Ya know, lefties have been blathering about righties being unable to talk about anything but this birth certificate issue. Let me just point out:

1 – it is *they* who couldn’t seem to stop talking about it and keeping it alive as an issue…

2 – it is *they* who won’t STFU about it *still*. Isn’t Obama himself now doing what Matthews was just whining to Buchanan about the other day?

Midas on April 28, 2011 at 11:04 PM

It really is stupid of him to behave this way. The reason he released the BC (by his staffers’ own admission, per MSM accounts) is because the issue was hurting him in the polls. The people he has to win back are by definition already suspicious of him and the least likely to be impressed by this smirking and preening.

Trump, Birtherism, and Race-Baiting
***********************************

The one radical thing about Barack Obama is his race, his name. Of course, there is nothing innately radical about being black or having Hussein as middle name; what is radical is that he has those attributes and is sitting in the Oval Office.

And even now, more than two years after the fact, this is deeply disturbing to many people, and, at the same time, the easiest way to arouse visceral opposition to him. Let’s be even plainer: to do what Trump has done (and he is only the latest and loudest and most spectacularly hirsute)

is a conscious form of race-baiting, of fear-mongering.

And if that makes Donald Trump proud, then what does that say for him? Perhaps now he will go away, satisfied that this passage has sufficiently restored his fame quotient and television ratings.

The shame is that there are still many more around who, in the name of truth-telling, are prepared to pump the atmosphere full of poison.

No amount of damage control will help the Democrats. Releasing the BC now doesn’t score them back any of the points they lost when the issue backfired on them. All they can hope to do is try to stem the bleeding.

A Certificate of Embarrassment
Published: April 27, 2011
*************************

With sardonic resignation, President Obama, an eminently rational man, stared directly into political irrationality on Wednesday and released his birth certificate to history. More than halfway through his term,

the president felt obliged to prove that he was a legitimate occupant of the Oval Office. It was a profoundly low and debasing moment in American political life.(More…………..)

AltHouse ways in on (NYT)!
—————————-

April 28, 2011
The NYT calls the “birther” issue “a baseless attack with heavy racial undertones.”

The editors want to make sure you see the issue as racial:
************************************************************

[T]he birther question was never really about citizenship; it was simply a proxy for those who never accepted the president’s legitimacy, for a toxic mix of reasons involving ideology, deep political anger and, most insidious of all, race….

It is inconceivable that this campaign to portray Mr. Obama as the insidious “other” would have been conducted against a white president.
Inconceivable? Really?

There was a price to the party for keeping the issue alive; inevitably, it was picked up by a cartoon candidate, Donald Trump, who rode birtherism directly to the prime-time promontories of cable TV. The Republican establishment began to wince as it became increasingly tied to Mr. Trump’s flirtations with racial provocation, and Karl Rove told him to knock it off.
Oh! The evil Karl Rove is back… seemingly as a measure of how much more evil the birthers are.

Obama will be judged, and s/b judged, by his competence. He should always have been judged by his abilities to run for the job and to do the job. All other is noise. So far he’s an utter failure.

We are starting to get to know this President a little better, and his chief besetting fault is increasingly clear: the President falls between stools. He is a man of half measures, a man who spends so much money hedging his bets that he loses even when he wins.

Just read this on Gateway Pundit, a shocking quote from Obama which really exposes how little he knows about America and capitalism. In speaking about the Republican budget proposal, he says:

“It’s a vision of a small America, of a shrunken America, where those of us who are lucky do great and don’t have to give anything back”

There you have it folks. The President of the United States of America believes that success is nothing more than “luck.” And this core belief drives his handling of the economy, in fact his entire presidency. He should be slaughtered by the GOP for this quote. Slaughtered!

Sharke on April 29, 2011 at 12:06 AM

Obama sure seems proud of himself for his role in getting the birth certificate released. There’s a lot of that going around.

Terrie on April 29, 2011 at 12:09 AM

Who is Glenn Loury, and does he read other blogs? Has he read Obama’s books? He didn’t seem to realize at first that Obama had talked openly about his cocaine use, setting up Loury’s speculation that Bush – whom he assumes did, in fact, use cocaine – was given a pass on something that Obama would not have been. He says that Bush got a pass, but for a black man like Obama, cocaine use is political (I guess?) “death”

This exchange takes place between the 5:00 and 6:15 minute marks. When McWhorter talks about Obama admitting having used the drug, Loury doesn’t sound at all surprised.

Very confusing.

I listened/watched that part twice – did I miss something?

BadMojo on April 29, 2011 at 12:25 AM

This is Obama’s job description. Remember what the Dims want to do…create a permanent Dim Majority…a progressive future. How do they do that.

One big part is focus on the minority populations:

The most important factor shaping the political landscape in 2012 is the economy. But on top of that, the growth of the minority population continues to slowly tilt the electorate toward the Democrats. And it’s not as slow as you think. Ron Brownstein has a must-read about how this trend will effect 2012. The nonwhite share of the adult population is growing at about 0.5% a year, meaning that — if every group votes at the same rate as before — nonwhite will constitute 2% more of the electorate in 2012 than they did in 2008. That’s a lot.

The big picture is that President Obama can continue to lose white voters pretty badly. He won just 43% of the white vote in 2008, and can win reelection with an even lower share next year

I know this dream of the left has been kicking around for a while…but they are still at it

He looked awful pleased with himself didn’t he. At that point I suppose it had yet to dawn on him that he had just initiated his own downfall. He didn’t yet realize that insiders set him up.

I would love to have been there the moment his addled mind began putting together all the little pieces. I wonder if he will ever know who betrayed him. I can envision Obama wandering the White House studying faces, desperately trying to figure out who was responsible for letting him release an absurd fake. They didn’t even try to hide what they had done, which tells me it was intentional. They wanted to out him.

Someone just shoved a bogus birth certificate into the president’s back. Who did it, Barry?

Stayright on April 29, 2011 at 1:04 AM

Obama thinks anti-Americanism is a verdict on America’s fitness for leadership. I would suggest that “leading from behind” is a verdict on Obama’s fitness for leadership.

Leading from behind is not leading. It is abdicating. It is also an oxymoron. Yet a sympathetic journalist, channeling an Obama adviser, elevates it to a doctrine. The president is no doubt flattered. The rest of us are merely stunned.

Great post at AoSHQ about this.

Just Noting

Obama’s greatest victory of the entire past year — his crowning achievement for the past twelve months in the most powerful office in all the world — is his celebrated triumph in successfully producing a common form of secondary identification.

This is what he’s doing victory laps on right now. That’s what Chris Matthews is praising him to the heavens for. snip

Just noting. snip

This is his big initiative for the month? He showed a piece of identification?

Years from now, looking back at the “good times,” he’ll turn to a former adviser and say, “Remember — remember when I produced the shit out of that birth certificate? Like a Warrior-Poet I made a routine request of a petty bureaucrat for a mundane copy of run of the mill paperwork. Days of wine and roses that was, days of… Glory.”

lowandslow on April 29, 2011 at 1:54 AM

lowandslow on April 29, 2011 at 1:54 AM

Pretty good post, but it’s based on a false premise. Well, since his greatest service to the country will come the second he flips the switch on the Oval Office lights for the last time, in a perverse way yesterday was indeed his crowning achievment for someone has turned on Obama. Yesterday’s release doomed him. He is facing a plotters within. Someone knew this fraud would be detected. It was too obvious to go undetected, so I really believe an insider shanked him.

In addition to the graphic problems, there’s another huge tell. If you compare the newly released document with the Kenyan birth certificate Lucas Smith supposedly obtained, you will notice they both have signatures dated 8/7 and 8/8 for a birth on 8/4.

How can that be? That information wasn’t on his COLB and could not have been put together by Lucas Smith from other sources because that information was unknown until YESTERDAY. So, we’re to believe details from the Lucas Smith document just happen to match details the Obama White House relased yesterday?

I don’t think so!

No, either those responsible for creating the new document gleaned their information from the Kenyan birth certificate when creating their forgery, or the Kenyan birth certificate was the original source of information recorded by Hawaii in 1961.

If you don’t believe that’s significant you have to believe it was pure coincidence that these documents have separate, but different, matching signature dates. What are the odds of that?

I think Obama has a big problem.

Stayright on April 29, 2011 at 2:26 AM

Trump’s Presidential “Campaign” –– now Obama’s supporters are apoplectic over The Donald’s “thinly-veiled racism”, straining at the traces to pull the race card out? That’s their only big gun, and they’ve used it. It didn’t keep Pelosi in power when it was pulled to criticize her jamming ObamaCare through while she marched, arms locked, with black members of Congress, to try and paint the legislation as comparable to the Civil Rights Movement. The primer in that cartridge is shot.

And if I may ever so humbly remind as I commented earlier! How is this a freaking winning issue?!:

“Oh look. Obama’s winning on this issue! He’s smiling and laughing and conservatives are running in circles now.”
“How come?”
“He proved he was born in the US!”

I don’t know. If you’re President and your winning issue is you finally proved to America you were born here you’ve got some problems.

Yeah. Obama has handled this issue so brilliantly the past two years that all he has succeeded in doing is creating more and more doubt, by every poll taken, that he was ever born in the US. He’s a genius!

Why’d the queen let Kate wear the crown, while she wore that stoopid yellow hat?

Prince chuck had the fugliest wife in church, hands-down. If I were in his shoes, I’d be forcing her into a burkha.

Krauthammer says that conspiracies never die, they become irrelevant

Hmmmm…….just like the MSM and Barry Obama.

GarandFan on April 28, 2011 at 11:20 PM

Krauthammer is right about this I think. It is like the whole Truther nonsense, or the Haliburton paranoia..it just sort of fades away and is replaced by a new conspiracy theory. But true birthers won’t care what kind of evidence Obama presents, there will never be an answer for them. That would spoil all the fun.

I can think of about a million other reasons not to support Barack Obama that have nothing to do with all this stuff.

Charles, an eminent physician and a man I once admired, Ann Coulter, a woman I once would have died for and many others I used to respect, have just thrown in the towel. They have declared the birth certificate question a non-issue, and defined Trump as a snake-oil salesman of the first order. Why? Because they know what kind of a s&itstorm will ensue if and when Barry is exposed as the liar, fraud and criminal that I firmly believe he is. Those east-coast elitests and west coast closet liberal snobs could have seen a BC delcaring Junior Tracy and Moon Maid as the parents and they would have said,”Good enough for me, let’s get on with it!”
I for one am sick to death of people telling me who I like and who is not worthy of my attention. From this point on, two people in the latter catagory are Kruthhammer and Coulter.

About that new birth certificate, I quote myself from earlier…

In addition to the graphic problems, there’s another huge tell. If you compare the newly released document with the Kenyan birth certificate Lucas Smith supposedly obtained, you will notice they both have signatures dated 8/7 and 8/8 for a birth on 8/4.

How can that be? That information wasn’t on his COLB and could not have been put together by Lucas Smith from other sources because that information was unknown until YESTERDAY (Wednesday now).

Think people think!!!! This is not coincidence. This was done with intent. Anyone know where Ashton Kutcher has been hiding? Obama has been punk’d!!!!

Stayright on April 29, 2011 at 9:07 AM

If what I am saying about the Kenyan birth certificate and the new one provided by Obama is wrong, please explain it to me. I suspect the Kenyan birth certificate is as bogus as we’ve always believed it to be. I think someone intentionally copied details from it knowing it would raise red flags. And also knowing Obama would never figure out what they had done until it was made public. This just can’t be coincidence.

The morning after and not many comments on this thread. Seems Hot Air readers are not much interested in a national conversation about the President’s race and racism.

The Obama Administration and the left seem resolved accusations of racism will be an important part of the Obamoid’s re-election campaign. So vote for the guy who thinks the nation has not progressed in 50 years and remains “fundamentally mean”. That’ll work . . . not.

I won’t vote for Obama because his lefty policies inevitably fail. I will work and donate to secure his defeat (in part) because he accuses me of being ignorantly hateful in that I will not vote for him. Accusations of racism will ensure the right remains engaged to secure his defeat. 11-2-2010 was a great day. 11-6-12 looks to be similar if the left pushes racism without evidence.

Herman Cain for President! (Thank you Donald. Now go away.)

exdeadhead on April 29, 2011 at 10:35 AM

If this was released,3 years ago, that would have been the end, period. Obama has no one to blame but himself and the sycophant media for this dragging on so long.

Here’s a question. You’re a Democrat, you believe Obama was born in Kenya so you want to help him out, but it takes a long time to fix documents like this. When you’re finally finished, you tall him it’s ready and he can request his BC at any time. Is that possible? Of course it’s possible but improbable, I’m just saying, time can add to conspiracies rather than remove all doubt. He should have done this years ago.
