The Italian Job – Day 3
posted at 6:10 pm on May 1, 2011 by Jazz Shaw
The stalwart Capt. Ed is well into his third day of undercover work in Italy, exposing the corruption inherent in Europe’s willful manipulation of the Euro. But it turns out that Pope John Paul II was set for Beatification, so he and the First Mate went to attend the ceremonies. Well… as Ed explained, “attend” might be a bit strong of a word. With attendance literally in the millions, they didn’t actually make it inside for that actual process, but joined a massive throng of worshipers paying their respects. As such, I’m sad to report that we have no actual photographs of the ceremony.
But it was still a lovely day, and following the services the Morrisseys met up with some new friends and took a stroll through Rome and out to dinner. A few more pictures follow.
First up is a shot Ed took of the river Tiber when crossing the bridge which connects the Vatican with Rome proper. It was a perfectly lovely day with fine weather.

Ed and the First Mate met up with some friends, the Vigilante family, and headed for dinner in Rome. This is the Piazza, which they passed en route to dining at La Maremma.

Here’s the happy couple at dinner at La Maremma. Ed tells me that if you ever get the chance to visit, be sure to ask for Sabrina as your server.

And finally here is a group shot with the Vigilantes having dinner at La Maremma. The young lady center right is Sofia, who took the previous photo of the Morrisseys and, according to Ed is quite handy with a camera.

That’s all for today, folks. Tomorrow Ed should be heading out to nab some Italian officials engaged in questionable activities and have a full investigative journalist report.

Historians claims that gelato was invented by Bernardo Buontalenti for the court of Francesco de’ Medici in 1565.
de’ Medici was one lucky dude.

Capt. Ed, there is a gellato place just across the street from the wall of the Vatican on the side near the museum entrance (I never did learn directions there). It has an open store front and is superb. Probably the best in Italy…the world? I hope you and the Mrs. have a wonderful trip!

Ah, I see it now, -charge off a vacation as a work trip.

Wow….Cap’n Ed and the First Mate look awesome! I wish they would adopt me next time they go! :-). Actually, today was #2 grandchilds’ 9th birthday and we went to Carrabas Italian…about as close as I could get to Italy I guess.. She had a great birthday though so all is well.
Enjoy Ed and Marcia! Be sure to post lots and lots of pics when you get back here to realityville.

Wonderful photos. Ed sent me a tweet earlier today that there was no way to get in to St. Peter’s Square unless you were prepared to camp there all night. As Jazz mentioned and if anyone watched the news, there were millions trying to get in. I guess I’m a rare person who loves to see peoples’ vacation photos, and I’m looking forward to Ed’s vacation blogs when he returns. Have fun kids, and enjoy your time off.

The Arroyo family, I believe is also in Rome commemorating the Beatification of Pope Paul 2nd. Mr. Arroyo is a well known author, columnist, and the production manager of EWTN. Maybe you would have the opportunity to meet him and his family. I also believe he was instrumental in the conversion of Laura Ingraham. In any case our house wishes the very best to you Mr. & Mrs. Morrissey. We pray you are blessed beyond measure on your trip of a lifetime.

Little known fact: “Dominos Pizza” in Italian is pronounced “crappy-ass garbage food”.

I’ve been to 27 countries around the world. I’ve never been to Italy. One of these days, I will go there.

Ed seems to have slimmed down some and the First Mate is as beautiful as I could have ever imagined. Like all of our main squeezes: far better he or we deserve.
Enjoy the sojourn, Ed, and hurry safely back to all of us.

According to my Garmin (that has maps of Rome/Italy) no they don’t. Rome does have McD’s, however I never stopped by one when I was there.

Tell us about the beatification, Ed!!

The Tiber river looks completely different then it did in December.
What Piazza is that? I don’t recognize it from my trip.

Careful over there, Ed. The IslamoNazis are going to be restless.

And they do make a beautiful happy couple. Such infectious smiles!
But ED, DO be careful over there. Like the previous commenter said, things may just have gotten more dangerous for Americans abroad and we want you back safe and sound.
