Quotes of the day

posted at 9:00 pm on April 23, 2011 by Allahpundit

“For President Obama, critics who question his U.S. citizenship are becoming a joke.

“Last night in Los Angeles, Obama spoke with donors about the early days of his 2008 campaign, back when “the prospect of electing a Barack Hussein Obama to the Oval Office was slim.”

“‘None of you asked for my birth certificate,’ Obama said. ‘It was a complete leap of faith.’”

***
“Highlighted in yellow on page 1,218 of the thick binder is the computer-generated listing for a boy named Barack Hussein Obama II born in Hawaii, surrounded by the alphabetized last names of all other children born in-state between 1960 and 1964. This is the only government birth information, called ‘index data,’ available to the public.

So far this month, only The Associated Press and one other person had looked at the binder, according to a sign-in sheet viewed Wednesday in the state Department of Health building. The sheet showed about 25 names of people who have seen the document since March 2010, when the sign-in sheet begins…

“[The] original birth records typically include additional birth details, such as the hospital and delivering doctor, said Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the state’s former health director who twice looked at and publicly confirmed Obama’s original long-form birth records.

“But those documents are state government property that can’t be released to anyone, even the president himself, said Joshua Wisch, special assistant to the state attorney general. Obama would be able to inspect his birth records if he visited the Health Department in person, but original records of live birth are never released, he said.”

***
“[The] theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous email questioning Obama’s citizenship.

“‘Barack Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth,’ asserted one chain email that surfaced on the urban legend site Snopes.com in April 2008.

“Another early version of the theory, reported by the Chicago Tribune in June 2008, depended on a specious legal theory that was, for a time, the heart of the argument: that Obama was born in Hawaii but had a Kenyan father, and his mother was only 18 years old. Therefore, under existing immigration law, he was not eligible for automatic citizenship upon birth — a claim that depended on an understandable, but incorrect, reading of immigration law. Other theories suggested that Obama lost his U.S. citizenship when he moved to Indonesia or visited Pakistan in violation of a supposed State Department ban as a young man. (There was no such ban.)…

“Ironically, the birther movement didn’t really take off in earnest until the Obama team tried to debunk it.”

***
“The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) is raising funds off efforts by opponents of President Obama who have questioned his place of birth…

“‘Republican governors, eager to score political points, keep these myths alive by refusing to unequivocally say that birtherism isn’t true and that they won’t sign any bills trying to undermine our president,’ reads the appeal from DGA Executive Director Colm O’Comartun. ‘Since they won’t act, it’s up to us to make sure they know the American people are watching.’”

***
“The reality is that ‘facts’ are unlikely to mean much to those who believe in their gut that Obama is not American. Political psychologists call this ‘motivated reasoning.’ It goes something like this: I dislike someone; I learn something positive that should make me feel better about him; instead, I dislike him as much or even more. This is clearly irrational, but our feelings about people are complicated, and we tend to hold on to them even in the face of contradictory information. This is not unique to those who dislike Obama.

“We are all somewhat impervious to new information, preferring the beliefs in which we are already invested. We often ignore new contradictory information, actively argue against it or discount its source, all in an effort to maintain existing evaluations. Reasoning away contradictions this way is psychologically easier than revising our feelings. In this sense, our emotions color how we perceive ‘facts.’…

“So the smart bet is that the birthplace issue, the Muslim issue, and any other ways in which Obama can be portrayed as outside the mainstream are not going away. And no amount of data to the contrary will change that for some people.”

***
Flashback: “I don’t understand why the Governor doesn’t just say ‘snap it up . . . send me a copy right now.’ And why doesn’t the President just say ‘send me a copy right now.’”

I’m not clear why it’s so hard to produce the birth certificate. I have mine, as well as my kids’. Couldn’t this be easily put to rest? Since when did it become impossible for someone to access their own birth certificate?

sharrukin on April 23, 2011 at 9:13 PM

“‘None of you asked for my birth certificate,’ Obama said. ‘It was a complete leap of faith.’”

It’s boils down to Obama’s contempt for a good number, perhaps all, of the American people. Birth within the US is a requirement, and Obama is well aware that his early years are not as clear as most presidents’. He should have made available the document that has been requested to show he was borne in a hospital in Hawaii. I don’t care too much about the issue at this point other than he’s been asked to present and he continues to pass.

But most especially he should present it, at the very least, to all those who are defending him. Invite them to a luncheon, show the document along with officials from Hawaii who can vouche for it, and even pass it around the room for those who would defend him on the charge that he’s not borne here so they can hold proof in their own hands. No, he’ll hang them all out to dry to keep whatever info is being hidden, hidden.

Birth Notices in paper. Meaningless, they are automatically created when someone in Hawaii reports a birth, no matter where it takes place. The grandparents had ample reason to ensure that Obama was thought an American born, they had a vested interest in the welfare payments he would get since his mother was an unemployed lackluster loser who was never going to be able to pay for Obama’s upbringing and his father”?” was a deadbeat.

The binder is nothing more than a listing of documents stored pertaining to births, again, nothing gives certainty of where the birth took place, just that he was born, I seriously doubt that any one thinks Obama was not born.

The certification of Live birth is the generic form Hawaii puts out that only signifies that they have a birth record on file, but contains not one piece of evidence as to where the birth took place.

Now, even if Obama was born in Hawaii, he also has to prove that he obtained no additional citizenship’s from either his father’s country of citizenship nor his step father’s in Indonesia. Anyone who has ever held dual citizenship or renounced their American Citizenship can never be considered Natural Born thereafter.

So, basically, Obama’s Natural Born status is very much in question and needs to be proven beyond a doubt in order to keep this nation one of Constitutional Rule of law. If we do not do something to ensure this basic Constitutional requirement of those who are able to rule over us, then there is no law whatsoever in this nation as the government becomes 100% invalid. It was created by the Constitution of the United States of America, and with in those bounds it must remain to hold any legitimacy.

3) Of course he has a birth certificate. It’s just sealed in a vault and inaccessible–even to him. This is how birth certificates are usually handled, you just weren’t aware of it. Now move along.

4) Anyway, like most of the Constitution, that whole clause about being born in the U.S. is archaic. It’s more of a suggestion than a hard and fast law.

5) Besides, even if he wasn’t born here, what does it matter? We need to learn to live in a world without borders.

Bush showed his US Passport to the House. Eisenhower produced his birth certificate. Yes, the man who led the Allied forces against the Axis powers in Europe, as American as you can get, still made the pro forma gesture of following the Constitution to the letter.

So why is that too hard for Colonel Obama?

Emperor Norton on April 23, 2011 at 9:36 PM

There’s only one way this is going to be settled. If/when enough states institute the so-called Birther law where candidates are required to produce a birth certificate in order to have their name on the ballot, Obama will have to release a copy of it to the public. There’s no way he can go into the 2012 election conceding any state(even the reddest of the red) out of this continuing refusal to show the damn thing.

Unfortunately Brewer just killed it in Arizona. Jindal has said he’d sign it if it passed in Louisiana, so we’ll see how that pans out.

For once, I agree with Tingly Matthews.

When someone’s handlers spend $1-2 million to hide/scrub the historical records, I have to conclude there is something they’re trying to hide, with place of birth possibly having nothing to do with it.

If there’s nothing to hide, then just show us the records. Simple as that.

Obama would be able to inspect his birth records if he visited the Health Department in person, but original records of live birth are never released, he said.”

Like all things liberal, you have to parse the words. Nobody is asking to get the original records removed from the archives. What they are requesting is a copy of, or photograph of those records. Heck, even a lowly peon like myself would not be able to have the original records in Denver released to me, but I can get a copy of those records. Somehow, I don’t think that Hawaii has a law prohibiting the release of the information on those records.

Ummm, didn’t Jan Brewer just destroy that lie this week? Seems like that would be a great counterpoint to the DGA screed.

Maybe this was a great political strategy win by Governor Brewer.

AZfederalist on April 23, 2011 at 9:43 PM

Anyone who calls himself a conservative and pooh-poohed the questioning into Obama’s birth certificate should hang his head in shame. Not because they didn’t put on their tin foil hats with the birther fringe nuts, but because they allowed themselves to be cowed into silence and acquiescence by a bunch of idiot leftists.

In caving so easily, they allowed what should have been an issue serious enough to sink Obama’s candidacy, to become the kind of thing the serious discussion of which brands one a loon.

It is anything but loony, though, to expect a sitting US senator, running for the presidency, to produce the one document that proves he is a natural born citizen.

Obama’s unwillingness to do so might have spared us this man-child’s disaster of a presidency. But no, we had to have some among us be so worried about what the cool kids thought of them, that now we can’t ask a perfectly reasonable question without having to first explain why it’s not unreasonable to do so.

This is clearly irrational, but our feelings about people are complicated, and we tend to hold on to them even in the face of contradictory information. This is not unique to those who dislike Obama.

“Motivated Reasoning”… Kind of like when the MSM “questions” who is really responsible for 9/11…. other than the Muslims who flew those planes into the buildings. The 9/11 truthers just asking “questions” about 9/11, but people who want to see a form – even because they are sick of this stupid side show act – those folks have “motivated reasoning”?

The problem the MSM is having is the American Public is now sick enough of this that they want it over. Only one man can end it & he chooses not to and that makes people wonder why. So good for Trump, at least he has neutered this issue for the 2012 election. He has put the ball squarely in Obama’s court. It’s time to end this game and “move on” to the business of our country not the folly of this nonsense.

Rack of PAB, I wish.

For President Obama, critics who question his U.S. citizenship are becoming a joke.

Since a bunch of states are enhancing their eligibility laws to specifically include long form birth certificates in time for the 2012 primary season – I’d say the jokes on Mr. Barry Soetoro.

He dodged a bullet in Arizona, but Louisianan, Oklahoma, and Texas will certainly pass their laws.

I’m at work, but I had to log on and get that one in before I head home. System backups are about done, so I’m about to IPL the system and blast out of here. I may rejoin the fray when I get home.

BHO Sr in not his dad but after jr was born the grand parents looked for a black guy to be his dad to legitimize him. The announcement of birth was well after bo was born. The real BC may have father unknown or someone else but not BHO Sr. The whole thing is a mess just like the marxist dufus himself. He was in Wash State with his mom registering for school Aug 19 1961, so where he was born could be anywhere, Hawaii,Wash State or Vancouver BC.

… or visited Pakistan in violation of a supposed State Department ban as a young man. (There was no such ban.) …

That’s right, there was no State Department ban. It was General Zia-ul-Haq, the military president at the time, (and who introduced Sharia law to Pakistan), who didn’t allow travel to Pakistan under a US passport.

British angel who ran to save baby girl plunging from fourth-floor Florida hotel balcony

Child’s mother: ‘That lady was an angel sent from Heaven’

On her daughter: ‘She’s perfectly fine. Not a scratch on her body’

Hero Helen Beard awarded Orange County Medal of Merit
———————————————————

She went to the U.S. as a holidaymaker but will return to Britain as a hero after catching a baby girl who was plummeting from a fourth-floor hotel balcony.
And today Helen Beard, from Worksop, Nottinghamshire, was honoured for her actions by being awarded the Orange County Sheriff Office’s Medal of Merit.

The 44-year-old was on holiday with her husband and two children in Orlando, Florida, when 16-month-old Jah-Nea Myles fell through the railings.

Miss Beard rushed to save the infant when she spotted her dangling from the balcony railings at the hotel.
Despite the heroic act Miss Beard said she didn’t consider herself a hero.

‘It feels a bit daunting to be here for something that was instinctive,’ she said as she accepted her award from Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demming.
‘It felt like it was something anyone would have done and I feel honoured to be recognised in this way.’

The little girl hit the third-floor railing on the way down, but miraculously survived without so much as a bruise. She was even described as ‘playful’ afterwards.
‘It was a very surreal event,’ Miss Beard said. ‘Luckily I had my flat shoes on and I managed to run over and catch her as she lost her grip.

Seriously though, the natural born citizen (I reject the “birther” catch all) issue can’t go anywhere, just like he’ll never be impeached, because of the likely violent and definitely expensive social repercussions. We’re a nation of men, not laws, for this president.

Think about it- If big cities have riots when their teams win ball games…

Obama was hatched from an egg in an Iranian laboratory. I’m tired of the deniers not owning up to this.

Django on April 23, 2011 at 10:27 PM

This is getting ridiculous.

Just get a copy of the BC and post it for crying out loud.

The President should fell obligated to do this. Why? Because it is unclear to the citizen’s that he serves. And it’s just plain weird.

Stop this nonsense. Show the damn birth certificate.

That would be because their efforts to debunk it were so inadequate.

I have my “memorial” birth certificate that was issued by the hospital. It has an original signature on it from the doctor. It also has my footprints on it. I had to send for a certified California Birth Record to get an AL drivers license.

BTW my son’s California Birth Record has my ex-husband’s signature on the field for “mothers signature” My son may well be the only child in history whose birth mother is a man. His “memorial” birth certificate was lost and reissued it has the word “Duplicate” on it.

kringeesmom on April 23, 2011 at 10:32 PM

A little off topic…I was at Costco earlier today with my mother. I was waiting for her to get something when this young couple walked toward me. The girls had a black tee shirt on with the word .obama in white letters on it. She looked so uncomfortable because it seemed that everyone she passed looked at her shirt and then looked at her face, including me, and then reacted negatively! The reaction she was getting must of surprised her because she looked very self concious and her boyfriend was saying lets get what we need and go (not sure it was to the reaction or he is impatient but anyway). If Obama is only relying on the youth to get him re-elected he is screwed!
