Good news: Chevy Chase has high hopes for Obama’s second term

posted at 6:51 pm on April 15, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via CNS, this is so illuminating that I don’t dare call it a palate cleanser. No, wait, that’s not what I meant to say. What I meant was, this is so comically obtuse that I feel like there should be a prize for making it to the end of the clip. There should be a five-question pop quiz on the CNS website based on things he said, and if you can prove you watched the whole thing by answering all five correctly, you get a free “Caddyshack” t-shirt or something.

Two clips for you, one of the interview and the second — for the “Billy Madison” fans out there — of the unofficial rebuttal.

Chevy, do you find yourself asking “Where did it all go so wrong?”

Because you should.

from waki:

Chase is an active environmentalist and charity fundraiser. He raised money and campaigned for Bill Clinton in the 1990s and John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential Election. Following the 2004 elections, Chase criticized President George W. Bush during a speech at a People For the American Way benefit at the Kennedy Center, referring to the President as an “uneducated, real lying schmuck” and a “dumb f*ck”. Event organizers and several Bush detractors present at the event distanced themselves from Chase’s comments, with Norman Lear remarking, “he’ll live with it, I won’t.”

Has Cornelius Crane Chase made any decent movies in, oh, the past 20 years?

Del Dolemonte on April 15, 2011 at 7:00 PM

OK. I watched the whole thing, and it was PAINFUL. I mean The Chevy Chase Show painful.

You don’t need the painkillers, Chevy. You’re bigger than them.

JohnGalt23 on April 15, 2011 at 7:01 PM

OMFG that was painful, watching Chevy trying SOOO hard not to take the mic, and really chew Obaby out !!

The ‘rebuttal’ is priceless !

I think Chevy has aged poorly. Pretty sad. Takes him too long to gather his thoughts. I will always like him in the National Lampoon Vacation films, tho.

Sherman1864 on April 15, 2011 at 7:07 PM

You know, Obama is so good at picking winners, lets hope he picks himself to win the 2012 elections.

PLEASE, someone ask Obama who will win the 2012 elections.

Emperor Norton on April 15, 2011 at 7:12 PM

Oh wow. That was baaaad. But it was semi-worth it for the rebuttal. haha

conservative pilgrim on April 15, 2011 at 7:15 PM

Chevy Chase was, is and always will be a two-bit comic and a freaking idiot.

rplat on April 15, 2011 at 7:15 PM

I’m Chevy Chase, and you’re not …… and I get down on my knees every single day and say “Thank God” !!!!

Jerome Horwitz on April 15, 2011 at 7:16 PM

The best part of Chevy Chase ran down his mamma’s leg.

hillbillyjim on April 15, 2011 at 7:17 PM

That wasn’t so hard. I watched the whole thing, and I found the nonsensical drivel mildly amusing. In fact, I took great pleasure watching Chevy Chase struggle so desperately to string several words together to make a coherent sentence. He failed, of course.

But what was most interesting was the part about Obama changing things after he’s reelected in 2012. Things like Congress – Obama’s going to change Congress. Wow.

SlaveDog on April 15, 2011 at 7:18 PM

Who knew Chevy Chase wasn’t acting

Kini on April 15, 2011 at 7:35 PM

I couldn’t do it.

I got through all of the “Sorry, Women” video that you posted last week. TWICE.

I made it through about 15 seconds here.

If that.

Who knows?
I could eat a stromboli in 15 seconds. Felt like a lifetime, watching the video. I’m not a man. I couldn’t bear Chevy Chase.

Hell, I couldn’t bear his dumb movies. I never found him to be of any particular hilarity.

blatantblue on April 15, 2011 at 7:40 PM

I thought that was Tommy Chong.

Slowburn on April 15, 2011 at 7:30 PM

Actually, Chevy used to deal to Tommy.

cynccook on April 15, 2011 at 7:41 PM

Still stuck in ’75 developmentally, huh Chevy?

You’re still funny….just not for the reasons you think.

Tim_CA on April 15, 2011 at 7:51 PM

Chevy Chase never mentions The BP spill the worse man made natural disaster and it happened on Obama’s watch. What would Chevy Chase be saying about George W Bush’s environmental record if the BP spill in the Gulf had happened on his watch? That what this entire video would have been focusing on? George W Bush and his ties to evil oil companies. What about Obama’s ties? He took a lot of campaign money from BP. But you know his intentions are good, and first he needed to get elected/SARC.

Dr Evil on April 15, 2011 at 7:54 PM

Sorry AP. couldn’t do it. made it through about 30 seconds. A clown with money can do a lot of damage.

Hmmmm….Chevy Chase is still funny. Who knew.

GT on April 15, 2011 at 7:55 PM

We have all known for years about his stultifyingly stupidity, but when did Chase become such a doddering old dork? Everyone on this thread is now dumber for having listened to it, and — oh, yes, my friends — I listened to it.

52% of the voters in this country cast their ballot for the same man as this babbling idiot.

Listen closely to 1:33 to 1:40 on the Chase video. Anyone recognize the environmental agenda change in action there?

Chevy’s best role was when he played that detective. What was his name? Oh, yeah, Felch.

Chevy should just do another Felch.

Kensington on April 15, 2011 at 8:19 PM

Maybe he can go on The View and have the genius by comparison Joy Behar slap some sense into him.

Someone needs to stop him before he speaks again.

It’s no wonder the Hollywooders identify with Obozo so much: they’re all lost when they aren’t reading from a script.

n0doz on April 15, 2011 at 10:19 PM

This was a ‘comedy’ act, right?

No one can be that stupid in that short amount of time.

GarandFan on April 15, 2011 at 10:28 PM

These Hollywood people (not all obviously) are such pitiful, empty people.

therightwinger on April 15, 2011 at 10:45 PM

Got to 1:46 and just couldn’t take it any more. The Billy Madison clip was spot on. As Rush would say, “5 minutes of rambling in vain search of a coherent thought”.

Wow, that is what passes for liberal “deep thought”? … and they have the nerve to call Sarah Palin or George Bush ignorant and uneducated.

AZfederalist on April 15, 2011 at 11:50 PM

All you have to do is read the book Live From New York to understand what a prick Chevy Chase was to then-current cast members, when he came back to host a show every now and then.

Here’s a quote from former cast member Terry Sweeney at pages 302-03: “And we were just excited to work with him. And when he got there, he was a monster. I mean, he insulted everybody. He said to Robert Downey Jr., ‘Didn’t your father used to be a successful director? Whatever happened to him? Boy, he sure died, you know, he sure went to hell.’ Downey turned ashen.”

Hey, Chevy, your talking about politics reminds me of your late night show from 1993 – you know, the one that got canceled after just six weeks – yeah, it’s that bad.

OneVision on April 16, 2011 at 12:24 AM

Chevy talking about politics = Chevy hosting late night show in 1993 (the one that got canceled after just 6 weeks).

If only someone could give him the hook yet again.

OneVision on April 16, 2011 at 12:28 AM

Maybe taking all those headshots while playing President Ford have come back to haunt him.

Hot Tub Time Machine. He is in it and it is a great movie. He does not make it a great movie, but he actually does well in his minor part.

tommyboy on April 16, 2011 at 11:08 AM

Notice one of the first attributes he gives to BHO is that “he’s smart”. They’ve convinced themselves of the meme and use it as a defense mechanism when confronted with tough questions.

Another pathetic Hollywoodian parroting the group-think as though it were an original thought….and not doing a very good job of it.

starman on April 16, 2011 at 12:17 PM

Hot Tub Time Machine. He is in it and it is a great movie. He does not make it a great movie, but he actually does well in his minor part.

Theophile on April 16, 2011 at 3:22 AM

Oh law-dy that movie is dead awful with a capital A and his part a painful cameo. I can’t stand crude humor for the sake of crudeness. It’s unintelligent.

The Billy Madison rebuttal was perfect, tho!

I didn’t want to click on the link to see how far Chevy has fallen but did and now will compartmentalize him in my mind. He’ll stay a “before 2000″ actor so his real life idiocy won’t ruin his previously fantastic movies when I see them. I love Christmas Vacation.

Renwaa on April 16, 2011 at 12:23 PM

I listened to the whole thing.

My brain is now gelatin.
