Kucinich Moving On Out from Ohio?

posted at 3:15 pm on May 3, 2011 by Jazz Shaw

People in other parts of the country have, on more than one occasion, scratched their heads and wondered, “how does a guy like Dennis Kucinich” keep getting elected to Congress? (More on that below, which I believe you’ll enjoy.) Well, one possible solution to that question my be popping up in the Buckeye State as they consider their redistricting options for the next decade. If you can’t vote Kucinich out, maybe you can just get rid of his congressional district entirely.

What would that do to the congressman’s future plans? Oh, he still intends to be holding a seat in the House. He’s just not sure what area he will represent. One option on the table is apparently to pack his bags and go represent Washington state.

Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich may be considering a move. The eight-term Cleveland congressman is rumored to be interested in moving out of Ohio to seek re-election to Congress from Washington State’s new 10th district.

According to Kucinich’s communications director Nathan White, “After people found out that Congressman Kucinich’s district could be eliminated or substantially altered in congressional redistricting by the Ohio Legislature’s Republican majority, Congressman Kucinich received requests from people in twenty states, including Washington State, encouraging him to move and run in their area.”

White said that Kucinich plans to return to Congress, but hasn’t decided which district to run in.

I can relate to his situation because our congressional district in New York is rumored to be on the block this year, and it’s really putting a crimp in the style of potential candidates looking for a shot at the seat. But many states go through this dance every ten years, so I’m sure we’ll muddle on through somehow.

Back to the question of how Kucinich keeps getting elected, though. I suppose we could turn to any number of veteran political analysts for answer, but what fun would that be? Much better, I think, to hand the question off to John Oliver of The Daily Show who faced Dennis down with precisely that inquiry. Video follows.

BONUS: While I know it’s totally below the belt, at the 1:30 mark in the video, Oliver shows Kucinich a picture of him and his amazingly beautiful wife and asks him to explain it. When Dennis doesn’t understand what he means, Oliver says, “It’s like if a Golden Retriever tried to mate with a Chihuahua.”

I have a strange respect for Kucinich. He’s a nutjob, but like Bernie Sanders, at least he admits what his politics really are.

It kind of defeats the whole representative democracy thing when the ruling class just shops for a constituency anywhere on the fruited plain, doesn’t it?

Back to the question of how Kucinich keeps getting elected

Because his district is packed with idiots similar to those in Pelosi’s district.

Why is Dennis sitting on that man’s lap?

And I am sure Washington state is going to just greet him with arms wide opened.

Or with arms opened wide.

Or heavily armed.

Whatever comes first.

I think Michigan is going to take advantage of their loss of a congressional seat by messing around with the SE part of the state. There are a few, way far left dinosaurs that need to be retired. One of them will get redistricted out of a district.

karenhasfreedom on May 3, 2011 at 3:29 PM

So if Dennis get’s scratched off the map, does that mean he’s gone instantly?

Knucklehead on May 3, 2011 at 3:30 PM

Eh. Sadly, even if he leaves, there are lots of others just waiting to take his place. Besides, we still have Sherrod Brown and he may be just as nutty as Kucinich, but in a far more frightening way. Let’s have a Daily Show special on that, please.

cynccook on May 3, 2011 at 3:31 PM

I like him. Same reason I like Bernie Sanders. They’re both socialists but they’re open about it. I don’t agree with much of what he stands for but I can appreciate his honesty about his views.

Going to WA makes sense. If the new district is along the I-5 corridor (Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia) he’ll win with 80% of the vote.

angryed on May 3, 2011 at 3:31 PM

Well, this would go to show that Kucinich is not *really* interested in representing the people of Ohio or in making a difference in the place where he lives. He is more interested in simply making a career out of wining elections and if he can’t do that at home, then he will move to someplace else.

If he really had public service in mind, he could do lots of other things including running for state office and being a force for his beliefs at that level. But no. His love isn’t really Ohio or its people. His love is Washington politics and he will move wherever he needs to in order to stay in that game.

Be careful, Washington state, Kucinich is apparently a political whore and if things don’t suit him there, he might just be moving on again to some other place. It is about him, not about you.

People in other parts of the country have, on more than one occasion, scratched their heads and wondered, “how does a guy like Dennis Kucinich” keep getting elected to Congress?

Unfortunately, I live in Kook-Cinich’s district and have met him and his wife on many occasions. Have also heard him speak in person and rail against the “evil Republicans.” Unless you have been in the same room with him, you can not truly appreciate what a frightening looney-toons he really is and can be.

Having said the above, how does he keep getting elected to Congress? Because his district is packed full to the brim and overflowing with Democrat voters, union leaders and members, and other assorted cheats, liars and frauds.

Trust me when I tell you, the voters who support Dennis really do like him, even though they’ll be the first to tell you that they think he’s a crackpot.

karenhasfreedom on May 3, 2011 at 3:29 PM

That’s the right place to do it for other reasons, too.

Detroit got so depopulated by everything that’s happened there in the past decade that it makes it easier to, say, combine the districts of guys like Dingell, Conyers, Levin, etc., all of which are in or around Detroit.

“After people found out that Congressman Kucinich’s district could be eliminated or substantially altered in congressional redistricting by the Ohio Legislature’s Republican majority, Congressman Kucinich received requests from people in twenty states, including Washington State, encouraging him to move and run in their area.”

Any district lefty enough to elect Kucinich 8 times can’t be turned red by adding in a few thousand Republican voters.
Shouldn’t the Ohio legislature be targeting districts where Dems win CLOSE elections?

But if Kucinich’s district does get carved up, why doesn’t he move to Frisco and challenge Nancy Pelosi in a primary?

Fellow lefty whackadoodle Betty Sutton will breathe a huge sigh of relief if Dennis The Menace leaves Ohio. Rumor has it that her district will be merged with his, and the erstwhile Cash For Clunkers Queen — and longtime public union shill — has been laying low and avoiding the media for months. No doubt she’s been praying for something like this.

She’s cultivated a moderate facade to fool blue collar Dems into voting for her, but if she’s forced to go head-to-head with Kucinich that mask will have to come off.
