s dead – ecstatic actually – but the irony of this doesn’t escape me!

In retrospect, it’s obvious that one of 0bama’s concerns with JDAMing the compound was that it was so embedded at the geographical heart of the Pakistani military homeland, that if it went wrong/got the wrong guy/Pakistani general/etc., we would have the whole Pakistani military instantly aligned again us, instead of just part.
So I have no quarrel with 0bama sending in a ground team. But for chrissakes, once it was confirmed it WAS Osama, then we should/should’ve bombed a 1-mile radius into rubble, to SEND THE MESSAGE.

Something about this doesn’t make a lot of sense.
A while ago an email made the rounds of a South American drug lord’s house that had been raided with all the closets full of weaponry and huge Rubbermaid containers full of money from various countries.
I would have expected that the criminal mastermind of Al Quaida would have had been at least as armed and rolling in dough as the kingpin of a drug kingdom.
So where was his reputed wealth? Why was there seemingly not a single IED, machine gun, suicide vest, or even a rusty scimitar?
Did the Seals wander around wondering “This is it? Not a single firecracker? This place has got to be booby-trapped? Where’s the trigger?”
So if all he had was a measly 500 Euros sewed into his robes, and a couple of emergency contact numbers? Why?
Lily on May 4, 2011 at 8:01 PM
Hmmmmm. “wheels” on May 4, 2011, @ 7:55 PM said that because there were no guns around – it sounded like OBL was under house arrest.
Thinking about it all, Bin Laden being there under house arrest makes the most sense. Right under the noses of the Paki military and police – barbed wire – no guards – no weapons – living conditions clearly not luxury – phone #s and cash sewn inside of his clothing —-
Was he hiding in plain sight, or was he imprisoned/under house arrest by the Paki government? Would he have trusted the Paki government enough/so much that he would so brazenly make himself the neighbor of the Paki’s West Point? There’s just NO logic in that scenario. This is a guy half the world wants to kill, and who has a $25 million reward out on his hide.
I’m wondering more and more whether the wheels of this coup were set into motion because the Pakis gave consent for it to happen – and looked the other way when it did.
GGMac on May 5, 2011 at 4:27 PM
No risk of that. OBL was allowed to slip out of Tora Bora through crass incompetence. Then Bush openly admitted that he didn’t care about OBL’s whereabouts once it became clear he couldn’t find him. He even closed down the effort to find him in 2005.
No, George Bush didn’t get OBL. President Obama did.
chumpThreads on May 4, 2011 at 9:04 PM
We’ve been told Bin Laden was living in that compound for 6 years, which would mean he took up residence there in 2005. IF, as is looking more and more possible, Bin Laden was actually under house arrest, Bush’s remarks, and that he then closed down the search effort in 2005, would make perfect sense.
More food for thought.
