Jimmy Carter: U.S., South Korea are violating North Koreans’ human rights by withholding food

posted at 5:43 pm on April 28, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Greg Hengler, why would an American cap a three-day visit to Kim Jong-Il’s national gulag by accusing the U.S. of human rights violations? Well, much like Superman, Carter’s more a “citizen of the world” now than part of the country he used to lead. In fact, he wasn’t there on behalf of the State Department but as part of a delegation from “The Elders,” an elite team of ex-statesmen who travel the world sharing the sort of wisdom that’s made “Jimmy Carter” synonymous with successful foreign policy ideas here at home.

Kim wouldn’t meet with them, incidentally, for reasons I don’t understand. When you have a former U.S. president willing to carry your water, hand him a bucket. Instead, Kim sent them a message saying he’d be willing to meet with either South Korea or the U.S. to talk disarmament and any matters — like, say, food for the population, which may or may not be suffering an unusually harsh famine right now due to a bad winter. In theory, that would increase American leverage over Kim: The more desperately he needs food, the more willing he’ll be to make concessions to get it. But now that we’ve got this choice soundbite from an Absolute Moral Authority like Carter suggesting that other countries have a right to be fed by us without preconditions, well, who knows. Besides, after all the North has done for them lately, South Korea practically owes them, no?

So I guess what he wants us to do is borrow money from the Chicoms to feed their satellite nation? Sounds about like Obowmao, borrow money from the Chicoms to lend to Brazil for oil drilling while China has a contract with Brazil dictating that China gets all of the oil produced.
Am I missing something?

No.

Simply, “Idiot”.

If you have “The Documentary Channel” in your cable/satellite line up, may I recommend “KIMJONGILIA, The Flower of Kim Jong Il“? It was first shown last October and it’s scheduled to air again at 3:30 EDST on Friday, April 29th. Follow the link:

http://www.documentarychannel.com/movie.php?currID=8964&trailer=1

I don’t believe the young man’s statement is in the trailer, but in the film he says,

“I couldn’t the first time I ate a mouse.”

Watch the 45 second trailer. North Korea’s problems, contrary to the opinion of the second worst President of the United States, are of North Korea’s making. It is the “worker’s paradise” that the NatioanlSocialists at DNC headquarters have envisioned for us for three generations.

Jimmy Carter is not the sharpest marble around…

The last go-around NoKo was confiscating the Chinese trains that were delivering aid. Until the Chinese threatened to cut off the oil and natural gas going into NoKo. Such is life in the Magic Kingdom of Mr. Kim: using food as a weapon against his own people.

SukieTawdry on April 28, 2011 at 10:36 PM

Sad but true, to a growing branch of academics in a field called “human security” yes there is a human right to food and health care. Just went to a graduation where that “discipline” was represented. So yes, Carter is not alone in the demand that others have a right to what you make, what you grow or what you do. It’s maddening as hell being privately employed but listening to people say they have a right to my time and services…get used to it (unless of course you are a big lib entertainer or CEO of GE..no body will have a right to free services from you)

He’s right. Jimmy Carter has thinned out and looks a bit stringy and leathery, but I believe that he could provide the requisite caloric intake for a North Korean family for about 3 weeks. If it’s their human right to demand food from us, then shouldn’t it be our human right to feed them Jimmy Carter if that’s what’s available?

Just because Carter is so ignorant does not explain North Korea’s plight. Listen folks we can sit around and talk about fools like Carter all day and never explain the hunger and even starvation in N.K. The fact is the people of North Korea are hungry because of a total government. In this case communism. When one person or even a few elites control a country the people of that country will always suffer.

TomLawler on April 29, 2011 at 6:02 AM

Isn’t there a rule that former presidents just shut up and retire? Oh that’s right, it only applies to Republicans. When will Jimmy Carter be recognized as the doddering old fool that he is and just go away.

If there was actually poetic justice in this world, Jimmy Carter would be taken as a political prisoner by North Korea and thrown into a deep, dank, sunless, hole. This anti-Semite is a fraud and disgrace to concept of liberty, justice, and of human rights.

Wow. I didn’t know it was our responsibility to feed our enemies. May be if N. Korea spent more time growing food and less time making nukes to threaten S. Korea, they might not be starving. Even if they can’t grow it, it they spent less money on nukes and more money on food they will not starve.

mizflame98 on April 28, 2011 at 5:58 PM

South Korea has a climate similar to North Korea, and a higher population density, and is a net EXPORTER of food. The main difference–in the South, farmers get to keep the money from the food they sell.

North Korea does not have food because they do not grow enough just as Russia had the same problem, for the common people. North Korea want to keep causing trouble so we do not allow them the imports. Nothing says they can not use some of their land and people to plant and harvest State Gardens, after all I thought Communism was the best way to insure that your people were equally taken care of and no one would be hungry.

In theory, that would increase American leverage over Kim: The more desperately he needs food, the more willing he’ll be to make concessions to get it

Kim may be more willing to make concessions, however as the past has proven he very seldom lives up to his end of the bargain once he gets what he wants. Something that is all too typical when dealing with despot dictators.

As for Carter, the guy has always been and will always be a useful idiot. He cannot let go and face the fact he was a failed statesman so therefore he continues to inject himself in foreign and domestic affairs in an attempt to bolster and shine his tarnished statesman image fomented by his failed presidency.

In my opinion Carter’s constant meddling isn’t being done out selflessness but more for his own ego. But just like his failed and obismal presidency he fails at this too and has only made himself look like the fool and loser that he is…history will not look kindly on Carter and for good reason!
