Pulling able-bodied adults off the government teat is “the functional equivalent of bombing civilians“.

The trouble is, the people building the social safety hammock are even more busy building their own fur-lined silk hammock to retire in.

So depressingly accurate. Not even your very own Ed Morrisey agrees with this photo. Most people on this site voted that Harry Reid was the loser in the budget battle. So naive; so very naive.

For those of you A.O.s equating the bloated budget and democrapt spending to the social security safety net, you are true pieces of … I have put over a half million present value dollars into the social security system over the last 50 years. What I get back is less than half of what I would get investing the same in a 5% CD. When I die, the rest of you dollar suckers gets the money, not my heirs and assignees. My mother, father, and sister payed into the system, amoung them over a million present value dollars. For that they got about a year payout for two of them. It looks like you guys got their present value dollars too.

For you dumb s…. that don’t know what present value is, google it if you can figure out how to use the keyboard. The absolute ignorance and audacity of you people denigrating ss retirees as deadbeats slopping at the government trough absolutely p…es mo off.

The people destroying the SS system are the pols and shyster lawyers that advertize on TV to get any deadbeat disability faker into the system. There are so-called doctors that also participate in the name of helping humanity.

I know that the system was originally set up as a safety net, but over the years it officially changed to become a guaranteed retirement system that nobody could get out of. Since that time, they have put girls who can’t keep their knees together, con artists, and welfare kings and queens into the system. Guess what, they don’t pay into the sysstem and never will. I and others like me have been paying for all this. I don’t need to be insulted.

Bingo.

Even if you eliminated EVERYTHING (including Congress, POTUS, SCOUTS, wars, foreign aid, departments, agencies, etc) and just kept all the entitlement programs as they are today…we’d still be screwed.

The ONLY thing we have to cut/eliminate is entitlement programs. That’s the only way to solve the debt crisis.

No more culpable than any other who has been voting in the elections over the years – say you for example. Some of us have been voting conservative since goldwater (except I couldn’t vote then, being overseas and working for $222.14/mo for Uncle Sam). ALL of our representatives and senators are conservative in Oklahoma. Can you say the same about those from your state. Just because we are collecting a pittance of what we put in does not make us culpable. Some of us have been fighting libs since most of you were getting lunch off of mama.

Old Country Boy on April 10, 2011 at 8:01 PM

There is a silver lining to this Obama attack on America. It has taken two – three generations (FDR) or four generations (Wilson) to bring this “savior” to “rule over us”.

In 235 years, this is the most serious internal (external attacks always fail) attack.

Beat this one back and America has another 235 years (7 – 8 generations) to prepare for the next attack. Our success always generates envy by those less willing to put effort into their life.

The sweet heart of America is reward to the energetic. Not so much to lazy.

If not, sorry for ya bud – but can make us all ask ourselves how much have we done (myself included – I know there are plenty of you out there who’ve run circles around me in the conservative cause) other than bitch’n’moan to inform other voters and get the thieves out of office.

The idea that a socially viable alternative to caring for oneself is to steal from others is repulsive, evil, and completely unworkable. Using the government to accomplish the theft in no way mitigates the fundamental evil and immorality of the theft.

This has been proven time and time again. We don’t need to repeat the same old, tired, socialist experiment in the USA: we already know the outcome. Back in the days of the colonies…before our nation was born, we found that when men are forced to share all their crops with their neighbors, that nobody has incentive to work the fields, and the result is shortages and starvation; but when each man is left alone to benefit from the bounty of his own crops, there is innovation and the result is plentiful food for all.

Thus, our national goal should NEVER be “equal outcomes for all“: it should be “prosperity for all,” and the means should be the strict limitation of all levels of government. We know this works, and we should not stray from this principle!!

landlines on April 10, 2011 at 9:56 PM

bbhack — There I agree with you. You are right. What I was objecting to was that who have involuntarily gone all in to the program are now not only in danger of going bust, but are being reviled for it by people on this thread and being blamed for the program.

To those who toss out the cliche “foreign wars”, they are obviously too stupid to know that it is a given that foreign war always beats local war. If you are going to have one, have it somewhere else.

We do need to solve the problem with the budget and socialism because there aint no where else to go. However, as long as we have concepts as present value and future value, and the concept that a dollar in the budget today must not necessarily remain in the budget in the future (thus not being able to compound) the future may not be as financially as bleak as many think. Consider, when a big mac costs a million dollars, the deficit will be negligible.

The scary thing is that for those who have nothing (underwater on mortgage, car, and massive CC debt), hyperinflation means nothing. You start with nothing, you end up with nothing. But that’s another topic – inflation as policy.

The value in the US has always been about the future – future GDP, ideas yet be be thought, companies yet to be founded. There’s really no ceiling on that. The biggest crime against the US, and the future generations, is to destroy that optimism, which is the task that the current administration is in the middle of.

Throw in some generational warfare as well as class warfare, and you might as well move to Costa Rica.

steveegg on April 11, 2011 at 12:00 AM

That cartoon is so very far from accurate. Does anyone think that the GOP actually cut the size of the budget? No, they diminished by a small margin the amount of annual increase of some programs, threatened to reduce some others. Based on that image, what the elephant really did was file a toenail. Slightly. And the donks still called them monsters for doing no more than that.

The Tea Party has hoped that there were some who would begin acting true to the constitutional founding of this great nation. It is soon going to be time for the real modern day version to take place.

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, there lived a President who proposed that working people be allowed to invest part of their payroll taxes in private accounts that may have a rate of return greater than that received by the Government, perhaps even better than a 5% CD.

But we were told by the masters of HopenChange that they would save Social Security from this plundering thief, by doing…

(Are you ready for this?)

(drum roll, please…)

(the suspense is builing…)

(we can’t stand it any longer!)

Nothing.

And so the loyal subjects and the Old Country Boys of the Federation continue to receive less than a 5% Rate of Return on their investment in the Social Security Empire.

As Yoda would say, “Obi Dubya Bush, mis-under-estimated he was, missed he shall be, machete we will need.”
