Video: The Obama 2012 launch, featuring everyone but Obama

posted at 9:30 am on April 4, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama is running for President in 2012, but he may be the last person we’ll actually see on this campaign.  The Obama 2012 team released its first web ad this morning, but other than a couple of long-distance clips, Obama himself is nowhere to be seen.  Equally absent — any hint of issues or claims of accomplishments:

How much trouble does O-12 face? They couldn’t even find enough enthusiastic people to fill out a commercial. In 2008, it was all about the passion, and yet only one person even mentions this, and only to say that Obama’s too busy to work that magic again. One of the last voices we hear in the ad comes from a North Carolina man who admits that he doesn’t agree with Obama on “everything,” but that he “respects” Obama. Yes, that’s the kind of momentum one longs to see at the start of a presidential campaign.

Andrew Malcolm offers a humorous take on the ad by comparing it to a DeVry commercial, but the better analogy is to an erectile-dysfunction ad.In both cases, the product’s brand gets advertised without ever explicitly saying what exactly it does.  Instead, we get plenty of warm and soft-focus cinematography along with knowing glances and a slightly self-conscious cast.  And in both cases, prolonged effect is potentially dangerous and needs intervention from people who know better.

I especially like the black woman that says..after all Obama has a job, we can’t expect him to take some time off to get us all energized!

That was a highlight. The woman pressed the national African American manner of speech button pretty hard too. Dialect is going to be a huge issue in the coming campaign

As President Obama will officially kick off his bid to get re-elected in 2012 we need to consider how much more “transformation” another four years of an Obama Administration will bring to America?

http://www.bluecollarphilosophy.com/2011/04/obama-to-kick-off-his-re-election-campaign-today-god-help-us.html

* Expect a non-Socialist Socialist agenda to be advanced.

* Expect the solutions to our problems to be more bureaucracies.

* Expect Marxist propositions to be frequently employed while being couched in terms of justice, fairness, equality in order to redistribute what you have to others.

* Expect unions to play an ever increasing role in forcing us to acquiesce to the Totalitarian agenda of the Democrats.

* Expect more praise of Communist China and how America should seek to model the Communist country.

* Expect a Liberal media, that is philosophically in line with President Obama’s vision of the world, to obediently and dutifully help advance Obama’s policies while attacking his political opponents.

* Expect Obama’s war against the middle class to continue.

* Expect Obama to continue to push a pro-abortion agenda that will increase abortions in this country despite concerns about lowing the numbers.

* Expect the gay rights agenda to be further pushed on the America people, even to the point to where there are consequences for resisting it.

* Expect Obama, who professes to be a “Christian”, to peruse policies that will lead to the persecution of Christians in America.

God help us if he wins.

Heh. And the first guy to speak is named “ED”, too.

New Obama slogan contest at Weaselzippers; my current favorite, -”I Have Not Yet Begun to Redistribute Your Wealth”.

Will obambi use the “n” word when speaking to black audiences?

VegasRick on April 4, 2011 at 12:35 PM

Dutch barns, grain silos, flags in the yard…

Yep, that’s Obama country

EnglishMike on April 4, 2011 at 9:33 AM

Hey, give the guy a break. Juxtaposing images of inner-city crackhouses and Georgetown cocktail parties with a bunch of pinkies in the air just doesn’t have the same aesthetic.

He will not have Bush to blame anymore.

My, you’re an optimistic one.

Is demagoguery illegal yet?

Speakup on April 4, 2011 at 12:41 PM

They must really believe that the bulk of American voters are dumber than dirt…

And to a large extent, unfortunately, they are correct.

Time to capitalize on that list of what Obama promised, what he has not accomplished, and the lies in between. Otherwise, we will hear once again, “I inherited….” or “the Bush Administration left us a massive…”

Any Conservative who does not register, and vote, and get others to do the same will have no one to blame but themselves should, heaven forbid, this Obamanation somehow get re-elected.

Time to stop eating our own young, and force the Left to eat their young….this is a battle for survival.

coldwarrior on April 4, 2011 at 12:42 PM

You and the pimple faced little boy from the ad should run off together and get a room. Then you two could watch obambi speeches all day and talk about how great he is.

VegasRick on April 4, 2011 at 10:40 AM

Has anyone ever seen the pimple-faced boy and sesqua-what’shisname in the same room? No?

Leftie pretzel logic

1. Hillary is for Libya intervention
2. Such goes sour
3. Hillary runs against Obama

If Libya turns into a full blown disaster…resulting in billions of dollars wasted, boots on the ground and abysmal public opinion numbers, my money is on Hillary resigning her post as secretary of State and jumping in the 2012 primary.

She can even rerun the “3 AM Phone Call” ad…with the tagline ‘See, I told you so.’

Schadenfreude on April 4, 2011 at 1:14 PM

O-2012 should run this as their start off ad.

This is a video geared towards Obama’s foot soldiers from the 2008 campaign.

I was expecting to see an ad appealing to everyone and this one doesn’t.

Obama 2012: If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 years seek medical attention immediately.

They really should team up with Double Rainbow Man for these ads.

Sharke on April 4, 2011 at 9:45 AM

I would vote for him.
I bet he’d get a hell of a lot more done.

Badger40 on April 4, 2011 at 2:25 PM

I think its an ad meant for OFA, to get their core back to work. Its not a real campaign ad.

El_Terrible on April 4, 2011 at 2:26 PM

we “don’t necessarily agree with him but we like him”

Gird your loins for 18 months of Obama on Oprah, Ellen, Letterman, Leno, The View, 60 Minutes, ESPN, Judge Judy, Dancing with Stars, Biggest Losers,

Well, you get the idea.

El_Terrible on April 4, 2011 at 2:26 PM

I guess then, I don’t understand.
Bcs that’s what it seems to be marketed as.
To get him elected again.
Bcs it ends with 2012 on the screen.
Guess I’m just not sure what else that is supposed to allude to.

Badger40 on April 4, 2011 at 2:40 PM

This is a video geared towards Obama’s foot soldiers from the 2008 campaign.

This. It’s not an ad to try to get votes. It’s a re-rallying cry to gather together all the ObamaZombies to start with their phone calls and their door-to-door visits and their tables set up on campuses and their Facebook groups and their rounding up of homeless people to vote their way and their….you get the picture. He’s trying to find people to work for his campaign.

Polynath on April 4, 2011 at 3:06 PM

One of the last voices we hear in the ad comes from a North Carolina man who admits that he doesn’t agree with Obama on “everything,” but that he “respects” Obama.

I guess “respect” is the new way to say that you’re not a racist, right?

ted c on April 4, 2011 at 9:54 AM

Naw, he is not racist, he is socialist and Obama is the only shot they have at ending capitialism and replacing it with their socialism and eventually social equality (the new term for communisum). He has to respect Obama and hope he knows what he is doing, even if he does not agree with how Obama is getting the nation to where he thinks it should be.

Franklyn on April 4, 2011 at 4:04 PM

Yeah right.

…Obama’s too busy to work that magic again.

Yeah, and if you don’t believe this, you try installing mobile teleprompters on all those golf courses!

RJL on April 4, 2011 at 4:22 PM

The only thing missing from that ad was someone looking into the camera and shouting, “Obama!! My life for you!!!”

coldwarrior on April 4, 2011 at 4:29 PM

“Politics is how we govern ourselves.” Then why does he seem to think we need more government to tell us what to do?

“It needs to reflect the changes that have taken place in the past two years.” Yeah, we need to get rid of this joker and repeal Obamacare.

flataffect on April 4, 2011 at 4:39 PM

Plus there is no stock footage of him “doing his job” because the only job he has been doing is playing golf, picking b-ball brackets and running the price of gas up!

Should have just said…
-
“Remember how good that Cool-Aid was in 2008? (Obama, Obama, Obama… chant starts softly in the background).
-
Well he got something even better this time… (Obama, Obama, Obama… a little louder).
-
Because Barry has a plan… (OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA… kickin now).
-
He’s pulling out all the stops… (OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA! screaming at mega-vol…)
-
No Hope, No Change… We Burning the Whole Damn Country Down this Time. (the chant explodes into screams and cheers with ‘where my Obama money’ ‘pay my rent Obama’ ‘Heal me Barry’… layered ontop)
-
It’s the Zillion Dollar Spendathon Re-election Tour… “Can’t Stop Now We’re Almost Broke!”
-
Paid for by Zombies for Obarry… Anonymous Union Treasure

Bummah is the Edsel of politics and these folks look as about as fired up as the viewers of the last great YUGO commercial.
Rather than WTF the new slogan ought to be No Hope for The Dope.

Broken heart and all, you’ll just crawl right back to him. Very sad.
