Quotes of the day

posted at 8:30 pm on April 10, 2011 by Allahpundit

“Trump is suddenly ‘winning’ as a political figure because the political class has failed. The authority of our political institutions is weak and getting weaker; it’s not that Americans ‘lack trust’ in them, as blue ribbon pundits and sociologists often lament, so much as they lack respect for the people inside them…

“No amount of His Trumpness can renew or replace American political authority. Republicans make a dangerous mistake when they think of politics as a pathological farce that can only be cured by a business worldview that sees economics as the master science. Even though, as Tocqueville observes, money really is more important in democratic times, money is not the measure of all things. We — we Republicans, we Democrats, we Americans — still need politicians who can rule wisely, bravely, and well. Look at what’s behind the huge novelty of Trump’s rise, and you find a venerable truth. There is no substitute for statesmen.”

“‘It’s kind of ludicrous at this point,’ Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the former director of Hawaii’s Department of Health, said in a rare telephone interview with NBC…

“[Fukino said] that the original so-called ‘long form’ birth certificate — described by Hawaiian officials as a ‘record of live birth’ — absolutely exists, located in a bound volume in a file cabinet on the first floor of the state Department of Health. Fukimo said she has personally inspected it — twice. The first time was in late October 2008, during the closing days of the presidential campaign, when the communications director for the state’s then Republican governor, Linda Lingle (who appointed Fukino) asked if she could make a public statement in response to claims then circulating on the Internet that Obama was actually born in Kenya.

“Before she would do so, Fukino said, she wanted to inspect the files — and did so, taking with her the state official in charge of vital records. She found the original birth record, properly numbered, half typed and half handwritten, and signed by the doctor who delivered Obama, located in the files…

“‘It is real, and no amount of saying it is not, is going to change that,’ Fukino said.”

“During an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller on Thursday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said businessman and potential 2012 GOP primary candidate Donald Trump deserves to be taken seriously as a legitimate candidate, noting that ‘Donald Trump comes to the race with some notoriety — people know who he is.’

“But when it came to Trump’s questioning whether or not President Obama was born in the U.S., Rubio said: ‘I would suggest — if he asked for my opinion — not to focus so much on that issue. There are more important things facing our country. I believe Barack Obama was born in the United States of America …So why are we talking about this?’”

***
“He’s tackling this birth thing head on. I mean head on. And they can’t say that Trump is part of the Tea Party. He’s not there. I mean he’s a marginal Republican in terms of the way people classify, but I mean nobody is out there tackling this the way he is. I actually think, by the way, that Trump is providing a blueprint here. The way to beat Obama 2012 is to just go at him. Everybody lives in this media-created fantasy that the guy’s unbeatable, that he’s the greatest orator in the world. You get him away from the prompter, I’m serious, and he’s lost. He’s a gaffe machine. He and Biden are in the same class, and it doesn’t take long to call the roll.

“There’s a mythology that has been created about Obama that unnecessarily makes people afraid, and Trump is illustrating the way to do this, and Paul Ryan’s budget, just go right after him. You just go right after him, instead of pussyfooting around, worrying about what the independents are gonna say or worried about what the people that pay attention to politics two days a year are gonna say, just go after it. Last night while appearing with the Reverend Sharpton in New York, Obama said that he stood by his record the past two years, said he is proud of what he’s accomplished. Well, what is that? What has he accomplished? That’s not an achievement. That is an albatross. Obamacare? What has he accomplished as president, except ruining the economy? Is that what he’s proud of? The scary thing is it very well might be.”

***
“‘I appreciate that the Donald wants to spend his resources in getting to the bottom of something that so interests him and many Americans. You know, more power to him,’ Palin said Saturday on Fox News. ‘He’s not just throwing stones from the sidelines, he’s digging in, he’s paying for researchers.’…

“‘Well, you know, I think that he was born in Hawaii because there was a birth announcement put in the newspaper,’ Palin said. ‘But obviously if there’s something there that the president doesn’t want people to see on that birth certificate that he’s going to great lengths to make sure it isn’t shown. And that’s kind of perplexing for a lot of people.’”

Why was it horrible for the Republicans to shut down the government over abortion but it was okay for Democrats to shut down the government over abortion? That’s a rhetorical question, double standards are old news but still…….

Enough with this birther crap. Read the one article. It explains why his BC hasn’t been made public deal with it.

Heck, now eveyrone here is pulling the crap they did on Rove on Rubia. First it was “Yay, Rubio!!! Rubio 2012.” Then he doesnt fall for the birther crap. All of a sudden it’s “Booh!! Rubio is a RINO! Rubio is a traitor!!!”

The whole birther thing is just people being whiney cry babies that Obama won, just like how in 2000 liberals were being whiney crabbies because Bush won.

Not quite. There were many of us who were screaming about this LOOOOONG before Obama was elected. In fact, some have been trying to get at the truth since 2007. It’s just that some of us still believe we live in a country of laws not a country of men, and that goes for the demi-god, mock-Messiah as well. Also, calling us names and saying things like “deal with it” don’t really work.

Finally, just because one supports a candidate, there comes a time when that candidate ceases being a candidate and begins to have to actually make real decisions. Are you suggesting that because we supported a candidate, once he gets elected we forfeit our right to examine his actual actions in office? How very Obama-supporter of you.

I’ll second that. We are being taken to the woodshed by someone whom we don’t know a thing about. A republic is a two way street and we’re standing in the middle of it with no protection other than our voices. He gets to drive the car we pay for and then tells us how to pay for it without having to divulge any information about how he is supposedly qualified for the office. Too many holes, far far too many holes, IMO.

I really don’t doubt that he is legally eligible for the office, but I am annoyed that his other disqualifying attributes were completely ignored. And it’s because he is black. Yes, I said it. Same reason crooks like Jackson & Sharpton not only get a pass but are idolized.

Nice try. First off, I’m not an Obama supporter. Second, it’d be one thing if Rubio was doing many, many different things that caused his supporters to bash him. It’s another when it’s only one thing (and that thing being that he’s not a birther) that cause them from going from “We love him” to “he’s a traitor!!!!”.

cmsinaz on April 11, 2011 at 8:07 AM

For me, the BC question is just shorthand for the wide array of issues about his background.

It is estimated that Obama’s legal team has now spent well over $1.4 million dollars blocking access to documents every American should have access to. The question is why would he spend so much money to do this?

The president who campaigned for a more “open government” and “full disclosure” will not unseal his medical records, his school records, his birth records or his passport records. He will not release his Harvard records, his Columbia College records, or his Occidental College records—he will not even release his Columbia College thesis. All his legislative records from the Illinois State Senate are missing and he claims his scheduling records during those State Senate years are lost as well. In addition, no one can find his school records for the elite K-12 college prep school, Punahou School, he attended in Hawaii. The Mystery of Barack Obama Continues

No doubt Trump, by now, sees the broader implications too.

There was probably some fraud in the info he provided to get into colleges such as he was a foreign student. Trump isn’t going to run, it would be too big a pay cut. Kissmygrits on April 11, 2011 at 8:21 AM

It s called character and contrary to the bold-faced lie told by the Clintonesqe media, character matters!

It is not an accident that this is a condition that we brought upon ourselves. We, the GOP, the fiscal conservative masses, all sat silent in the face of this assault upon the dignity of all humans. We wonder why they chose deception? Because we gave them permission by not attacking every immoral act they do – only getting aroused primarily about our money.
The right viciously attacks the right as “wearing their religion on their sleeves” as if the immorality they would rather ignore has nothing to do with the same injustice of the left’s stealing people’s money(over-taxing) and property (it’s for the eco-gods) We’are told to always to fight abortion later, after we get control of the important thing – money. Even freedom seems to take a back place to the right’s green god.
Hurray for Trump. At least he has shown us how to fight. Now, if we can just remember the purpose to restore the rights and moral responsibilities given to us by “Nature’s God.” The money will follow.

Does anyone think Trump could achieve the ability to command attention without his birther mantra?. Trump is using this outrageous accusation as a platform/table, which in turn allows him the valuable time to present real issues facing this country. Think about this for a moment—would Trump have his stage or media attention AT THIS LEVEL if he were saying only that the Chinese are manipulating their currency to perfection OR Opec, (along with the Fed, imo), are purposely driving up oil prices to keep the dollar value low, while at the same time keeping inflation at bay? There are brilliant economist and business CEO’s just like Trump who know very well that markets and our currency are being manipulated, yet the media will not report it. Every time Trump gets an interview, listen to what the man says after the birther crappola is finished—he talks about what’s wrong with this nation’s ability to compete in the world markets, and blames Obama and the liberals policies directly for not giving the private sector any shot at driving this economy under free and fair market principals. Obama and his “economic advisors” are complete morons under the direct control of the Fed and the Treasury. Period. By pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into financial institutions (and this over-rated stock market), Obama is building a catastrophic balloon that will make the housing crash look like hiccup compared to what is about to come down on all of us.

Donald Trump and this birther issue are just a major distraction manipulated by this fawning media to take our eyes off the reality of an impending economic meltdown. Only fools would waste their time on either Trump or Obama’s birthplace—and now I’m one of them—damn!

‘But obviously if there’s something there that the president doesn’t want people to see on that birth certificate that he’s going to great lengths to make sure it isn’t shown.’

I really wish she would learn to speak in complete, grammatically-correct sentences.

DaveS on April 10, 2011 at 10:23 PM

Change “that” to then” and the sentence is fine. Seems most likely to be a transcription error.

I do think sometimes her speech is a bit awkward, compared to most politicians, and I think that’s a big part of why she’s had low poll numbers – she got off to a rocky start in the 2008 campaign and got hit with the “stupid” label, and once you get stuck with something like that, anything that seems to corroborate it will hurt you.

If she runs for president, the debates and other appearances will give her a good opportunity to put any concerns about her speaking to rest, so I’d wait until the primaries to make a judgement. I’m more or less doing that for everyone anyway, and they should all be working to improve any weaknesses between now and then.

Ticky tacky hang-ups @ 10:23 pm and 8:31 am.

Aside from three thats in a row without a which between, she completed the thought. And to switch the final “that” to “then” would certainly alter the thought expressed, to be expected from revisionist hacks.

Donald Trump and this birther issue are just a major distraction manipulated by this fawning media to take our eyes off the reality of an impending economic meltdown. Only fools would waste their time on either Trump or Obama’s birthplace—and now I’m one of them—damn!

Wrong, I don’t know anybody who isn’t well aware of the lousy economy despite Trump. What Trump is doing is basically the media’s job. He’s forcing the vetting of a guy who has never been vetted two years after he became President. The media refuses to do their job so Trump is doing it for him.

Of course I could care less about the birth certificate; I am much more interested in his college records that any employer has the right to ask an employee for before hiring him. We the employer can’t see our employee’s college records? And not a single member of the press cares?

And who else has the bones to bash O on the economy and let people know exactly how deadly all this regulation is for businesses?

I’m thrilled that Trump will run because he’s going to raise all the hard questions on Obama because he just doesn’t care what people think of him. He has a bigger ego than Obama even and we need someone like that in the race. The media can’t help but follow Trump and if it means finally hearing Obama’s negatives on actual Network television than I’m all for it.

The media thinks they are putting Trump on to just be outrageous but this will start to resonate with people. What do me know about our President?

Given the corruption of all politicians, and given the “smart”-ass bipartisan foolishness and anti-constitutional agenda from the majority of Republicans in Washington, it’s simply too much of a joke to attack Trump on the grounds that he hasn’t paid political dues.

No kneejerk reactions claiming that I’m for Potus Trump from the morons necessary. Here’s the disclaimer. My point is that Trump’s politics to date are an available public record; it isn’t as if he’s ever been cloistered from the public eye.

But until Trump defines his foreign policy, aside from planning to impose tariffs, until Trump clarifies otherwise, he supports McCain. His support of McCain is not past-tense alone. Trump carefully broadcast that he’s a “compassionate” guy, code for the compassionate-neoconservative aggressor for global interventionist-warfare.

Just because Trump throws the tea-party doggie a birther-bone to fetch and hands the dog a compliment for “providing a service” to America hardly transfers Trump from the big-government platform he’s on: government-growth-via-more-bureaucracy. It won’t be long before Trump alludes to being like Reagan in Oval Office executive function: delegate authority.

However, that Trump hasn’t squandered his life as a big titty baby dependent upon “serving” in public office, as politicians serve themselves, is as much a plus as a negative to consider while Trump determines whether to officially join that crowd of blood sucking politicians.

Build the platform and demand the candidate’s loyalty to that Tea Party movement. Cut the size of government, cut spending, cut taxes, demand that the US Federal Government conform to the US Constitution, and drill/refine domestically now.

Aside from “the” media being Obama’s staunchest ally, publicizing their own dirty laundry is sweet revenge for the American tax payer.

And only an Obama apologist tool would seek Trump’s demise over the enjoyment from this prize.

Howard Beale: I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’ Well, I’m not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot – I don’t want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, ‘I’m a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!’ So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’ I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell – ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!… You’ve got to say, ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: “I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”

For those of you who are snuggling up to Rubio as a potential presidential candidate, his constitutional compliance may well be as questionable as Obama’s. Marco Rubio’s parents were both citizens of Cuba. There have been questions raised as to what their status was when Rubio was born in Miami in 1971. It would actually be entertaining if he ran and the progressives challenged his constitutional compliance. Flood Gates, open please.

That last video with Trump demonstrates how well he holds his own against the media. He does not let anybody put him on the defensive, interrupt him or twist the meaning of his words. Anyone who goes up against the media in 2012 (because that is really who your fighting) has to be this aggressive.

I see it as Trump just opening another front on Obama’s credibility. This has value and fills a shameful vacuum (except for Palin, the rest of the staid GOP certainly isn’t doing this). He’s also exposing the media. They all look like derelict jokes and Obama toadies in these interviews. Trump isn’t winning the nomination. I don’t even think he wants it. If you listen to his full interviews it becomes clear he doesn’t have the attention span or patience.

Marco Rubio’s parents were both citizens of Cuba.

At one time, yes. When you find out when they became American citizens, you will be delighted. When you do, be sure to get back to us.

There have been questions raised as to what their status was when Rubio was born in Miami in 1971.

Questions have been raised? Surely, you can’t be serious. And I bet you’re concerned, too! Then go dig up some answers. You have nothing better to do, anyway.

It would actually be entertaining if he ran and the progressives challenged his constitutional compliance

You have to learn to prioritize. The question is whether Obama is eligible for the office, not Rubio, and that’s because Obama is in the job now. Duh. You progressives Leftists always try to change the subject when you get caught, don’t you?

I’m hardly a leftist and I think your interpretation of my comment is off the mark. What I meant is that if the lefties go after Rubio, they’re leaving the door wide open to come clean on their own secretive messiah. Get a grip there, pal.

It’s already been explaine that one is not allowed to even make copies of the LFBC and had that been false, someone would have already done it in Hawaii and said “See? I did it and it was perfectly legal. Now let the POTUS do it.”.

All I’ve been able to confirm is that at some point in time, Rubio’s parents were in the US in exile. If you have info as to when they actually became citizens, you are one up on virtually the rest of the world. Please pass on your knowledge.

Wasn’t Obama’s Certificate of Live birth already shown and didn’t the birthers even dismiss that?

No, it wasn’t. That’s the damn problem.

You’re so ridiculously ignorant about this subject that it’s downright laughable.

If you want to start namecalling around here and making judgments about the political ramifications of this issue, maybe you should learn about what the actual problems are to begin with.

I’ll help you get started: it doesn’t matter where Obama was born. He is not a natural born citizen.

Go look up the definition.

There is an article at this website claiming to know the name of the person who’s social security number Obama used on his Selective Service application.

If it’s true, it may eclipse the birth CertificaTION fraud currently being discussed. The Name? Jean Paul Ludwig. Died in Hawaii in 1981.

If he ever releases and it says born in Hawaii, that won’t matter. As long as his dad is Obama Sr., Obama Jr. is not natural born.

Correct. Under the British Nationality Act of 1948 (modified first in 1971) – a child born of a British citizen any where in the world was a British citizen at birth. BHO Sr was a British citizen as Kenya did not become Independent until Dec 1963.
Secondly of all – to confer citizenship in 1961, the US citizen parent had to be 19 years old, Stanley Ann was 18 when BHO was born.

alwaysfiredup on April 10, 2011 at 11:31 PM

The problem with your ‘already’ had this issue is that while yes Chester A Arthur’s father was Irish and not a citizen when CAA was born (1829) his mother was and she was 27 when CAA was born. CAA’s father became a citizen in 1843 – 37 years before CAA ran for POTUS. It’s not a horse out of the barn issue – it’s apples and oranges – with BHO Sr, never even attempting to become a US citizen. Do you not see the difference and 1829 (a mere 53 years after the US became a Nation) is a whole lot different than 1961.

It is however the DNC, the Senate, the Supreme Court but most importantly the media’s fault America is here – thus the intentional nature of this entire situation – they all chose not to even attempt to hold BHO to the same standard that every other POTUS candidate has been held – the question then becomes WHY?

And perhaps that is the single question that Donald wants answered – Why did you all let this guy get a pass?

And Seven Percent Solution –

Who wouldn’t be interested in erasing the last couple of years…
… and starting over with a clear understanding of what the Liberal Socialist Democrat agenda did do to this country?
Who’s with me…???

Count me in.
