Barbara Boxer: Republicans should be thanking us for meeting them more than halfway on spending cuts

posted at 7:06 pm on April 8, 2011 by Allahpundit

I want you to go look at this graph, then watch the clip and consider the mentality of a human being who’d fight tooth and nail — forcing a shutdown of the entire federal government if need be — to make sure Republicans didn’t cut $61 billion from the budget this year. Using the rate at which the deficit increased in February, $61 billion would eliminate slightly more than one week of new liabilities. That was the GOP’s big “ask” — and Democrats were willing to go nuclear even over that. And now she wants a thank you for it. It’s cute how Paul Ryan thinks this country is still salvageable, despite overwhelming evidence like this to the contrary, isn’t it?

This is what the Democratic “brain trust” was thinking about today. To see what some of the rank and file were up to, read this. Click the image to watch.

Hmm. Maybe there should be a contest to see which of the two houses has the most trash dumped in from of it — Mr. Boehner’s, or the White House.

This all makes a lot more sense if you operate under the assumption that the Dems are all cockroach aliens from in Men in Black and are trying to weaken Earth for the invasion.

Because it’s otherwise hard for me to imagine how a political party can be so slavishly devoted to economic ruin.

I read a book last fall, State of Rebellion, where a movement to secede from the union was started in the western states over a runaway federal government. Granted, it started in CA, which I think is a bit farfetched, but the emotion was understandable, especially now.

I don’t think we’ll last 2 more years until the next election. Gas prices alone are bringing down my family. I’m just hoping my job will last until things change, if they ever do.

Revealed! Democrats’ Playbook for Blocking Spending Cuts Needed to Boost the Economy
March 30, 2011
******************
******************

For those of you following along with the budget negotiations in Washington, here’s a handy look at the playbook Democrats are using to block spending cuts needed to end the uncertainty facing job creators:
*******************************************

STEP 1: Refuse to pass a bill that cuts spending and funds the government for the rest of this fiscal year. This step is right out of 2010 when Democrats didn’t even propose a budget (the reason we’re in this mess to begin with), leaving the government spending binge on auto-pilot. The House took a step toward fixing this nearly 40 days ago when it passed H.R. 1 – but again, to date, the Senate still hasn’t passed a bill of its own. If you think back to elementary school, both houses of Congress have to pass a bill in order for it to become a law.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So every time you see Democratic leaders on TV talking about a government shutdown (step 2) or labeling spending cuts as “extreme” (step 3), remember, Senate Democrats haven’t even passed a bill.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

STEP 2: Root for a government shutdown. Call it the “Howard Dean Rule.” The former chairman of the DNC and “a de facto head of his party’s left wing“ told National Journal that Democrats should be “quietly rooting” for a government shutdown. Well, they’re listening. Washington Democrats have been ignoring Americans who want spending cuts and cheering for a shutdown for months. Aides to Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called a shutdown “more likely than not.” And by failing to actually pass a bill to fund the government through September (step 1), Washington Democrats are the ones making their shutdown all the more likely.

STEP 3: Paint the spending cuts the American people want as “extreme.” Stanford economist John B. Taylor said the funding bill passed by the House has spending cuts that “will increase economic growth and employment,” and “encourage job-producing private sector investment.” But Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Democrats have their marching orders: to label spending cuts needed to boost our

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
economy as “extreme.” “I always use the word extreme,” said Senator Schumer. No word on whether they think a spending-driven $14 trillion debt crisis is too “extreme.” And remember, since they still haven’t passed a long-term funding bill (step 1), it’s hard to know which spending cuts Democrats don’t think are “extreme.”

The Dems keep accusing the Republicans of wanting a shut down over social issues, but the same thing could be said about them. If they really want the government to stay open, they could be the “bigger man” and cave on the PP funding. But they won’t because THEY are the ones who want the shut down over their social issues. Is the public really this stupid and inept that they do not see this obvious fallacy in the DemoRats argument?

visions on April 8, 2011 at 7:36 PM

If the Democrat Party had any integrity left they would be negotiating in good faith with Republican’s to cut spending, as per the mandate from November and tangentially confirmed in Wisconsin earlier this very week, but instead they are trying to pull the rug out from under the notion that real cuts are necessary at all, even while playing lip-service to their need, (on an infinitesimal level).

If Boehner makes a deal conceding that $61 billion is too much to cut in one (partial) year, and that only a portion of that is the “responsible” path, Paul Ryan’s plan is going absolutely nowhere fast.

House Passes YouCut Proposal to Save Taxpayers Millions in Wasteful Government Spending
April 05, 2011
********************
********************

Allen West
———-

Yesterday, the new House majority continued fulfilling its Pledge to America to hold weekly votes on spending cuts, passing legislation (H.R. 1246) that will save taxpayers $180 million over five years by reducing wasteful Defense Department printing and reproduction costs. The bill, introduced by Rep. Allen West (R-FL), was selected as part of the YouCut program, a first-of-its-kind project that allows every American to vote on spending cuts they would like to see enacted by Congress. To learn more about Rep. West’s bill, vote on future cuts, or offer a spending cut proposal of your own, please visit the YouCut website at: http://www.majorityleader.gov/YouCut/. Here is more from Rep. West:

(Video)

As House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has made clear, “there is no limit to the amount of spending” the new House majority is willing to cut to help end the uncertainty facing small businesses so they can start hiring again. The new House majority made a Pledge to America to make the spending cuts Americans are demanding and economists say are needed to create jobs, and has voted to repeal and defund ObamaCare, begin to shutdown the TARP bailout program, and to cut $100 billion from President Obama’s FY11 budget – amongst other cuts. And there are more to come.
