Prosser campaign to Kloppenburg: Don’t you think it’s time to concede?
posted at 7:11 pm on April 12, 2011 by Allahpundit
As of lunchtime today, 69 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties had verified their vote totals and Prosser’s still on track for a 7,300-vote lead.
Dude, it’s time.
The campaign of Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser is now saying that challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg should consider the heavy odds in a recount — and that the margin shifts that occur in them are quite small.
As WisPolitics reports, Prosser’s campaign released a statement pointing out that that the largest ever vote swing in a Wisconsin statewide recount has only been 489 votes. Prosser’s current lead is over 7,000 votes. “History does not provide a rosy picture of recounts of a half a percent or less,” said Prosser campaign spokesman Brian J. Nemoir. “While there may be a legal right to a recount, after a review of past‐results and consideration for the heavy burden upon the state, it is in the best interests of the state to have the common sense decision be made to avoid the unnecessary drama of a recount.”
That would be in the best interests of the state, but it wouldn’t be in the best interests of Democrats. The best interests of Democrats require senior citizens to humiliate themselves by pleading age and confusion after the fact in a desperate attempt to delegitimize the results of an election that the unions lost against all odds. So yes, of course there’s going to be a recount. And if they’re lucky, there’ll be some minor procedural quirk in some Wisconsin county somewhere that they can point to as further “evidence” that the vote was rigged. Let’s get on with it.
Via Gateway Pundit, here’s Kloppenburg the day after the election, before the Waukesha error was known, declaring victory for the second time already with a lead of just 200 or so votes. That was enough of a cushion to be confident in the result, apparently, but Prosser’s 7,000-vote lead? Well, that’s different.

Milwaukee County vote totals aren’t in yet.
Pray Kloppenburg doesn’t know a secret…

How hilarious would it be if she showed up for work in August anyways???
‘But…but…didn’t you see my victory speech??? I won!!!’

Did Gore ever finally concede the race in 2000, or did he just walk away after the SCOTUS decision?
joejm65 on April 12, 2011 at 8:52 PM
Yes: check AL GORE 2000 CONCESSION SPEECH.
I suspect it will be another 2000 years before we see Kloppenburg’s.
AP: Surely, it must be HUMPBOT Time!

Forget conceding — drain the union/democrat coffers of all it’s money to count the votes. Then repeat it again… And again…

The question I have, which I hope one of you has the answer to is “What happens if the election is contested and a recounting demanded?”
I would think the Supreme Court would be short one judge until the matter is settled. And if the matter can be dragged out, then when Walker’s case is brought up, the Left would stand a better chance of winning. Or perhaps the court wouldn’t even hear the case until all members are seated–in which case there would be a chance to overthrow Walker’s bill by reversing the vote through successfully recalling several Republican Senate members.
However, if what I speculated on above is wrong, then it really is hard to understand what the Left is doing–unless it’s just throwing a tantrum.
Dr. Charles G. Waugh on April 12, 2011 at 9:04 PM
Heh, I speculated last Thursday they would go Dan Rather 2004 and refuse to update the vote totals until the day Prosser’s next term begins in July.
jarodea on April 12, 2011 at 9:06 PM
From my understanding of state law, if an election is contested – it has to be for “irregularities” in voting OR because of an extremely close vote total. Then the bill is footed by taxpayers.
In this case, since there are no irregularities or a close vote margin, Kloppenburg would have to pay $5/precinct for a recount (which unions would cover).
I don’t think it would go to SCOWI unless recount was also contested. Provided left doesn’t miraculously find ballots hidden in a car trunk somewhere, it wouldn’t be.
Beyond that, I don’t know.
englishqueen01 on April 12, 2011 at 9:08 PM
I was wondering the same. Though if Prosser wins I don’t think it much matters. As I understand it the Republicans just have to repass the bill to get around the current legal issue, so Prosser doesn’t really matter. I figured the bigger worry would be if Prosser lost the 4 liberal justices could then find any reason that fit their fancy to strike down the union bill, which is moot now.

From Milwaukee radio personality Charlie Sykes’ Twitter feed:
Okay, here’s the sad part: I believe the error in Waukesha County rendered the left incapable of padding the votes for Kloppenburg.
Wisconsin NEEDS ELECTION REFORM, like, yesterday…

Ahhh, blesssd schadenfrued. At the :44 mark (or so), after the reporter asks her for the second time, she has a total deer-in-the-headlights look. She’s completely stupified that anyone would question her “victory”.
Big John on April 12, 2011 at 9:18 PM
Someone should ask her how assuming victory before votes were certified jibes with her stated judicial philosophy of making judgments only after looking at all the facts…
Her head just might explode.
englishqueen01 on April 12, 2011 at 9:21 PM
Doc, he still holds the bench until August. But after that, no telling what may happen.
Big John on April 12, 2011 at 9:22 PM
I would love it to find out the GOP gamed them. Some covert deal where the Republicans knew the Donks had the ability to manufacture X number of votes. So, they hide about 7,000 to Prosser and only reveal it after Kloppenshopper does her victory speech and they burn all the fake votes they think they don’t need now.
BRILLIANT!!!!
(I’ve probably been watching too many movies)

Now THAT would be sweet shadenfrued, he head exploding!
Big John on April 12, 2011 at 9:24 PM
We all owe this witch a huge vote of thanks. She allowed Ann Althouse/Meade to expose the tender side of union thug-ism,threats to merchants, lying school teachers, weird doctors, and a host of other liberal/progressive nutcases. We needed a wake up call and boy did we get it. Good job libs, taste the sour grape, bittersweet.
You BETCHA!

Any good comedy bit has to be based partially in reality. I laughed at what you wrote. Now I’m sad.
angryed on April 12, 2011 at 10:16 PM
That’s exactly the issue and it’s why the left is especially angry about this. They can’t give the real reason for their anger.

Here is the definitive Democrat Party response to the Prosser win.
trapeze on April 12, 2011 at 11:04 PM
It actually is JUST close enough for us taxpayers to pick up the tab (the cut-off for a free-to-the-campaign recount is a 0.5-percentage-point margin of victory, and the margin is at 0.49 percentage points).
There is no illusion from the Kloppenburg camp that the recount itself will reverse the election; it is only the gateway to a judicial appeal of the result. Their hope is that a reserve
judgeLawgiver-In-Black, appointed by SCOWI Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson for just the purpose of hearing a judicial appeal of the recount, invents a novel “legal” basis for disenfranchising a sufficient number of voters to give her the “win”, and that it survives a federal review (the state-level appeal would go to the Madison-based 4th District Court of Appeals, which would likely be nothing more than a rubber stamp for whatever came out of the kangaroo court).steveegg on April 12, 2011 at 11:05 PM
Yikes — she’s a creepy leftist! She’s got that same kind of demeanor I’ve seen in so many Bay Area lefties — a faux peaceful voice that masques their intent, breathless and non-blinking.

Contrived. She’s carefully contrived.

This weird Big Bird chick does Crazy Aunt Nancy better than Pelosi herself. What a delusional nitwit. She’s perfect for the Democrats.

The Tea Party Express just sent out a request for WI recount volunteers. http://bit.ly/fJZrwd
“Wisconsin is in urgent need of both attorneys and non-attorneys to come to the state and help oversee the imminent recount and provide needed ballot security. Wisconsin has 72 counties plus the City of Milwaukee, so the task is large, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. If successful, the upside for the country is enormous.”
“The recount will begin as early as Friday, April 15, though more likely Monday, April 18. Nothing like this has ever been undertaken in Wisconsin, and it’s going to take a willing army of volunteers throughout the state.”
DWB on April 13, 2011 at 12:46 AM
She has the same blank look in her eyes that a lefty crazy like Cynthia McKinney has. So glad she lost the race. I think she is probably reading “Rules for Radicals”. So she probably will have no explanation why she would declare victory at 200+ votes and demand a recount by losing by 7000+ votes.
