Hot Air Primary Survey Results: May Edition

posted at 3:55 pm on May 3, 2011 by Patrick Ishmael

With over 6000 votes cast, Sarah Palin has again won the Hot Air GOP primary survey. She leads a field of Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, and Mitch Daniels, among others.

The map:

(If you’re unfamiliar with the map controls, they’re laid out here. “Trial and error” isn’t a bad approach, either.)

The table:

Let me say up front, as I’ve said before, that these numbers are legitimate — they represent one vote per voter. So, Ron Paul’s people have come out in force, and thus have put him into the fourth spot.

The Hot Air Presidential primary, over time.

There appears to be a growing separation between Hot Air candidates, with a bit of a space developing between the candidates who have taken 5% and 10% of the vote. We’ll see if that pattern holds up going forward. Also note the dip in Palin support; she still leads by a significant margin, but her vote-take this month was her second-worst to date.

The top vote getter for Vice President? Allen West, whose percentage of the vote actually grew from 19% in April to over 24% in May. He comfortably leads a tight pack of candidates, starting with Paul Ryan, followed by a Michele Bachmann/Marco Rubio tie (our first ever tie in the top 5,) and Herman Cain (the only candidate to appear in the top 5 of both the President and VP surveys.)

Any of the results surprise you? Think we should ask something we haven’t yet? Interested in a result or crosstab I haven’t posted? Tell me here or in the comments.

Mostly in the DC area (George Will participated?) and one vote in Utah (maybe his mom?)

Palin has been fairly quiet this past winter. In a couple months, Palin’s kids will be out of school, and soon after that she will be beyond the reach of the frivolous ethics complaints that continue to dog her, and she will be traveling and speaking more, raising money and getting plenty of coverage. I don’t pretend to know when she’ll announce, but I’m betting she will, and then you can watch all these other milquetoast pretenders slink away, cowering as she will be loaded for bear.

It seems no one like Sarah Palin, but the people!

She was well received in the San Joaquin Valley of California on Sunday, where she started off by taking a run with service men and women:

http://thespeechatimeforchoosing.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/sarah-palin-speaks-to-the-california-central-valley-about-the-dangers-of-big-government-3/

And her speech last night in Colorado crashed the live stream servers!

Anyone who thinks Sarah Palin won’t be our next President is going to be in for a big surprise.

NickDeringer on May 3, 2011 at 6:04 PM

Uhh, no he ain’t.
But none of us are gonna sit home against barack insane obama.
Trust me.

Lanceman on May 3, 2011 at 6:06 PM

Again–why does HA run these polls? A total waste of time.

Meredith on May 3, 2011 at 5:34 PM

Uh, yeah, it was sarcastic. And you have to click on and comment on a thread that is a “total waste of time”? That always puzzles me.

pseudoforce on May 3, 2011 at 6:02 PM

ZING!
Yes Meredith, if you find it to be such a waste of time, then why are you here in the 1st place?

pseudoforce on May 3, 2011 at 6:04 PM

LMAO!

Badger40 on May 3, 2011 at 6:07 PM

^ I mean, you’ve got all those independents to pull you over the finish line…T-Paw, Romney, Daniels, doesn’t matter.

pseudoforce on May 3, 2011 at 6:07 PM

Because she’s a witchy unelectable warthog from hell!!!!111eleventy!!11!! and TWS likes Mitch!!!!!

pseudoforce on May 3, 2011 at 6:04 PM

She’s not a witch!!!

Lanceman on May 3, 2011 at 6:06 PM

Well I’m sure the hell not & I didn’t last time.
Bcs I knew McCain was certainly a better choice than what we have now.
I’m really starting to almost believe Hillary would have been a better choice than BO.
But I do know that really isn’t true.
They just destroy things in different ways.
McCain would have destroyed a little less.

Badger40 on May 3, 2011 at 6:08 PM

I too am worried that the Palinistas will be so unhappy they will stay home and pout in November of 2012, the same way the Hillary crowd did in 2008.

NickDeringer on May 3, 2011 at 6:04 PM

But of course when your favored milquetoast gets his ass handed to him in November 2012, you’ll have your excuse all ready to go. This’ll be fun to watch.

pseudoforce on May 3, 2011 at 6:09 PM

Riiiight….cuz the chillbilly has never like, even run a lemonade stand before.

Density, meet thy match.

ornery_independent on May 3, 2011 at 5:45 PM

The only people who call Palin by the names the lefties use are Palin supporters. That is a very strange way to show respect.

I have said over and over that she is the best among the newbies… West, Cain well maybe not Cain. She is even with Cain, but she has more baggage. She has done a little govenment but not business and he has done business but not government. But better than Bachman, or any of the others with similar experience. They are not my first string choices.

I am not against people with a record. In fact I am for people with a record. I want more than talk. I want proof that they understand the job and can do it, for more than a couple of years.

None of them are perfect. I am not a wide eyed teenager. I know they all have problems, and mostly they will get a clean slate with me to prove themselves in the Primary.

But I have a problem with Romneycare, I think it will handicap the fight against Obamacare, though I don’t really have a problem with Romney himself, and I have a problem with Palin’s resignation and her style, I don’t really like the combativeness, though I have no problem with her political views. I am not convinced she can do the job. Those two are handicapped a bit going in.

Oh and Huckabee is pretty much last–tied with Trump.

Those are my choices so far… or anti-choices.

So when Palin breaks the news that she’s not running, who will be your choice?

NickDeringer on May 3, 2011 at 6:04 PM

I think that there are very few GOP possibilities who could beat PBHO. However, I think if one of those 2 or maybe 3 win the nomination the odds of victory are very good. As of now, I would say that T-Paw or Romney are the only ones who are definitely running who would win a general election (I don’t know Johnson well enough to say). If he runs, I think Daniels would have the best shot in addition to being my favorite. Really, as I see it, PBHO’s future will come down to who wins the nomination more than how he does between now and then. I think America has his measure and wants him gone, but needs an acceptable alternative.

Um, many in the Hillary camp jumped the fence after the way she was treated by the Dems and Obamabots. Try visiting http://www.hillbuzz.org to see a group of very vocal ones who now support Gov Palin.

So when Palin breaks the news that she’s not running, who will be your choice?

NickDeringer on May 3, 2011 at 6:11 PM

And how ’bout you?
I can swallow the $hit pill if I have to.
I did it last time.
Bcs it’s pretty much all about the SCOTUS appointments, sadly enough.

Badger40 on May 3, 2011 at 6:14 PM

So when Palin breaks the news that she’s not running, who will be your choice?

NickDeringer on May 3, 2011 at 6:11 PM

Here’s the deal: By the time it gets here to Florida, the candidate was already chosen.
But of the list that is there at the moment, Cain or Bachmann.

I’d really like W., though. As a benign dictator.

Lanceman on May 3, 2011 at 6:14 PM

Again folks, this will all come out in the laundry.
What some folks are trying to do is scare away some that might be considering running.
Like Palin.
Or Bachmann or WhoTH ever.
This vilification of someone before any announcements is really getting old.
If you don’t like someone, then say why.
Like for instance, I do not personally agree with Huckabee on some things, including the way he treats those of the Mormon faith.
Plus when he speaks, I feel violated. I do not like who he is.
so I will not vote for him.
But if I had to against Obama, it’s the lesser of the 2 evils, one more effing time.
WTH else can a person do?
We do need to make it easier for people with good leadership skills to run.
People have to know that they aren’t going to be maliciously attacked constantly, like Palin was & still is, just bcs they speak on issues or entertain running for public office.

T-Paw support M.O’s ‘food police’ crap.
I’ve battled an eating disorder for 25 years-so that garbage doesn’t fly with me.
That is why I no longer support him.

annoyinglittletwerp on May 3, 2011 at 6:19 PM

If Palin wasn’t a broad, we would not be having this conversation.

Lanceman on May 3, 2011 at 6:19 PM

I kinda wish Ted Nugent would toss his hat in the ring…but I can see how the tree hugger folks would pitch a hissy fit when he put up a high game fence around the White House and hunted from the rose garden. ;)
